Soo I haven't been on these forums in a long time. After 3 failed transfers we tried a 4th waaay back in 2012 and welcomed twins in February of 2013. It has taken a very long time to come to this decision but DH and I finally made the call to head back to the clinic! We have our first consult on Thursday November 1 and are anxious to hear what Dr. Min has to say about our chances with our 3 remaining embryos. From our past experiences we were never really able to get answers from them about quality of embryo. I know other clinics use a grading system. Does anyone know if RFP ever discloses this? I guess I just don't want to get my hopes up too much of odds are this isn't going to work for us. Before the twins we lost 6 embryos through the prior 3 transfers so just want to be realistic. Thanks for any advice!!

You should be able to get grades from rfp if you ask- i always did when I was there. But it's not always the top grade embryos that make the beautiful babies so there still could be hope with three even if they are not top quality. In fact, it seems lately that people I know are getting preg with their lower grade embryos (i.e. After a couple failed frozen transfers using their best embryos). Best of luck to you!

Currently 41, DH 46 - severe male factor, advanced maternal age, immune issues, uterine issues with TTC#2 following c section and miscarriage

TTC #1- 3 failed fresh cycles age 35-36 (one cancelled) and one successful FET at 37 (DS:)

TTC #2 - 2 fresh cycles at 39 and 40- one miscarriage and one failed (uterine infection after)
-3 failed FETs (2 with complication of uterine fluid but went away after progesterone)
-2 cancelled FETs (one due to uterine inflammation/infection after miscarriage and one due to uterine fluid)
-2 great quality frozen embryos left - one day 3 (at 39) and 1 day 6 blast (at 40) waiting for FET - have figured out the protocol to avoid complications and just hoping for my golden egg

It's so hard to wait around for something that may never be, but harder to let go when it's all you've ever wanted"

I had to ask the lab for the grades when they called.  She had no problem telling me them.

Thanks!  I was also wondering, back when we were doing treatments in 2011 and 2012 RFP commonly froze embies at day 3.  Our 3 remaining are all day 3's.  The 2 we had success with were day 5 blasts.  Has anyone heard if they still mostly freeze day 3's or is it more common for them to try to let them get to the blast stage at day 5?  I am wondering if they will give us the option to thaw and let them try to get to day 5 before we transfer.  Hope I am making sense!!

I was also given grades for my embryos when I asked! It seems to me that their current plan is usually to aim for 5 day freezes and transfers but I think it's one of those "depends on the embryos" things. All of my embryos were frozen at day 1 because of OHSS risk (in Oct of 2015) and we thawed half and grew them out for each FET we did (Feb 2016, July 2016). For each cycle we transferred on day 5 and had a few extra embryos that reached the blast stage on day 6. They told us at the time that if we are to use any of those embryos they'd recommend using two of them because the odds of success are a bit lower with them. But their aim definitely seemed to be to get them to blastocyst stage by day 5/6 if at all possible before freezing. I don't know if that's helpful to answer your actual questions, I'm wishing you the best of luck though!

Thanks StarSapphire,

We had our appointment today and were told we have two 7 cell embies and one 10 cell.  8 cell apparently being ideal.  The plan is to thaw all 3, let them hopefully grow to blast stage and then only transfer one and refreeze the others.

Looks like my cycle will put us smack dab in the middle of Christmas/New Years so my guess is we will be bumped to the following month.

I am feeling cautiously optimistic!!

Could anyone explain how RFP embryo grading works? I seem to remember getting a grade of 6A (or maybe 5A) but I don't really know what that means...
