Hi everyone! I am not 100% new to the forums as I've lurked for awhile and visited some cycle buddy threads while we were doing IUI. I never did introduce myself! Things have changed, though, and after four years of unsuccessful trying my husband and I are going to be doing our first IVF as soon as we're cleared to do so.

This is entirely new territory for me and though I've been reading a lot, it's all pretty daunting and scary. I'm 32 with PCOS and that is the reason for our infertility. I ovulated on oral meds but Clomid thinned my lining too much and I didn't tolerate Letrozole very well. At our last RE meeting, our doctor explained that we could do an IUI with injectables but it's still pretty costly and only has a 22% chance of success. He said we'd have to proceed with preparation for an IVF anyway because 50% of the time someone with PCOS will over respond and they have to convert the cycle to IVF.

With that in mind, we decided that the cost/benefit of just doing an IVF from the outset would be a better bet. We go to the IVF info session next Thursday, and meet with our RE mid August to get this all rolling. I guess it will be awhile before the actual IVF since I'll be on BCP for a month first, etc. I'm full of all sorts of feelings - anxiousness, excitement, hope, dread. I'm so used to being disappointed at this point that I'm afraid to be hopeful. I'd love to talk to some other women who understand what this is like. If you're local to me, maybe we can support each other in person too, eventually.

Anyway, this is just to say that I will have your back if you'll have mine and you'd like to chat a bit. Non-fertility stuff; I'm a freelance artist and writer, a bit of a gaming geek (video games and board games, etc.) I love to read, mostly fiction! I just finished The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, probably the best book I've read so far this year. I have a goofy 10 year old chocolate Lab named Rufus. People ask how old he is because they think he's a puppy, but nope - he's just 10 going on 1. tongue.png

Hi!

Sorry you are going through this crazy journey of infertility and treatments.

You are definitely not alone, as many of us on here can relate to what you are going through.

I've sent you a PM with some info on connecting in Calgary if you are interested.

Thinking of you and hoping time passes quickly for you to start IVF!

Hi StarSapphire!  IVF is a total emotional roller coaster.  Hoping you'll find lots of women here that know that ups & downs so well and can relate to everything you're going through.  Best of luck on your journey!

It was long, awful & hard. We got very lucky and didn't run out of both emotional and financial resources. We saw some of the most beautiful of people in our lowest moments. Baby Girl arrived Apr 10/2018

Hi there!  Welcome to the forums.  I'm also in Calgary and have cycled with RFP.  I hope your IVF cycle turns out to be just the thing ;)

I'm also a bit of a 'gaming geek'.  Well, mostly just a few very specific video games (Portal, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, etc).  As well, crazed dog lover ;)

Welcome!
