Hi ladies,

I am currently 4 weeks + 4 days pregnant with a PGS normal embryo.  Has anyone experienced a miscarriage after a PGS normal embryo implants?  If so, what was the cause?  I am mostly being paranoid, but it would be good to a get a sense of how often this might happen.  Any helpful links or studies would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

Congrats on being pregnant! While there is still a chance that something could go wrong, the chances are on your side that all will be well. Someone on a similar thread recently noted their doctor gave a 70% success rate with PGS tested embryos.  I get trying to figure out the odds, but as my surgeon once said, the stats aren't helpful at an individual level. They won't predict how things will go for you and if you're in the x% that have a good outcome, the worry will be for nothing. If you're not, the worrying won't have impacted the outcome so it's really all worry for nothing.

Try to relax and take it one step at a time. Fingers crossed for you!

Thank you, mouse!  I know I'm being paranoid, but I'm a numbers-driven person by nature.  We only had 1 normal embryo come out of our last retrieval (out of 6 total embryos), so of course I'm obsessing about how to keep this little guy safe and snug for the long haul!

Hi Jenmort!  I had a miscarriage with a CCS tested embryo.  I honestly believe that it was because of three things.

Firstly, my thyroid was never double checked to ensure it was at the lowest level it should be. It was much too high, and therefore, for my second CCS transfer, we upped my thyroid dose...checked it BEFORE the transfer, saw that it was at 0.6 (which is very good) and then had the transfer!

Secondly, the RE decided to switch up how I took the progesterone.  He thought that perhaps I didn't absorb it vaginally.  I was originally doing 3 suppositories per day.  For my second transfer he had me do PIO (progesterone in Oil).  So the new protocol for me was to do PIO shots 1 time per day.

Thirdly, the clinic changed their protocol to start progesterone 5 days prior to transfer, rather than 3 days prior to transfer.  They said that studies have shown better success rates with progesterone in your system a lot earlier.

These three things have lead to my second CCS FET transfer to be a success.  I had a 6 week, 8 week, and 10 week ultrasound.  All measured on schedule with corresponding heartbeats!  I've been released from my clinic and am now currently at 11w1d and under a midwife's care.

So, as a disclosure, I don't know for a fact, which, or if all the changes made it work, but I definitely feel that I would do the exact same protocol going forward, should I want to do it again.  I think that the Thyroid being as low as it can go is hugely advantageous, and important to ensure it's low for the entire pregnancy.  I would easily do PIO any day over 3 pills up my hoohoo pouring out of me a few hours later...ugh.  And it doesn't hurt to start progesterone a few days earlier.  So they are all win wins in my book.

I wish you the best of luck!  And congrats on your BFP.

Thank you SO much for your reply, YVRunner!  Very, very helpful.  My clinic actually tested my thyroid, as well during my beta and said that it looked "great" at 1.4.  Not sure how "great" that is, but I'm assuming they felt it was ok and safe?  I started the progesterone inserts 3 days prior to transfer, and have been continuing 2x daily -- they are telling me to continue through 10 weeks.  Hopefully that's enough of a dosage.  By looking at your signature, it looks like it wasn't until week 5 that you started to have issues with your last FET?  Did everything seem ok prior to that?  Sorry, being paranoid -- week 5 is next week for me...

My CCS miscarriage had spotting starting at around 19p6dt, or 25dpo, or around the 5 week mark.  I remember it vividly...sitting at a Cirque du Soleil show, not being able to focus on the show, and stressed about the constant spotting I was experiencing.  I didn't even make it to my 6 week ultrasound...i was in emergency due to the pain and it was confirmed there.  The intense pain was due to bits of the miscarriage sitting on my cervix.  The emerg doc removed that for me and I immediately felt better, so to speak.

My TSH was at 3.2.  So definitely too high.  Anything below 2 is great, and even lower is better!  And yes, progesterone until week 10.  I stopped my PIO a week ago.

Oh wow, that sounds intense -- so sorry you had to go through that.  I'm sure Cirque du Soleil is ruined for you forever!  It would be for me.  Thank you for sharing your experience.  I will hold my breath till next week.  My OB ultrasound isn't until week 7, and that seems like an entire lifetime away (even though it's less than 3 weeks).  Then it's the nail-biter till the 12 week "safety" mark.  Good luck to you during the rest of your pregnancy - congrats on your little miracle!

I am in the same boat with three miscarriages of which we know one was a PGS normal embryo. I have PCOS and Hashimoto's. Any insight into what finally resulted in your live birth is greatly appreciated! I need some hope.
