Wow, so much has happened in the week I've been away from the board. Congratulations on all of the baby news!

My post is really overdue, sorry about that but I had a complication that made me in so much pain I haven't been able to do much...

On Jan 5th my doc said I was 2cm dialated at my OB appointment.  He did a stretch and sweep and put me on the induction list because of my low plataletes.  Well, I didn't need to be induced as I went into labor at 11:45 pm that night on my own.  The contractions came fast and close together so I went to the hospital and our daughter was born the next day (on my due date Jan 6th) and she is absolutely perfect!

I went with an epidural and sadly had a complication that only 1% of people get. Its called a dural tap and means the anesthisiologt accidently tapped into my spinal fluid, causing it to leak. It causes an epidural headache for 7 days that is so bad I can't even do the description justice.  You need to stay lying down at all times, because if you get up or even lift your head the fluid leaks and causes extreme pain... I was seeing spots and hearing whooshing sounds... made it so hard to do what I needed for my daughter, but luckily my husband and mom helped me a lot.

I tore in three places during the birth and lost a lot of blood. My plataelets fell another 20% after delivery, so I'm getting retested next week, to make sure they recover.

I'm now feeling much better, but baby feeds every hour so I've gotten no sleep.  I bought a pump and am hoping to get enough milk so my husband can do some feedings.

My daughter is so precious and perfect.  I am in complete awe of her.  IVF is tough and so is birth but it is all so worth it. Congratulations everyone!

So no cervical changes after 26 hours with the catheter! So we put another one in, gonna leave it in and 6 hours later start pitocin with it in place. This kid is too content!

JustRelax: "our" first baby boy! Congrats!  You guys must all be over the moon:)

Is everyone feeling ok? HOw has breastfeeding been going?

AFM, my pelvic pain is still atttrocious so I bumped my mat leave starting next week. SO this week is my last week of work. Finally. I'll try and see if I can get another doc to put me off, but it doesnt look like it.

Just back from the naturopath and she gave me some herbal meds that are supposed to help dilate my cervix so that its not a huge shock when i go into labour. we'll see.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Ckat that sounds horrible! And I'm sorry you didn't get to be as active in the first days as you'd like, it really does suck when our plans don't work the way we hoped.
Breastfeeding for me is brutal, I see the LC twice a week to monitor beau's growth because at almost 3 weeks she still hasn't gotten back to her birth weight.
I'm on the maximum dose of medication to increase my milk supply and we see the surgeon on Thursday to assess the tongue tie, hopefully that will help. It's amazing how important a proper latch is, and how for some babies feeding just doesn't come naturally.

Once all our babies arrive our group will likely disperse, some of us connect on Instagram but if you'd like to connect via FB feel free to add me (Cassandra Tisdale-Hudon)

She's here!!!! :)

I'll leave it up to you guys to tell me if you want to hear my birth story. It was honestly pretty horrible, so I don't want to put any fear into you guys who are still coming up and I can wait till after.

BUT I will tell you, little sweet Isabel Joanne was born on January 15th at 12:58am weighing 7lbs 7oz (funny that she was due on the 7th too eh?!) and 21" long :D she is doing fantastic and I just can't even deal with how cute she is!!! I've got pics on my Instagram (gotzon13) but don't think I can link to here!

How's everyone doing with recovery and breastfeeding? I'm on day 10 and I still can't sit on my hemmrhoids or stitches but that's what I get for having a 9lb 4oz baby. i see kegels in my future. haha

Cassandra- Bummer that Beau is having a hard time feeding. You're doing absolutely everything you can. That must be exhausting. Hope it picks up soon.

CKat- Congratulations! I am so sorry to hear about your dural tap. That sounds absolutely awful. You are a CHAMP for breastfeeding through all of that. Are you starting to feel better?

IVFRookie- She's here! It's hard to take your eyes off of them hey? That's awful that your birth story was a tough one. We really are tough to make it through IVF and then labour and delivery. I think they should hand us medals when we leave the fertility clinic and then the hospital.

