Im just wondering what medications people generally take for an ivf cycle. I just got my med list yesterday and I was really surprised at how little was on there. I could be totally wrong and maybe it is alot. This is my first cycle so im not sure what to expect.
This is what I was prescribed.
Marvelon 21s
Puregon 300
Ganirelix 250
Ovidrel

And that's it. Is that a normal amount?
Thanks in advance.

Hi MrsMouse - good luck with your cycle! Your medication list is very normal. Marvel on is your BCP to down regulate for your antagonist cycle. Puregon is your FSH (stimulating drug.). Ganirelex is your antagonist (the drug that stops you from ovulating) which will be introduced around the time your follicles get to 12-14mm and the Ovidrel is the drug your clinic will be triggering you with.

You might want to join a cycle buddies group for support and questions as you near your cycle date? It's a great way to meet people and share the experience together.

Best of luck!

Depending on your protocol that list seems right.

I was on gonal F and luvaris for the stims and then HCG for trigger and crione after ER until first beta.

Thank you so much for breaking that down for me cdnHockeyGal. Af is due the 15th of this month but they will be full so im guessing it will be my next cycle after that. I'm pretty excited. Have never been this close to a shot at ivf. I will be sure to find some cycle buddies once I have my date. Thanks again.
Oh also one more question. For puregon my understanding is it comes in a pen form. Is the vial multi dose or a one shot deal? My pharmacy seemed a little confused! I guess the prescriptions are written funny and they will need to further clarify but I'm sure it all makes sense once things get going.

I've taken Puregon a number of times. :-). It can be prescribed in vials that come in 300iuis, 600iuis & 900iuis. So...it will depend on what your clinic prescribes you.

This is worth noting spending on your comfort with needles....all vials have "overfill." Anywhere from 75 - 125iuis...and it's expensive stuff. After I've injected my dose I have always taken a 1ml needle...put an 18 gauge needle tip on it...pushed a little air into the vial to change the vacuum pressure and then sucked up the leftover meds...resulting in fewer meds to purchase. Check with your clinic because I don't have perfect recall...but I think 0.36ml is 300iuis....so...if you suck up a few days leftover meds...you should be able to get an extra day or two out of it. Your clinic can give you the proper conversion. Then I put on a regular 28 or 30 gauge needle and inject.

Good luck!
