Hello - I was just wondering what some of you have tried to get pregnant? My husband and I have tried numerous procedures and were successful with IVF with our son who will now be 4 in December. We just tried another treatment at the fertility clinic - FET; frozen embryo transferred but not successful. So now we are wondering what to do next. We don't know if we wish to continue with the fertility clinic and start a fresh IVF cycle or try going back to fertility drugs like clomid, glucophage, metformin, etc. So I was just wondering what other women were doing . . . I would love a response back. Thanks so much!

Smiles,
Lisa Maria

P.S. Also, do any of you have unexplained pain during your period at all? I ended up in the hospital last night with such pain that I told the doctor natural child birth was easier than what I was feeling last night! They ended up thinking it was cysts rupturing from inside the ovary and they also seem to think that maybe my ovary has twisted itself. So if anybody can shed any light on this, it would be greatly appreciated!

HI lisa maria,
I too have PCO....and did the clomid thing - the place I was at never figured out that I also had immune disorders so make sure all of your testing is up to date (especially thyroid - if it's out of wack TTC is futile on clomid etc.) AS for me I switched Clinics and am now living in Moncton dealing with a great place who keep a very close eye on me - I am preg with a singleton after doing my first IVF too....for baby #2 we will go straight back to IVF (the first one we went to Calgary for as we were not living here in Moncton at the time). I think your question of 'What to do next' depends on your age ,sanity level and ofcourse financial resources. I'm already 38 (wasted years on Clomid for nothing really) so that's why I would opt for the big guns next time as well. There is an increased chance of getting a BFN with FET (as you probably know) and plus my age will be creeping up so it will all likleyhood we will try a FET first followed directly by Fresh IVF. This is a very personal choice I know ...but for me time is more important than money. Ideally we would love 3 children but one day at a time ..the first hurdle is having one healthy baby and becoming parents - the rest would be wonderful but I will try and keep things in perspective when they come up.
Good Luck !
Stacy

*By the way....I too had incredible pain the other night - and there is a strong possiblity that it was a ruptured cyst - pain was almost unbearable (Especially without a good dose of 'Dope' due to pregnancy) but it was all over with 12 hours later...stayed sore for 4 more (on the right side) then I was fine. I had one rupture years and years ago in University and it did feel much the same. (From what I remember that far back ! HA !) If you are still having pain get it checked out - I do not know anything about a twisted ovary but that does not sound too good !

Hi Lisa Maria,

I also have PCOS and have expierenced the sharp pain on the ovaries and ended up in emergency. Not fun at all is it. My Dr told me it was a cyst rupturing. Your in fetal position due to the pain it's so bad.

I am on my 1st IVF cycle...ET was on sat the 24th. So I am in the 2ww. It's so encouraging to read you both had positive pregancies. I have been trying for 6 years, everything we tried...clomid which I did not like. Metformin made me sick.
Anyways I feel your pain in regards to the ovaries & cysts ...it's not fun. take care ...J

i think a lot has to do with multiple factors: age, fsh, sperm quality. i have pcos, reasonable fsh (8), am 40+, but with borderline sperm quality, so we elected for IVF with ICSI. had success with FET #3. age should be considered if you're looking at doing less aggressive treatments.

Years ago, I had a big, fluid filled cyst on my ovary that contorted during my period. I was taking a shower when it happened, and the pain was so bad, I dropped to the floor and crawled out of the shower. It took several hours for the pain to recede. I eventually had to have the cyst (and ovary) surgically removed. But on the plus side, the pain never came back, even while I was waiting for surgery.

Good luck.

Kathryn.

Hi Everyone,
I also have PCOS. I have been on metfomin 1000mg, and Clomid. I did 12 rounds of clomid all the way to 150mgx10days. (not fun at all) My fertility Dr said I will never take clomid again, because it wasn't doing anything for me. Also I gained a bit more weight while being on it. We just recently have been moved onto the waiting list for IVF in Calgary. Although my dh test came back perfect, and all of mine so far, it is frustrating that we all have to go through this. I have no cysts on my ovaries, but I have to go for a HSG soon to make sure there isn't a blockage. I think just having PCOS makes it even harder to concieve. It is great to have people like you all to talk to!!!

hi there i to also have PCOS. My family doc put me on metformin 500mg 2x's a day.. So far we haven't gotten pregnant yet. But i do go see a fertility spec in Feb. My husband and i lost a baby in Oct/06 and haven't been able to get pregnant since. I was told when i was 13 that i would never have children. I have had several m/c's and it is getting very depressing as everyone around me is having babies. I'm really hoping that the fertility place that i'm going to will be able to help us out. We are willing to try IVF if it isn't to expensive.

If anyone has any ideas what we can do it would be great to hear from u.

Thanks

I'm also a PCOSer but apparently a mild care, in my situation I have polycystic ovaries and longer cycles 31-38 days, but my bloodwork otherwise is normal, no insulin resistance, etc.
Just out of curiosity, are the majority of you insulin resistant? Just wondering at what point your REs decide to use Metformin.
I am at a normal weight for my height.
Anyway, I did Clomid 5 times-big fat waste of time and made my cycles weird, the cycles were long and I would spot before my period, never did this before on my own!
Now I am going to start Bravelle injections next week with IUI.

Hi,

I am more on the severe end of PCOS. I am about 40 pounds over weight for my height. I do have insulin resistance and have been on metformin for over 3 years now. I had severe bleeding for most of my periods. They would last for weeks at at time and eventually it was considered hemorrhaging. I ended up having Complex Hyperplasia and after that was dealt with we were able to 'Try' clomid. BIG joke for us PCOS'ers!! Anyway i have done 3 IUI and 1 IVF all BFN. I am scheduled for a FET on Feb.13.

Good luck to you in your journey!!
