Hi Graceland,

I am starting yet another cycle. This one is starting day 3 letrozole for 5 days; which is a type of cancer treatment as well. I am wondering if it similar to tamoxifen.

Did you start the Viagra as well on day  or did you take later in the cycle? Estrace never worked for me regardless of taking vaginally or orally.

I have been going through this for over a year like yourself and I think my clinic is amazed that I am still doing this and haven't quit yet.

breezyboo: I'm so glad antibiotics helped to clear up your lining! Your post gave me lots of hope. Thank-you for sharing your experience.

alma: Good luck this cycle. Please keep us posted of your progress!

Ifatfirst: Argh. I'm frustrated for you. I got your PM. I thought I'd type up my protocol in this thread in hopes it could prove helpful to others. Bear in mind that it's not tried, tested and true just yet although preliminary results look promising.

Supplements that I'm taking on my own accord: 400 IU of Vitamin E twice daily, 1000 IU of Vitamin D daily

Supplements that I'm taking as part of my protocol: 1 mg of Folic Acid daily, 81 mg of Low Dose Aspirin daily

Beginning on either cycle day 3, 4 or 5:

- 4 mg of Estrace orally twice daily (for a total of 8 mg), rising to three times daily after one week (for a total of 12 mg)

- 25 mg of Viagra vaginally four times daily (for a total of 100 mg)

- 40 mg of Tamoxifen orally daily for 7 days

My lining checks on this protocol were the following:

Baseline check on CD 4: 5 mm

First check on CD 18: 7 mm

Second check on CD 25: 7.5 mm

Final check on CD 34: 9 mm

My four previous FET attempts resulted in linings between 6.4-7.0 mm. We never attempted a transfer because I've been dissuaded by the poor statistics for linings under 9 mm.

I'm hopeful that once I get the fluid cleared up (let's hope it's as easy as a course of antibiotics), we'll be able to replicate this last cycle's thickness.

I'm just finishing up my Prometrium, then waiting for my period to arrive before we're back at it again. I suspect we're looking at a possible July transfer date (a girl can dream).

Graceland - so excited for you! I really do hope this is the one for you!

To answer your q, yes this was my first time with the viagra. So I am hoping that next time might be even better? Or maybe a couple of cycles will help kick start things? I also did try supplements (Vitamin E and Omega 3) and acupuncture for previous cycles, but I decided against the acupuncture for this last cycle mostly to save money for the real thing (my benefits ran out for the year). So I am hoping that next year when the time comes I will be able to make all of the above work in my favour. One can only hope! :)

I will make sure to mention the tamoxifen and asprin combo as well to my RE and see what he thinks. Thanks for the suggestions! I am totally taking notes from this group!

Good luck! Hoping for good news from you soon!

Pom, argh I'm sorry that your lining started to recede. I feel frustrated for you. Was this the first time you tried Viagara? Have you ever tried combining it with Tamoxifen? That combination, along with supplemental estrogen and baby aspirin, was the magic combination for my lining. I know everyone's body is a little bit different but it could be worth exploring. My lining was consistently stalling at or slightly above 6 mm using all sorts of other protocols. My thoughts are with you as you wait for transfer. I'm sorry it's going to be such a delay but how wonderful that your sister will be your egg donor. She sounds like an amazing sister.

AFM, I'm still feeling VERY cautious but I tested today and it's a BFP. My first beta is tomorrow, so we'll see. I've had so many losses over the years that it's hard to be excited but I'm just hoping and praying that this little embryo hangs on for 9 months. Thanks for all the positive support in this thread. I would never had tried the protocol we did if it weren't for the suggestions made here.

Unfortunately I have bad news to share. My betas came back low and didn't double. So heartbroken. Of course my mind has gone to whether my lining is to blame. I'm so frustrated and scared to do another transfer for fear of another chemical pregnancy. I'll re-group with my RE to decide on next steps. I'm pretty sure he's going to suggest a gestational carrier but I don't even know how to wrap my mind around that option. I have four more blastocysts left and I'm just really torn on next steps.

They weren't PGS tested unfortunately. We did PGS testing on my last cycle and had predominantly normals, so to save money, we skipped it this time. So it's always possible the embryo was abnormal. It was a 5AA hatching blast with 100% cell retention and full expansion post thaw. My RE said he doesn't see embryos more perfect than that one. I know that perfect embryos can be abnormal but gah, I don't know. It's hard not to pin this on my lining. But we'll never really know.

