DH and I have been TTC since June 03. March 05we met with Dr D at AART. Referral to urologist and subsequent surgery for DH in March 06. Follow up appt on Sept 14/06 with urologist taht IVF is the way to go for us. Called the clinic (AART) to schedule an appointment to look at options and start dates. How long did you have to wait for that appointment and how long did you have to wait to start a cycle? I am in the middle of a huge work project in Cape Breton and trying to manage ourt time most effectivley. Any infor you can pass on would be great.

Dimples1973: My wait time wasn't long at all. DH and i have been trying to conceive for 3 years. My family doctor referred me to a doctor at the Grace who deals with fertility in Sept 05. After a series of tests she referred me to a different doctor in March 06 and as a result that same doctor did surgery on me to remove polyps i had. Originally they thought this may be interferring with us trying to conceive. My surgery was in april 06. I had my follow-up appt. with the doctor(dr. bozayden) 7 weeks later and she suggest and receommended i go to the fertily clinic. (She also works out of the fertiliy clinic as well). So, she forwarded my file to them and they called me a week later. My DH and i had to get a series of blood work done and he had to do a semin anaylsis test as well. Once all that was done the doctor called me to go over the results on the phone and then set us up with an appt to see her to go over our best options; that appt was in July. For us, IVF & ICSI is what she suggested given our circumstances. We did our IVF and ICSI in August and i am now on my 2ww to see how we made out. For me, they were quite effecient setting up times and everything followed very smoothly. You say you are working on a progject in Cape Breton.....do you live there or here in Halifax?

I hope this helps.

LEP,
Wow that is encouraging news. I just can't wait much longer. I will be 34 in Jan and it was suggeseted by Dr Grantmyre that we do this before 35. I am in Cape Breton for the summer, as a manager at a hotel but DH and I have our home in Dartmouth. I have also looked into acupuncture to increase our odds. I have read alot of positive results from using accupuncture and IVF. How far are you into your 2ww? What are your infertility causes? Did you mind all the sniffing and needles? I jsut got a call form Stephanie to set up my appointment to discuss options in October. I will be done work by mid October so that would be great.

Lori;
I am 33 now and it was suggested to me as well to do IVF before i was 35. Living here in Metro you will find it so conveinient to be so close to the clinic once you start the process and have to go to the clinic for your bloodwork and ultrasounds every other day.(i am originally from cape breton but have been living in Metro for the last 8 years) In my case, i responded so well to the drugs that they had to monitor me very closly to make sure my estridol levels didn't get out of wack. I was in the clinic every day for blood work and an ultrasound (i only work 1 block from the clinic). I have heard that acupuncture helps but i have never looked into it. I had my transfer on sept 7 so i am 11 days past my 3 day transfer. After my egg retrival i had 10 eggs retrieved and only 7 were mature. Out of those, 5 were fertilized. We transferred 3 and froze our two embryos. Our fertility issuses are male factor. I have had many tests done to rule out me and then we moved onto my husband. Initally, he was tested for his sperm count but that was it. It wasn't until we were referred to the fertility clinic that he had a semen anaylsis test done to see the quality of the sperm. His sperm have defective heads and the mobility wasn't that great either. But, luckily for us, his count was really high. This is the reason we went with ICSI. With the sperm having defective heads it would have a hard time on it's own to fertilize the egg. ICSI is where they inject the sperm right into the egg. I didn't mind at all the superfact nasal spray. I found it hard in the beginning to remember to take it but it then became part of my daily routine. The only side effect i had from the spray was headaches. They were more frequent then not so i was quite happy to get off the spray. (mind you, i would do it again if i had to). The injections were nothing and weren't painful at all. You use a pen to inject yourself with and the needles is so fine it doesn't hurt. My husband did every injection on me and i didn't even know he was doing it; we did them in my lower stomach. On the day of the egg retrival, you have to start taking progesterone suppositories 3 times per day. So, i am on the suppositories now which aren't bad at all either. If i get a BFP then i continue to take them for the first 11 weeks of pregnancy. Annoying but well worth it!! I hope all this info helps. Good luck with your appt in October and keep me up to date with your progress.
