Maybe the internet company who reviewed the site saw all these members with ranks like "Peter's Tutor's Tutor" and just assumed it was true. B)

Wow, that's quite a survey. Interesting to see. For those not aware the polling is completely anonymous. We can't unravel the answers and identify who answered what. Thanks for participating.

NGU- I think you need to answer all of the questions in order for it to post. Like Rick said it's private, so no one knows who voted for what.

i voted.
i was just looking at the relusts. and maybe we shouldnt show how much people make a year.
because lot of people but they make 100,000 and up.
and if we ever want funding and if we ever want the gov to pitch in and pay for these treatments maybe we shouldn't be saying how much money we make.
shouldnt we be saying how much these treatments costs and how little we make?..

just a thought

Hi Yanie. It could also be argued the other way. It sure looks like you need more money than the national average to participate. The median family income in Canada is in the 65k range. There is a glaring lack of people making average income that access these treatments, by the looks of the poll. Does this mean most people are shut out because they can't afford it? This could be used as an argument for funding too.

so what your saying is..
that only the rich can afford IF treatments IVF/IVF.
and that just shows that people who make under 100,000 cant afford to do IVF/IVM. ?
so thats why the gov should pitch in on the cost.

It does show a lack of usage of this medical procedure by those who make the national average (or less) income. If that average citizen is shut out of this based on cost alone is that ok? Maybe it is. If it isn't..

In response to that Rick I have to say that dh and I were living in Nova Scotia and he was bringing home 500.00 a week and I was bringing home the same. At that time we could never have afforded IVF with rent and car payments and day to day bills. My dh gave up his job and we packed up and he brought me home to Newfoundland and then he went to ALberta to work in the oil fields so that we would be able to afford to do IVF. This past year for us has been full of sacrifices on both our parts. I spent 8 months without dh and he worked his arse off so we could have money to do the IVF. It would have been wonderful to have had some funding while we were in NS as we had our friends and were comfortable there but unfortunalty there isn't any funding so we made a lot of life changing decisions so that we would be able to try at least one more treatment.

Rick you are on late tonight lol.

Yes I certainly do intend on moving there - we are planning on leaving sometime in March to drive across from Newfoundland to AB. It hurts so bad to have to leave my house and my parents as they are elderly (I was an accident lol) but I have to be with my dh. Those 8 months he was gone were 8 of the most terrible months I have spent. It certainly drove home the fact that I was alone and especially since I had been gone from home for 6 years - all my friends had moved away and it was pretty lonesome. So sometime towards the end of MArch we will relocate to Fort McMurray - not looking forward to moving but am looking forward to getting to Foothills and start another leg of our IF journey lol :)

It's still early on Vancouver Island ;) I wasn't an accident but my mom had me at 42. She's now 88. That makes me..er..29!

Fort McMurray is rockin these days. Lots of people moving there, though I haven't been there personally. The real estate is in the stratosphere but I hear the oil sands employers cut some good deals for employees. One person I know just left for there and the company was giving them free accommodations for the first year.

March would be a good time to go. It will give you spring and summer to get to know the area before the next big chill.

lol Rick my Mom was 38 and my Dad 43 when they had me lol. I have 3 older brothers of which the youngest is 9 years older than me so I was definatly an accident lol.

As for Ft McMurray Real Estate it is unbelievable the money people have to pay for appartments - we looked into it and so far the cheapest 2 bedroom we can find is 2800 a month. My BIL just bought a house that is not fancy at all and only 3 bedrooms - the kitchen is so small you have to back out of it just about and they paid almost 600,000 for it. If someone had went there 10 years ago and bought when they houses were cheap they would make a killing now.

Another thing maybe you can help me with. I keep getting an error message when I try to access the posts in the Clinics - General section. I can't access the Canadian IVF Clinic Directory either. The error message I get is:

Access to this area is provided to members with a minimum of 10 posts.

lol I have enough posts for sure :)

Any suggestions?

Donna

Sorry, so many changes lately I didn't realize the clinic-general was locked out. I hope it works now.

Yanie thanks for the comments, but wanted to let you know the poll stats don't show unless you participate in the poll so a lurker on the site can't see what the results are. I agree with Rick that it shows only those with the means can afford IVF & if you are let's say poverty line or low income earner than most likely IVF will be out of the question.

It's a great issue, should ivf be covered for everyone? Some would say if you can't afford IVF than you can't afford a child, I don't agree with this but is this the opinion the gov't has? I think our poll results so far are very interesting however I would rather not discuss the poll results until everyone has had a chance to participate.

Rick should we give the poll a week & then I'm sure the results will make interesting topics for discussion? I can already see a trend.

To confirm, the poll results can be viewed however no one has access to who voted what.
