Hi everyone,

Our insurance covers a small amount for fertility treatment per year per person. It's in addition to the fertility drugs.

If we want to do IUI/IVF, how do we submit the expenses to the insurance? Will half of the costs be on my name and the rest on my husband's?

Please advice.

Thanks.

I would say the best thing to do would call your insurance company and ask what their process is, as each company and policy is different.

Agreed: call your insurer to check before you start!

In our case, I have a lifetime max for meds, but no limit within that total amount in a calendar year.  And no coverage for the IUI/IVF itself (but I was able to claim it against my taxes as a medical expense).

Good luck!

I sent an email to my insurance company regarding this.
This is what they said "Expenses will be reimbursed based on the name of the patient on the receipt".

Do you guys know how the clinics make the receipts? Do they put both names or just the name of the female partner?

I'm with the regional fertility program in Calgary.

Thanks.

Thanks kristeen033.

Insurance told me that the clinic has to explicitly write down which expense occurred for which claimant.
They wouldn't accept if both of our names are on the receipt without any details.

I'm curious to know if any portion of the IUI/IVF procedures are specific to the male partner so that the clinic can put my husband's name for that specific expense.

Thanks.

Once we start our first IUI cycle, I will ask the clinic to give separate receipts/line items for the sperm wash and the insemination itself. Hopefully they will be able to do it.
