Hi Everyone,

I am in shock as I write this. After conceiving one child naturally less than 3 years ago, it now seems I have no chance of conceiving another with my eggs at 39. Or that's how it looks.

After spending an insane amount of money on IVF I just found out that out of 13 mature eggs retrieved only ONE EGG FERTILIZED. I am shocked.. Devastated... Sickened.

Waiting to hear from the doctor. But the embryologist said some of the eggs had various signs of abnormalities. So much for getting PGS. The eggs can't even be fertilized. Has anyone else had a similar experience. Did you move to donor eggs?

I am totally numb and completely unable to wrap my head around this.

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. You'll see in my signature that my first ivf only ended up with one fertilized egg and it never divided correctly. I hope your embryo divides well. It only takes one! My second ivf was a completely different result. I know you're devastated, but try not to lose hope. After the first ivf I was planning to move on if the second ivf failed. But, it didn't! If I were you I would do at least one more round if your one fertilized embryo doesn't work out (which it very well could!). But, that's easy for me to say as I didn't have to pay for either of my ivf cycles.

Hi Kittiwakes,

Thanks for you reply. Was there any explanation given for your dramatically different outcome the second time around. Meds. etc?

ggirl - I am so sorry :(  What devastating news.  I hope that they can explain if it was an egg issue vs. sperm issue so that if this egg isn't your golden egg, you will have an idea how to improve things next time.  All that being said, it does only take one, and maybe this one will be it!  *hugs*

Not really. I believed it was the addition of the bcp though my doctor didn't say that. My first cycle at baseline I already had a leading follicle which I don't think was good. Bcp kept my ovaries a bit more quiet this time. After my first cycle which I thought was a total failure she actually upped my future chances of success to 50% from her previously estimated 20%, but I never understood why. What dose of stims were you on? The fact that you produced 11 eggs is quite good. My dose was pretty low so I think that gave her hope. She kept saying you only need one good egg. She felt that if I kept producing a lot of eggs I would end up with at least one good one. Keep hope alive for your one fertilized!

Hi Kittiwakes,

I produced 13 eggs, responded well to stims.  I was on 225 Bravelle and 150 menopur. If a miracles happens great I just can't let myself get too emotionally crushed by raising hope.

Sorry to hear this, I definitely know the feeling of 1 fertilized egg/embryo, though I'll never know the feeling of having 13 eggs retrieved since that would be impossible for me.  I definitely explore protocol options, since sometimes protocol can affect egg quality. Are you taking supplements such as CoQ10 (600/day) and Innositol, which are supposed to possibly improve egg quality? Ultimately it does only take 1, though I know that's not overly reassuring.

Me: 40 41 42 43 44 45, single, FSH 6, LH 2 (FSH not high, but exceeded 2:1 ratio), DOR (AFC 5-7, v.low AMH), all else normal/healthy.

After a difficult 6 year journey of everything going wrong, amazing baby boy born Dec 2018.  Donor sperm + DEB-USA donor eggs.  Detailed journey in 'about me'.

Hello:

Just to throw my opinion in.  If you are doing this again, I would strongly recommend vitamins for 3 months prior.  Especially Coq10.  I don't know, maybe you did this already.

but for me my amount of embryos more than doubled from my 3rd Ivf from my 2nd Ivf and I feel like it was the vitamins I was on that played a major factor in my egg quality.

I forgot to mention that I also took Ovaboost which contains coq10, myoinositol, and melatonin for my second cycle. Maybe that also helped.
