I recently had a funded cycle where it was a freeze all and I was recently informed that if I can't get a FET in before the new year there may not be funding for it until the spring and even then it wasn't a guarantee. Am I wrong but I thought when we got approved for a funded cycle I automatically would be approved for getting my FETs funded as well seeing as I had to be a freeze all. Any information anyone has on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

That's weird.  I thought once you had a funded cycle all FETs were covered automatically as well.  I didn't think it was treated as a whole separate funded cycle... I hope you get some answers and hope that it is covered and there is no waiting!!!

Age 40, DH 44 in Oct.

TTC on and off since 2007 before our second IVF, in 2014, brought us our beautiful son and our first FET brought us our second son in 2017.  Our family is complete!

IVF #1 - April 2014 - BFN - no frosties

IVF #2 - July 2014 - BFP - 5B-AB and 4 frosties (5B-BB, 2x4B-BB and 3B-BB)

Apr. 13, 2015 - Daniel Erik was born at 5:05 am, weight 8 lbs, 13 oz, and 22" long.  He is perfect in every way.

FET #1 - September 2016 - BFP - 5B-BB and 3 frosties (2x4B-BB and 3B-BB)

June 18, 2017 - Matthew William was born at 2:46 am, weight 8 lbs, 11 oz and 21" long.  He is perfect in every way too!

I know I had to sign a separate form for FET. I think because the clinic charges the government for individual procedures and there is only a specific amount allotted to each clinic. I think the funding runs until April of each year.

Amp77 - Yes I thought so too which was why I was so surprised. They just said I would for sure have funding if I could do my FET before the new year but AF after my retrieval is nowhere in site and there's no way I will have enough time to have my second AF (natural cycle) in time before they close for Christmas.

Murried - You know what is weird is that I have yet to sign any funding paperwork even for my stim cycle. I just signed the typical paperwork with their office like I did the first time. Does the funding paperwork look different?

I think it's just the clinics standard documents and waivers of procedures and they show that. I'm not sure, I can't remember the initial signing, I know I had to sign a separate one again for FET

Well st this point they can't guarantee there will be funding for a January FET and can't even guarantee they will have funding for me in April but did say I will get funded fets....so I don't really get that reasoning. It just would have been nice to have been told this ahead of time that there was no guarantee of a funded fet when I was ready to do them but there was no explaination of the funding protocol at all...I just thought once I was funded it was all good.

Ya, I don't know - but really they need to sort it out and keep patients informed. From what I understood, funded cycle included the retrieval, putting in a fresh if applicable and putting back each frozen embryo until you got a positive.

It has take me about 5 months to get my FET from having a freeze all. Even if I didn't choose to do another mock cycle for un-medicated transfer, it would have been 4 months later.

Murried - I completely agree..it would just be nice to have known ahead of time so that it wasn't sprung on me. They have said that I will have funded fet's but it's just a matter of when. Well I'm pretty close to 39 with 5 frosties and some other medical complications so time isn't exactly on my side. I have a feeling many clinics are just winging certain things seeing as the funding is all so new to them and they are learning as they go.

Tryingforour2nd - No kidding, we are not some science experiment! Most of us need preparation on both mind and body before doing an FET. Good luck when you do find out. I feel like they should've got it together by now to see if they have the funding to do it, how do they not know?

Murried - I agree that there is a lot of mental and physical preparation for our treatment which sometimes feels like that gets put aside and not taken into consideration. sad.png

Murried - I agree that there is a lot of mental and physical preparation for our treatment which sometimes feels like that gets put aside and not taken into consideration. sad.png

Ya, and it's to bad because our chances are much less when we have built up stress and anxiety about it.
I recommend acupuncture to help de-stress if you haven't already considered it. I recently started and found it helps.

Murried - thank you for the acupuncture suggestion. I do use it for my stims and FETs and I also have them put in an acupressure seed which helps. At present I don't want to do any acupuncture just because I feel I would like a break from being poked and prodded so much.

Tryingforour2nd - No kidding, we are not some science experiment! Most of us need preparation on both mind and body before doing an FET. Good luck when you do find out. I feel like they should've got it together by now to see if they have the funding to do it, how do they not know?

We have to remember that not everyone's cycle goes smoothly, I am doing a funded cycle and we have had four different time slots because of issues with the donor, I have been taking a funded spot since July. Plus how many cycles get cancelled and they try again, but that isn't known until the last minute. Unfortunately these treatments are so up in the air and things change at the last minute. I don't think that any clinic is purposely making it hard for patients, but there are so many uncertain factors and they are trying to squeeze as many patients in as possible.

idream - I do completely agree that I don't feel that any clinic is 'purposely' making things difficult for their patients. I know in my past employment when I worked in a government funded agency with all of the unknowns that would just get dumped in our laps and we had to try to handle it and just explain to people that it wasn't our decision for the lack of funding, cuts on programs, etc. and it's not an easy thing to be a part of or have to explain to others when you know it is life altering for people on the receiving end. :(

Thanks Idream- I know that fertility treatments are up in the air and anything can happen. What I was referring to was funding. Each clinic has been allotted a specific amount of funding. And I'm sure someone is keeping track of the amount that is being billed. So each clinic should know how many more treatments fresh and frozen they can do before their funding runs out. With most FET, there is usually a 1-2 month grace period depending on when you can expect your next cycle and your protocol before the actual procedure, giving you enough time to prepare, unlike a fresh cycle where you have to take it day by day.
I do think that Dr's in Ontario are now seeing more patients if not double, and like anywhere, increased work loads result in rushed appointments and missed diagnosis. I think this year is a huge learning curve and most clinics are still working out the kinks, but it doesn't give them the right to treat their patients like a number.

I apologize now if this is coming off as rude, that is not my intention, I just feel that our experience shouldn't be pushed aside no matter where we are in our journey, because even without 'treatment' we all have our own struggles.