Breezy, no I haven't done the ERA test. I guess it's an obvious next step? The strange thing is that I did carry a pregnancy until 9 weeks, which ended due to a genetic condition. This was back in late 2013. So I know my body CAN do this, but it just hasn't worked since then. So I don't know if there's just some bad luck at play or whether there's something wrong with me.

Graceland, I am so sorry. I have been following your story as it is so similar to mine.

Let us know what the RE says.

As you, surrogate might be my next step as well and I have no idea even where to begin.

My last cycle was letrozole and it was a complete failure. Next he wants to try Viagra and after that some type of hormone.

You are not alone on your journey.

I have never heard of the ERA test; maybe I should suggest it as well.

Hey ladies,

I am so sorry to hear about your situation Graceland.  I was cheering on for you!  I do have endo but very mild.  I had it removed during my lap a couple years ago.  And I just recently had a hysteroscopy in May and nothing was there.  But they did say once you have endo it's always there.  Even if you remove it.

I just want to update you on my progress on this cycle:

On cycle day 3-7 - 5mg letrozole

Lining check on CD 8 - 5.5mm (not ideal but still too early)

CD 8 - 2mg estrace vaginally before bedtime

CD9 - 2mg estrace vaginally before bedtime

CD 10 - 2mg estrace vaginally before bedtime

CD 11 - lining went up to 10.3mm (WHAT?!?!?!)  huge surprise to me

This is honestly the best cycle I have had since my fresh cycle.  The only thing is that it's not triple stripe but since it's the thickest lining I have had we are going for it.  Transfer is this Friday.

Hope this protocol can help out someone.

Good luck to you all and I will keep you posted.

wow, congrats soonitwillhappen.

questions for you, what is the typical length of your cycle? have you tried estrace previously? if so, how did your body respond?

I just did letrozole and at day 10, it measured 4.5mm but because I already surged, they cancelled cycle. Not sure how many times I have to remind them I ovulate earlier. I am just wondering if you did take estrace prior and it didn't work but worked after letrozole, if this would be an option

4 years and counting - my cycles are usually 25-28.  My cycles are irregular as well and I ovulate early usually between 10-13 days.  That is why my clinic checked me earlier on CD8 just make to sure I don't ovulate early.   So luckily,  for me it worked out good this cycle.  Because the lining wasn't where they want to see it on CD 8 my RE added 2mgs of estrace vaginally.  Normally, on estrace it doesn't work on me.  I have had cycles on day 13 or 14 where my lining was only 5-7mm.  So as you see letrozole really helped me out this cycle.  And I had 1 dominate follicle.

So as you see, Estrace alone didn't work for me at ALL.  After using letrozole and then adding estrace did wonders for me.  Also early monitoring helped too.

What was your protocol for letrozole?

soonitwillhappen - they just had me on letrozole from day 3-7. I find my RE only tries one thing; no combination of meds. At day 10, the lining was 4.5mm but that may have dropped as I had already surged. Typically, I can get to 7-8mm but it drops when comes time to transfer and per the contract I am under, I need to be at least 8 at time of transfer, My cycle is only 26 days and I surge usually day 9-10. Estrace did nothing for me on it's own; in fact, it decreased.

I might suggest that we try letrozole again, and add estrace vaginally. Did you do the HCG shot or the shot to stop ovulation?

RE wants to try Viagra next cycle; upon my suggestion.

4 years and counting - I would suggest your RE to monitor you earlier since you ovulate early.  Just so that they don't miss that surge.  My RE had me monitor for 2 months by BBT and using ovulation kits so it gives him an idea on when I ovulate.  And I had a mock cycle with no meds last mth and I had a lining of 6.8 on CD 10 which is good.  Estrace alone did nothing for me either.  The only time it worked was last year I got pregnant which ended up as a M/C.  Ever since that M/C I wasn't able to get my lining thickened (5-7mm).  My worst cycle I was on estrace orally and vaginally which my lining only ended up at 5.5mm on CD13.  So we cancelled the cycle.  But this cycle letrozole did the trick for me with added estrace vaginally.  I was already surging on my own so I didn't need an HCG shot.

soonitwillhappen - I think they use to HCG to boost the lining even more as I do ovulate on my own. I do get them to monitor me earlier (usually day 8) but I am going to have to be insistent every cycle as they seem to forget.

I will add this protocol to my list :)

Good luck with transfer
