I've been with UBC fertility clinic since last summer, all we have done was the 10 days of clomid. Dec was the only cycle I ovulated. Tried for the last clomid cycle in Jan, and no ovulation.

I had my follow up appt yesterday and we decided to move on to superovulation with IUI. I was given the sheet on it and told to call Sandi to set up my info class with her. I called today and she informed me that my doctor is in training and in the end it goes through Dr.Rowe..and he decided I need to lose 50lbs 1st. To lose the weight, call back to do the info session and get blood work done for Hep and stuff...

I am pretty bummed.

Is this normal? I mean, common couldn't they have just told me this yesterday? I am tired of always having reasons to put this off longer and I'm hating when they tell me I'm only 28 I have lots of time

I'm sorry you had this experience. I suspect that Dr Rowe did a more thurough check of your file before making that statement and also reviewed similar cases and success rates. With this he felt that your best chance is to reduce your weight. Its in no way a comment on you as a person, he's just being honest in trying to increase your chances of not just conceiving, but carrying to term and still keep the cost to you at the lowest it can be. I suspect if you really pushed it, they would continue, but the chance of success would be very, very low. To increase your chances, you might want to consider the recommendation.

I know this doesn't make you feel better. Nothing short of holding your own child will. I'm in a similar boat, but for me, I cant reverse my age to increase my chances.

Well it's been 4 months since I was at the clinic...I go back on the 30th. I am praying that a 30lb weight loss is good enough for them!

Question...

Okay, so the nurses fee to show us how to do the injections is $200
The IUI is $200
cost of meds $$$
and $400 each cycle fee with super ovulation?

am I missing anything else?
Just want to get everything in order by next week so I can just hurry and start!

Ps. Where do you get your meds from?

Congrats on the 30lbs!

As for the fees. When I did a medicated IUI it was $225 for the nurse counciling fee and $175 for the Andrology part (semen washing) and then to cost of the meds. That was it. I think they have the fees on their website. There are only two places you can get your meds from (Safeway at 25th and Oak and Safeway at City Square). Make sure you get an airmiles card so you can collect lots of airmiles.

Good luck with your appointment!

Well, my appt is tomorrow and I am nervous. I remember last summer when I met with this doctor she was quite rude. I remember my husband wasn't able to come to our 1st appt, and when I left the clinic calling him at work in tears because I felt like she judged me based on what I looked like. She told me that I was too fat to get pregnant, her exact words. I asked her if all fertility clinics like Genesis would say no based on my weight to...she said ESPECIALLY Genesis, and they wouldn't be as nice as her about it.

It's odd. I have looked at alot of fertility boards in the past year and ALOT of ladies who are over weight still get treated. I think that tomorrow I will go in there as confident as possible and tell her that I did not lose the amount of weight that she had wanted BUT I would like to try at least 1 cycle anyways. And if the case is that I can't do it there, I will have to find a clinic that will do it. I just want AT LEAST a chance...sheesh, for YEARS (8 years) I haven't even been given even a fair chance.

I weighed myself this morning and over the past 4 days I've gained 5lbs, I havent been consuming very much water...Going to drown myself in lots of water today! Hopefully I will shed 2 lbs by tomorrow.

Any suggestions how I should maybe let the clinic know that I need just a chance. Maybe theyre saying no cause I will be a negative effect on their stats?