IVf rOOKIE: YAY!!!!! omg congrats! i bet she's just perfect! I don't mind hearing your birth story as long as you want to share it. I'm so thankful for this group and feel like we are all pretty understanding of one another and i never felt judgement from anyone:)

I got my ultrasound done today to find out about weight and measurement. This is what I found out: looks like approx 8 lbs and some oz. tHe rhead is measuring 10 cm (eeeeeeek!) the tech "thinks its a girl!" and she's measuring about a week ahead. My fluid seems to be ok, but i think i have to find out from the doc. I also found out that my ultrasound dating due date (at 18 weeks) was jan 25 and today, is at jan 22. my edd from my lmp is at jan 30. I'm stuck on this stuff cos i really want to meet baby, even tho i know all this stuff means nothing.

Talking about things that dont mean much: i lost my mucus plug! WHoop whoop. i was so excited when it happened. I had to contain myself from overly excited.

A lot of my friends in my mommy group have had a hard time with breastfeeding. any tips or tricks?

Beau had her tongue tie revision done yesterday, she didnt even cry and right away I noticed her latching better. Thank goodness.

Yellowknife - yay for the mucusplug, even though it "means nothing" its still one step closer to meeting baby!

Getting excited for you Yellowknife!! I found the next couple weeks will drag on but it's going to be awesome!

Alright well, My labour was a total disaster. Water started leaking at 5:30am sat morning, called doc and went in to hospital. They got me set up on the oxytocin IV to induce because I wasn't having any contractions. Everything was going slow but fine. Isabel had had her meconium poop inside me but they said they would just be careful of it when she's actually born and get her mouth suctioned really well so she didnt aspirate on it. About 6 hours later I'm at 4cms and contractions were getting rough so the anesthesiologist came in to do the epidural. That hurts like a mother! So then I was laughing after that. No pain and just watching TV hanging out. Doc comes to do a check I'm at 6cm and she happened to break the rest of the water when she did that. And immediately, baby's heart rate drops way down. They start freaking out a bit to try and get a better read on her and end up putting a skull clip on so a heart rate monitor that is clipped to baby's skull. Then it came back up. Then we get to 7-8cms and I'm feeling contractions again really bad. I'm thinking wtf I keep upping my epidural meds but nothings helping. They come in and realize that the catheter where it's connected to a clip to go to the pump, has been disconnected. So I wasn't getting any drugs. They keep trying to reconnect it but it doesn't work. Tell me at 9cms when I'm feeling like I need to push, that they could call the anesthetic doc in but he'd have to do the entire epidural all over again. I'm like wtf?! I don't have time for that. End up having to deliver naturally pretty much. Once I'm pushing, I get a fever. Her heart rate spikes. They tell me she has to come out within the next two pushes or she's gotta use the vacuum. I couldn't get her out so that's what she did. Finally came out. Then I have severe haemorrhaging and insane bleeding afterwards. I didn't even notice because I was watching what they were doing with the baby and making sure they got all the meconium out of her lungs, but hubby said he's never seen that much blood before. Said all the nurses and doctors were so quiet and focused because they were working so hard to stop bleeding!! Ahh what a disaster!! So I had to have some antibiotics and some other drug to stop the bleeding inside. Most people just get one but I had two doses.

Then afterwards every shift change id get a new nurse who would give me contradiction advice on breastfeeding so then we couldn't get the latch right. I ended up with horrible scabbed bruised very painful nipples and ended up having to go to formula because I couldn't have her on my nipples to feed. I had a bit of a meltdown over that andnnot being able to breastfeed. Felt terrible. Still working with a lactation consultant right now but have been having to pump and then bottle feed each meal. Tried to BF again tonight after an appt with the LC today and just couldn't get it right. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if I can come back in.

Breastfeeding is HARD - I really wish that they told women this during their pregnancies. I also wish that they addressed the primal desire to nurse your baby, not being able to makes you feel like a sh*t mother even though logically you know that "fed is best" and that a bottle of formula isnt going to take away from the health of the baby or the bond that you have with it.

As for the sore nipples - skip the purple tube of lanolin cream and ask your Dr for a script of "jack newman nipple cream" also known as "all purpose nipple cream", its a compounded mix of antibiotic, antifungal and steroid cream. I went from literally bleeding down my stomach from my nipples being so raw (its literally like she shaved off the top layer of skin, even air hurt so bad) to being 75% better over night. It was a total sanity saver.

Congrats to all you who've had your babies. I delivered my baby girl on Jan 11th. Actual due date was Friday Jan 13th. So glad i didn't have to deliver on Friday the 13th 😅. Funny thing is Jan 11th is my dog's birthday as well so we have birthday buddies in the house .

