I had iui at hannam fertility centre and they inseminated me with unwashed sperm which looked like normal semen. Which caused me extream pain cramps and bleeding. It was horrible experience. I told them about it and they said its ok sometimes it happens.
Is it something happened to anyone else before?

I would think it was more from the procedure than the sperm itself. I have had a few HSG tests where they inject contrast into the uterus to check if the tubes are open and every time I had some cramping some times more than others.

I haven't seen washes sperm so I can't comment on that but I do know that cramping after IUI can be quite common.  I do not think that washed sperm vs. semen would mean pain vs. no pain.  If that were the case, when you have sex you would have pain and bleeding from the semen.  They probably just aggravated your cervix or something.  Wishing you good luck with your cycle!!!

Unwashed sperm have prostaglandins which can definitely cause some cramping...sorry you had a bad experience.....

I am really upset about this. If they can mess up one little task how can we trust their lab for more complex procedures. How can we be sure that they didnt mess up again

Amber - I was told that unwashed sperm are never used in IUIs for the reason you describe. I am not a doctor but from my understanding this would be a departure from the standard of care, and also an error on top of that.

I would want this addressed by the clinic if I were you. I personally think that the clinics are not as accountable for mistakes as they should be.

I agree with Ola. Unwashed sperm contains prostaglandin and should not be inserted directly into the cervix. With normal sex, only individual sperm swim through the cervix, not the gobs of mucousy seminal fluid. The pain you experienced, if indeed the semen was unwashed, would be understandable. Ouch!

What I don't understand is how your clinic 'forgot' to wash the sperm. The andologists working in the lab would have received your partner's sample, processed it to remove dead or poorly swimming sperm and the mucousy fluid around them. Then redrawn back up a sample for your nurse or doctor to use in the iui. At no point does the sample go directly to iui..and there's no scenario when this wouldn't be very obvious. You don't draw up semen into the iui catheter directly from your hubby's deposit container!!

Did your clinic actually admit to not washing the sperm? Or do you just suspect they didn't? If they actually did not, I'd walk out the door. If they cannot properly handle semen, I would not trust them to properly handle my much more fragile eggs...

Me -29 31- unexplained poor egg quality. I was told I had endometriomas.....but repeat ultrasounds at other clinics have said no sign of endometriomas. Maybe PCOS-like ovaries, but no PCOS - AMH, AFC are great. No one can explain why my eggs are so poor sad.png

DH 30 - severe teratospermia, count and motility are excellent.

May 2014 - 2.5mg femara - BFN (ovulated night before)

June 2014 - IUI with 5mg femara - BFN (ovulated night before)

August 2014 - IVF with ICSI - Antagonist protocol, 150Bravelle, 75 menopur, stimmed 8 days

- 19 follicles (all 15-22mm at trigger), 12 eggs retrieved, 7 mature,, 5 fertilized with ICSIsad.png

- only 7 mature eggs with an estrogen of 20000?! wtf?! Sigh...Freeze All

-only one BB Blast made it. Freeze "all" became "freeze one". All others arrested between day 3 and 4 sad.png

January 2015 - FET of lone embryo - c'mon little figher

- BFP!!! Beta 1 475 at 10dp5dt , Beta 2 - 1495 at 12dp5dt

OMG!! i saw the title and thought they transferred WRONG Sperm as .. in somebody else's sperm!!!!! sorry about that!! in my first iui i was in a lot of pain too and the procedure was done correctly. so you should investigate more at the reasons of your pain :) it might be normal for your body to react like this.

I'm reading this and wondering if they admitted to not washing it or if you just suspected based on appearance?

I'm 41 with endo

IVF #1: March 2016: Long protocol: Suprefact (200)/Menopur (225)

9 follicles => 4 eggs => 3 mature => 3 fertilized (ICSI) => 2 blasts (one transferred, one frozen)

BFN

IVF #2: June 2016: Microdose flare: Suprefact (40 BID)/Menopur (150)/ Gonal (300)

7-10 follicles (?) => 12 mature eggs => only 4 fertilized w/ICSI => transferred 2 @ 3days and 1 blast frozen

BFP: day 14 beta = 93, day 18 beta 557 (37h doubling time)

.... it stuck and we welcomed our boy March 2017!

back on this crazy journey again: June 6, 2018: FET #1...
