Would also love to know if anyone has switched from one clinic (UBC or PCRM) to Genesis and what do they like or dislike about Genesis.
Thanks in advance!

I've done two IVF cycles at Genesis; one in 2004 and one last November. I will be starting synarel this Saturday for my first FET. When I did my first IVF I had only UBC and Genesis to choose from and my Dr. recommended Genesis. When it came time to do our second IVF a new clinic had opened, PCRM, so I went and checked them out before moving ahead again at Genesis. I chose Genesis again because I have a history and relationship with my Dr. there and I just felt in my gut more comfortable there.
Genesis has made a lot of great changes, especially over the last year or so. They have had staff changes in there lab which I think have made a huge improvement and also added some great new Dr.'s and nurses.
As far as wait times go, it was pretty busy when I was doing my IVF last november. They do b/w in the mornings and I recommend to everyone to get there early. If they say be there at 7:45, I would get there no later than that. The longest I ever waited was about 25 minutes - it was on a sunday and I think there were at lease 20 women getting b/w and some also getting u/s. Otherwise my average waits were about 5 - 10 minutes. For b/w only I was out of there shortly after 8 am and my work is only 15 minutes from there, so it didn't interfere at all.
My only "complaint" about Genesis is certain areas of the clinic are looking a bit tired and dated. If you've seen PCRM, it is new and a very "slick" nice new design. It's just aesthetics though...
I recommend you take the time off between egg retrieval and transfer and a couple of days after transfer too. I think I missed 6 days of work the way my schedule was.
Also, I'm not sure if you know that Dr. Hitkari from Genesis is participating in a information session with some other alternative therapy practitioners on April 1st. You can get more information at http://acubalance.ca...-help-fertility .
Please feel free to ask me anything - I'll do my best to answer.
Take care,
Shelley

Thanks for the thorough response. I really appreciate it.
I had a few other questions...hope you don't mind.
What time in the morning to they do b/w? I am only about 15 minutes to work from the clinic as well and have to be at work at 8:30. I want to keep things as confidential at work as possible. How many people do they have doing the b/w and ultrasounds?
I only saw parts of the clinic on my initial visit...do they do a more thorough "tour" prior to starting treatment? The areas I saw were not bad. I had an ultrasound, so is that the same waiting room for b/w? - 5th floor. There were a few white boards that had times on them - do people put down their names on them as they arrive?

I am contemplating trying an IVF cycle at Genesis. I was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me what the wait times are like. Specifically wait time related to when your actually going through your treatment (ie blood tests in the morning, ultrasounds, etc). I am debating on taking time off work during the treatment if it is going to interfere with the day too much so that is why I am interested in knowing.
Would also love to know if anyone has switched from one clinic (UBC or PCRM) to Genesis and what do they like or dislike about Genesis.

Hi there,
I replied but it went into computer lalaland so hope I'm not repeating info here! I did not have to wait long for my midweek bloodwork/US, but Saturday, there was a wait as they currently only use one lab for this.
Genesis and PCRM were both recommended to me by my OBGYN. I chose Genesis because we had already done IUI's there and because it has been around a bit longer. My Genesis doctor has been exceptionally helpful, and the nurses were also good at returning calls and providing support. The lab doctor and staff were also very good at communicating.
Genesis is moving... it's moving a few blocks a way so you might want to check about this. I expect they will be updating their digs at this point.
My only concern re: Genesis is that I'd rather lie around after the ET for a bit... I felt a bit rushed. (Also, I like to lie around.) I'll ask next time as I can't see it'll be an issue (space permitting). One time I was a bit rushed through my ultrasound and blood work, but that is partly my fault because I was barely on time for appt and well, gee, they do have other patients!
They offered me time slots of 7:30, * and 8:30 in the AM for tests. There was no one else there when I went for the 8:30 slot but I expect this varies, depending on the number of patients needing tests. As far as I know, there was only one doc doing the test but this might vary. I didn't have to wait long at all for tests, except on the Saturday (at lab). You do write your name up on the board, so it helps to get there early (unless you're like me and the only one being tested!)
Don't know if this helps or not but best of luck to you!
I've heard PCRM is also very good... just depends which works better for you.

Just to clarify for some people, I've been going to the Genesis location in Vancouver (at Library Square). They also have a satellite office in Surrey, but I've never been there.
I believe bloodtests on weekdays start at around 7:45 am. The waiting area is the same on on the 5th floor - same as where you went for your u/s. When you come in write your first name on the board and they call in order. If you are scheduled for u/s as well you put an asterisks by your name. I don't think you should have any trouble getting to work on time - you may be a bit late if you are having u/s.
I've never had a tour, or seen the lab - but I never thought to ask. Have you had an IVF orientation?
Take care,
Shelley

After ER and ET I was not rushed at all. If anything, I was the one more eager to go. I think if there is anyone feeling rushed, just say something. From my experience with the nurses, they'll be okay with that. In fact, after ET, I was told I can sit as long as I like.
Good luck

As for Genesis moving. I actually called them and although a little evasive, they did say that they are likely moving, but only a few blocks away.
Just curious, did anyone move from UBC to Genesis? If so, when did you make the change?

I had a tour when I did my orientation. I liked Genesis and thought everyone - the nurses, embryologis/lab staff, and Drs were very informative and warm. I don't really care about the aesthetics - it was clean and close to my house - that's all that mattered. And their success rates are almost as good as they get in Canada.

Thanks for responding!
Congrats on your BFP - not long now!
It's funny you should mention the elevator thing. I noticed the sign on the door that had the hours of the elevator on them and I figured you'd just have to hike up the stairs - is that even an option if you get there earlier that 7:45?
THanks again

Lots of great info here on the clinic. I was surprised about the moving thing, but I understand that it will be in the Fall at the earliest and won't be far from their current location.
Yeah, I expect when they are closer to move date they'll be more firm in the info provided and have a notice on their web site.
