On October 6, I had a transfer of a single 5-day blastocyst rated 5BA.

My first beta HCG blood test was this Monday, October 19, 13 days post transfer. The level was 2,442!

I am very worried that this is far too high. This level is literally off all the charts I have seen.

I am worried it indicates a problem such as a molar pregnancy or Down's syndrome.

Also, it's very unlikely to be twins, given that only one blastocyst was transferred.

We used donor eggs and my partner's sperm to create the blastocyst.

I have a second HCG test coming up tomorrow.

I would love to hear your opinion. Thank you!

First IVF cycle with donor egg:

10/6/15: 5-day blastocyst transfer (single embryo)

10/19/15 (13dp5dt)HCG 2,442
10/21/15 (15dp5dt)HCG 4,112
10/23/15 (17dp5dt): HCG 9,096
10/25/15 (19dp5dt): Cramping, small amount of clear bright red bleeding
10/26/15 (19dp5dt): Early ultrasound; sac and yolk visible in uterus but no fetal pole
10/26/15 (20dp5dt): HCG 20,451
11/02/15 (6w4d): Ultrasound shows one baby, heartbeat 111, CRL 6.7 mm
11/16/15 (8w4d): Ultrasound shows heartbeat 165, CRL 19.53 mm

Hello and welcome to the site. Betas are so complicated. And stressful. On the one hand we are jumping out of our pants excited to be PG on the other hand the worries are only just beginning. I always said that for me I found the 2 week wait between beta and first ultrasound was much more stressful than the 2WW between transfer and beta. have you had a chance to take a look at the betabase? http://www.betabase.info/chart/basic/single

If I understand correctly, 13 days after a 5 day transfer would be 18 days post ovulation. So according to the chart you are certainly higher than average, but by no means off the charts.

I've got fingers and toes crossed that follow up tests provide the best news you could ever imagine

Thank you, nervus optimist, for your quick reply!

I did look at the betabase--thank you. But I see that they define successful pregnancy simply as detection of a heartbeat. This means Down's syndrome or another problem is still a possibility.

The more I Google and can't find anyone else with levels like this at this stage--except a few people carrying twins or triplets--the more scared I am getting.

So I really do appreciate your good wishes!! And thank you for the warm welcome smile.png

My HCG was 12,185 at 14dp5dt and I am pregnant with twins and screened negative for Down's syndrome on the Harmony prenatal test. If your donor is young, the chance of Down's syndrome is very low and molar pregnancies are very rare with IVF pregnancies.  I wouldn't worry - congratulations!

Sunshine09, that is very comforting--even though it's extremely unlikely that my pregnancy is multiple, knowing your 14dp5dt HCG with twins makes my HCG level with what I hope will be a normal singleton seem more reasonable. My donor is 26 years old. Congratulations on your twins! <3

Thank you, Kitty2011!! That gives me hope.

I went for my second test this morning and should have the results later today. Hoping it's going to be OK. I will post again with the next number.

Really appreciate the reassurances :)

My betA at 12days post transfer was about 1500....meaning that if doubling every 48 hours, the following day would have been about the same as you. I had a healthy singleton. Congrats on your pregnancy!

I just received today's HCG result (my second blood test), and it is 4,112. Given that the first number was so high, I guess this is a reasonable increase. But the numbers still seem overall really high for this early stage.

10/21 (13dp5dt): HCG 2,442

10/23 (15dp5dt): HCG 4,112

2-day change = 92 % increase

Doubling time = 2.1 days or 51.02 hours

Mine was 3500 at 13dp5dt. I was worried initially but realized that this being bad news is unlikely and now just super grateful that I had a strong result! Ultrasound next week. Figure we can always find things to stress about so should try to relax and be happy when we actually get good news! My clinic was not concerned.

My betas were also high like yours with both of my pregnancies - actually even a bit higher - and both were singletons.  The clinic gave me congratulations and told me I was "very pregnant".  It really just means that the embryo is healthy and doing well, and your body is responding well.  Of course its possible that the embryo split and you are pregnant with identical twins, but its more likely just a very healthy singleton pregnancy.

Good luck!

Thanks for asking, dallz! I did have my ultrasound today, and it's a singleton with a heartbeat of 111 and a crown-rump length of .67 cm.

They couldn't explain the super-high HCG levels. Maybe time will tell.

The ultrasound also showed an area of blood outside the sac that may have been responsible for some bleeding I had last week. They said it may bleed again but will probably be OK.

Where are you in this crazy process?

Hi all i am newbie ;-)congratulations on all your BFP how exciting this all is! I am trying to remain calm but it's in my nature to worry. I had two(I only has 2) day 3 embryos transfered 16 days ago my first beta was on day 14 and at it was 1400 this seems high for someone that has been diagnosed with DOR (decrease ovarian reserve ) . I want to be so happy right now but this number has me a bit concerned