My labor was relatively easy compared to other women. The first time i felt a real contraction was on the 10th. I timed it and it was 4-5 mins apart right away but not really painful yet just like bad menstrual cramp. So we head to the hospital and sure enough i got admitted right away.

After the nurse checked my dilation, turned out i was already 8cm dilated!!! I could not believe it and the nurses was in panic mode thinking the baby would come soon.
Surprisingly the contraction was not bad so we decided to forego the epidural. Then when i was 9cm dilated, the contractions suddenly felt like i was hit by a truck! So painful i cried and finally asked for epidural. Thank God they still let me have it and the anesthesiologist came within 5 mins.

After that, i slept!!! Epidural is really heaven sent! waited for 2 hours and i was fully dilated and ready but my water has not broke so the doctor had to rupture it.
An hour later, I started pushing . I was so worried i wouldn't be able to push since I can't feel anything down there but the nurse was amazing. She guided me all the way while hubby was supporting my every push lol.

Within an hour, the baby's out and what a huge relief!! Baby Haven Alexa was born at Jan 11 at 11am. Weighs 3.2kg 50cm

So in love with her. I will tell my post partum story another time:

I wish you ladies all the best with your new babies and enjoy every moment with your newborn

Cassandra is so right...Jack Newman nipple cream is the only way I survived the first week of breastfeeding. I'd fill the prescription even before labour next time.

Can you believe all of these girls?! Congratulations.

Today Finn is 2 weeks old. I'm just waiting for my haemorrhoids and stitches to get better. I had a third degree tear. Any idea when that will be or tips to be more comfortable? I find the hardest is sitting on them so much of the day to breastfeed. I'm almost tempted to stand up the whole time.

Yellowknife- Hope your pelvic pain is easing. I can't believe that a dr wouldn't give you a note for work.

Hope everyone's recovery is going well.

ITVvixen: any developments? Really hope everything is ok.

Just relax: are they able to take care of your haemorrhoid at the same time they stitch u up? I'm hoping they can do that here. Mine isn't painful, but it would be nice to get rid of it.. (urgh)

Mcmiracle: congrats!! Sounds like ur labour and delivery was pretty ideal:) that's just amazing and so great to hear

Ivfrookie: your story sounds so hard and painful, but as they always say, it's over and wasn't it all worth it? How are u feeling now?

Afm: Nothing new here. I'm also the last to deliver from my prenatal group. So just waiting... walked the indoor track today and for the last bit have been feeling weird things "down below" but can't be certain of what's going on. Lots of Braxton Hicks, but nothing major. Prenatal app tomorrow to do another membranesweep. Here's hoping I'm more dilated tomorrow. I have a feeling I'll be going in February. Either way, I'm ok with whebwen she decides to come:)

I hope everyone else is doing good:)

Hey ladies
Hope everyone's doing well. You guys weren't kidding when you said recovery is tough!! Please, if you take any advice from me, it's to take your stool softeners!!!! Omg just trust me on that!! TMI ALERT! I thought I had popped a stitch from straining and so I had to get an exam done at the doctor which I'm sure you can all understand, having anyone doing anything down there is very undesirable!! So I was fairly sore afterwards but a bit better now. Isabel is doing really well. We are getting better at breastfeeding. Still trying to figure out her cries and what she wants and when. She has a habit that always poops as soon as I start feeding her - almost like it relaxes her enough for a bowel movement of passing gas. So sometimes I can tell that she just needs to poop and is really fussy, but I can't console her until she's feeding and then goes. Ideally I could just take her off after she's done, and she'd be happy, but she doesn't want me to take her food away! Then sure enough, because she didn't really need to eat, she spits up after her meal! Sigh... I don't know what the right thing to do is! Lol

We went and got our newborn photoshoot done yesterday. Isabel wasn't very cooperative lol but I think we got some good shots!! The photographer posted a sneak peek picture and I am soooo in love. I ride horses so I really wanted to get this shot. It took about an hour to get it but it was worth it!!

Congratulations Yellowknife!!! Naya is a beautiful name. I'm so happy to hear that she's here safely. Hope your urethra feels better soon. That sounds awful.

AFM, the baby is feeding like a champ. He was 10 lbs at his last appointment and I'm sure he's 11 now. He's already in his 3 moth clothes and he's only 4 weeks old. It still really hurts to sit down as I still have stitches from my third degree tear. I had no idea it would still hurt 4 weeks later. Any tips?
