Hey ladies,

I had my D&C on Saturday (6 days ago), I had some light bleeding right after the procedure until Tuesday, it turned into brown and then on Wed. evening it started again, very light and than gushing everytime I pee....

I had a d&c before but the bleeding went away after few days and did not come back until next period. Let's say now I need my maxi pad all the time just in case...while the last D&C I was fine with pantyliner.

I know every woman is different, every pregnancy is different so Iam just trying to get a feel of how everyone else recovered from the D&C. Did you have extreme bleeding??how did it turn out for you?

I am sooo scared that they did not remove all the tissue and now my body is trying to expel it and this is why I am bleeding....

The D&C was done through the emergency at he hospital, therefore they do not follow up post surgery, I would have to go see my family doctor....that may take while...anyway....I am not willing to go to the emegency right now and wait 10 hours....I am just hoping someone might have had a same issue that they could share...

Thanks!

Dixie I am so sorry you are going through this.  I don't have any experience with a D&C but I wanted to reply to your post.  In Ontario, some hospitals will 'fast-track' you through the process if you are what they consider a 'follow-up' patient.  Follow-up meaning they have already treated you and are now only seeing you because you have some concerns.  I would think you would be considered a follow-up patient in this context.  It may mean you wait a couple of hours as opposed to most of the day!  Just a thought.  I know that waiting around and not knowing what is going on is very stressful.

I hope things get better really soon.  HUGS

Dixie, I bled for quite some time after my D&C last year.  It sounds like what are you experiencing is normal.  I can't remember how long I bled for, but I'm going to guess it was a few weeks.  It seems surprising because one would think that there would be nothing left to shed, but this is just how it goes.  I also felt somewhat unwell in that area for a month or two.

I think if you're really worried then call your clinic and talk to a nurse.  I wouldn't go to emerg for it.

I think the range of normal in this is fairly wide but if you feel something might be wrong, please get it checked out. If anything's been retained you may be at risk of infection and that's not something you need.

Fingers crossed for things to come right for you soonest!

Both my friend and sister bled intermittently over months after the births of their children and required several D&C's due to the fact that they had retained tissue that the d&c didn't get. I would go to your gp and explain what is happening. They will likely give you an ultrasound to check for anything remaining or refer you for another procedure so you don't have to wait for hours in emergency.

I'm sorry you are going through this.

Triscuit, Did you shed pieces of stuff during that period? or just blood?

Thank you all for your help, I am not saying I am overly concerned with my condition because the Doctor said it MAY take up to 2 weeks for the bleeding and cramping, so I am still in that "normal" range....it's just that this one is different than the last one, but every pregnancy every m/c every d&C may be different then the other.

I do not have any signs of infection but I am keeping an eye on it. I had much less bleeding yesterday all day I though it was gone, but it's back today arghhhhh

It's just very annoying when you want to move on from your life and there is still this cloud (aka bleeding) hanging over your head.....

Although I didn't have a d&c with my recent miscarriage (I took misoprostol to enduce the miscarriage instead) I did bleed for approximately 37 days, yea, not fun, I then got my period after no bleeding for 5 days, it was heavy and painful for 2 days then tapered off. I thought I was gonna bleed forever. Hang in there my friend I'm sorry for your loss.
Me (Kerri-Lyn) 41, DH (Steve) 37, TTC since April 2007Unexplained IF (possibly crappy eggs, AMH 10.4 = poor responder) - HSG, SHGx3, Lap, Cycle Monitoring, Recurrent loss bloods, EMB, Karyotyping, DNA Frag - all normal! 7 IUI's, 2 cancelled IVF's, 3 complete IVF's, 1 FET, 2 clinics, 1 early miscarriage, lots of debt, lots of heartache, lots of tears. We rolled the dice and got lucky on our last ditch "close the door" cycle and have a beautiful little girl. April 2014 - Had the crazy notion to try for another. Shocked with a BFP, miscarried @ 8W6D. See my "about me" page for more cycle details.

Just out of curiosity, do they do a confirmation ultrasound right before the d&c? I have a feeling that's where I'm headed.

I insisted on another ultrasound before taking any meds rokgerl. Sorry you're finding yourself in this shitty situation.

Thanks. Although I am sure nothing will come out of this, in the back of my mind there is some inkling of hope (crazy much?). I have an u/s next week where I'm sure they will tell me the same thing as they have been for a few weeks. At that point I'm sure they will suggest more intervention...

Shitty situations all around ladies. So sorry :(

Yes I was much the same. At my first u/s they said I would miscarry, a week later all of a sudden they saw a yolk sac and possibly a heartbeat, then a week later no heartbeat still. I had a really really difficult time trusting the results and went to the hospital for a second opinion on the u/s. It wasn't until that one and a blood test showed my hcg had dropped that I was satisfied with the results. Was a torturous few weeks.

I am sorry to hear that rokgerl!

I did ask the doc about confirming u/s but he assured me that the u/s that was done the previous day was very conclusive...so I let it go...

Thank you all for the responses - my bleeding has turned brown, so there was no reason for panic...luckly I did not report to the emergency for no reason at all....yay!

So...no D&C for me...but no happy ending either :S  Unfortunately, my hcg levels are still increasing (even though there is no gestational sac to be seen and no evidence of ectopic - wtf?) so while we aren't going for surgical intervention, we will do the medical/pill intervention as it is less invasive.  Dammit, I hate those pills!

I wish I could have just opted for a d&c...although they wouldn't have got anything anyway. Instead I landed in emergency surgery due to a ruptured interstitial pregnancy, which I am told is quite rare. Ugh.

Anyway, Dixie, I hope you are recovering well!
