Today is day 10 of my cycle, and I went in for cycle monitoring today. I received a call from my clinic saying that I had "early recrugilated follicles and my estrogen levels are rising slowly".  What's a recrugilated follicle? I listened to the message five times and kept hearing the same thing. LOL. I tried to google it, but couldn't find anything. I assume she meant "recruited", but thought I'd ask.

 

If I'm right, what impact does "early recruited follicles" have on fertility? Does it mean that one follicle has become dominant and that the others are no longer growing? I tried to google it, but the material was much too technical for me.

Is it day 10 of your stims, piggypower, or are you doing an IUI cycle?

 

In my first IVF cycle, I had a problem with early recruited follicles: when I went in for my ultrasound on the first day of stims, there were two follicles at 1.1 and 1.2. We tried almost a week of stimming to see if the rest would catch up, but they didn't, and we had to convert to an IUI cycle. 
 

For my second (current) cycle, the doctor changed my suppression protocol. Instead of bcp I took estrogen, testosterone and progesterone, and this cocktail seems to have worked - cycle is going smoothly. 
 

What were your clinic's instructions? Are you going back for more monitoring tomorrow?

Hi impatience! Thanks for responding. The clinic just told me to go back on day 13.  I'm in the process of cycle monitoring with a new clinic so they just want to see what's happening with my cycle.  I'm not doing IUI or IVF this time around.

 

What are early recruited follicles?  Does that mean that there's a lead follicle and the others are not able to catch up in time for retrieval? Why's it called "recruited"? It's the first time I've heard the terminology.  In my first and second IVFs they gave me BCP (cycle 1) and estrace priming (cycle 2) to make sure the follicles all grew at the same time, but they didn't use the same terminology.  Just wanted to make sure.

So you are just monitoring a natural cycle? In that case, it is "natural" to have a single recruited / leading / dominant (all describing the same phenomenon).

 

Perhaps "early recruited" was meant to imply that the RE could already differentiate that one follicle was larger than the rest? But day 10 isn't necessarily early or abnormal.
