hi all,

Can anyone tell me which clinic in Toronto will (happily) do immune disorder testing? We have unexplained infertility and I would like to be tested for sperm antibodies.

Thanks!

hi trw
i am scheduled to see dr. laskin at lifequest in early april. he specializes in reproductive immunology and does a lot of work with recurrent miscarriage patients. the workup after recurrent miscarriage involves blood testing for various antibodies e.g. antiphospholipid, antinuclear, antiovarian, etc. these antibodies can cause problems with pregnancy... i don't think he's the only one who tests for these antibodies, though. have you asked your re at tcart about it?
best wishes,

I was wondering if immune disorder testing was covered by OHIP? Or is it out of pocket? If it is out of pocket, any idea how much it costs?

Thanks

My RE ordered the bloodwork - I had one miscarriage at 5 weeks and one at 8 weeks. I'm not sure what all was tested - I keep meaning to ask. I know the clotting factors were tested and were negative, so no issues there. No treatments needed. I'm at TCART.

Thanks all! I didn't know about those other tests after miscarriage.

I suspect I've had a few chemical pregnancies and miscarried at AF time based on my symptoms but I haven't been able to get a postive test with the sticks. I'm seeing Dr. Hannam on April 10 so i will ask if he can do ALL of the immunology testing and the clotting. i would like to have all of that covered before beginning any procedures.

Sorry to hear about your losses LoisLane.

Hello!

May I ask you where is the clinik located? Is that in Toronto, because I'm from Montreal and I also look for the immunology tests but I don't know where it is. Thank in advance for your answer.

Dori, I'm currently with Dr L. He didn't feel I needed immunological testing although I requested it. I've had 8 BFNs now so figure there HAS to be something else. We even had genetic testing on the last cycle & managed to get 2 perfect blasts to transfer.

Did Dr L suggest the immune work up or did you have to ask for it? If you don't mind my asking, did they find anything? I'm considering going to the US at this point since I'm so frustrated with the CAD system.

We just met w/ Dr Virro at Markham Fertility Centre ... He also specializes in immune issues and gets patients tested through the Alan Beer Centre in the US. We were told it was $3000 for testing ... I think we are going to do it.

May be worth asking for a referral to him ...? Or to get your current RE to order the testing for you.

Hi Hollie! Just had our blood work done ordered through a clinic in the US this morning. Now praying that our samples make it cross-border to the lab without any holdup. Our cost was quite a bit less at just under $1,000 USD. We are only being tested for aloimmune responses since there's nothing in our family history to suggest autoimmune issues.

I hope that you get some answers!

Whether it's covered under OHIP depends on the individual blood tests. I had about 6 or 7 tests done and 3 were out of pocket (totaling $235) - will submit through insurance coverage at work though and hopefully it will be reimbursed

Hi ladies,
I'm a newbie to this group with no real knowledge of immune issues. So I'll defer to you ladies. My husband and I have been ttc for the last three years with assistance. All testing has come back great. We have just finished our first ivf and we got a bfn. We've been diagnosed unexplained. I've never had a BFP. DH has no issues. I just asked my Dr. to do some immune testing he has sent me for anti cardiolipin, factor V Leiden mutation, protein S, protein C, A.N.A, anti body screen, and lips anticoagulant. Since my Dr. Wasn't very supportive of immune testing I'm wondering if there any tests I'm missing.

TTC since 2012.  Hubby and I are both 30 and have never conceived

DH has great Swimmers

Unexplained

2013, 2014 - 7 failed IUIs with Femera or with Injectables.

October 2015- IVF/ICIS 11 eggs retrieved, 10 Injected, 7 Fertilized, 2 put in BFN

November 2015- FET, 2 Day 3 put in BFN

April 2016 - Trans Vaginal Endoscopy nothing found, NK killer cell testing Normal

June 2016- FET !!!

Jade- it seems this thread is pretty old??? Not sure if anyone will chime in (I hope so). I am in a similar boat, been ttc for 2.5 or so years (stopped counting) with the 'unexplained fertility' dx given. The only difference is that my DH and I have a 4 year old. But haven't been able to get anything to stick since....

We are currently looking at a new clinic (after a failed IVF cycle) that is open to immune testing and treatment (just waiting on our results now). However, we would love to know more information on the additional immune testing done in the US labs (the one quoted above is from so long ago that I doubt it is the same now).

Do you mind if I ask what treatments you have tried to date?

ttc#2 since Mar 2013

Me-40, low AMH, subclinical low thyroid, all other tests 'normal', suspect endo (strong family history), DH 33 - low morp (1%)

Feb 2015- Femera- bfn

Mar 2015-Clomid - bfn

April 2015- Clomid- bfn

Aug/Sept 2015- 1st IVF- bfn (only 4 ER and only 2 Fertilized, transferred two 2d)
