Does anybody understand how the Grading Scale works at Mount Sinai for Embryo Transfers?

I know that clinics grade embryos differently around the world.

For example, I have four 8/2 (eight over two) embryos frozen.

I had a 14 over 2 (14/2) transfered, along with an 8/2 the first time around, and ended up ectopic. The nurse said the 14 over 2 (14/2) was a fast one (?). I won't see my RE for a while. Hoping someone else has an answer for me.

What is the top number? (the closest I've come to guessing...it could be a cell count)

What is the bottom number? (a grade? if so, what is the grading scale?)

Thanks,
Tasha

Hi Tash
Yes the top number is the cell count and the buttom one is the grade , the grading is 1 to 5 being 1 the best but they told me grade 2 is also top quality .
Good luck

Taz,

I'd like to have my FET this month, as scheduled. The lab is closed for 3 days this month, and they may not be able to accomodate me for an FET if I get AF past June 10th. It is due to arrive today, and for once, I can't wait for it to arrive!

Thanks for the info ladies... that is a great question. I am going for u/s tomorrow at Sinai and hopefully they will be thawing my embies tomorrow afternoon for transfer on Friday. I will be very interested in their numbers. I remember when i had my first cycle, I never even thought to ask about those numbers. I just knew that they had increased in cell count! It feels good to go in better informed.

Talin, how is the 2ww going? Hope it is going quickly for you.

Tash,
Do you know what 3 days the lab is closed? I was just wondering if it will affect my beta tests ( when I can get them) I remember when I did my first cycle a few years ago they closed for 3 weeks in July. That was tough, because we just made it through before they closed.

Take care all....

The lab is closed? This concerns me as I am starting a fresh cycle on Sunday and my transfer will be around June 22/23. I don't think they would have me start a cycle if the lab was closed. One of the nurses told me that they used to have a shut down in July every year so the staff could take their holidays but as of last year they stopped that and the are open year round - I would assume the staff take their holidays at different times. Do you know what days the lab is to be closed?
Kat & Tash - good luck on your fet!

Ladies,
I hope I was given the wrong information about the lab closing, but I was told if I don't get AF by the 10th, then I may not be able to get the FET done. The nurse told me two months ago, they were closing for 3 days. I hope that's not the case. Sorry, I don't remember the days they said it was closed, but it wasn't the u/s or the bloods, it was at the hospital.

I'll find out more when AF comes. It's already 2 days late, but that's because I'm trying to make sure it doesn't come after the 10th. My luck, it will come 5 days late (it never has before).

Don't you find that it's super quiet in the waiting rooms? I'd love to talk to all the waiting ladies. It would ease the wait to the u/s. I have to make it a point to speak up when I'm there.

Kat - Good luck with today's thaw and tomorrow's transfer. My finders are crossed for you :crsd:

Hey there,
Well, the u/s went well, the thaw, not so well. Only one of the two survived. That is ok, it only takes one and we transferred that beauty this morning!! It was a 12 cell grade 2 embryo. Everyone there was very pleased and optimistic that it will stay there!!! We left there feeling pretty good.... not over confident, but happy!! What will be will be!!! I will be very sad if this doesn't work, don't get me wrong!!!
As for the lab closing, I did ask yesterday and the nurse thought it was around the 26th... she made it sound like it was just the procedure room, not the RBU. SHe said the lab and u/s were still open for business and that she wasn't getting the day off. Hope that helps!!
As for the quiet waiting room, it is almost unbearable. I'm always sitting there thinking... "do I know you? Are you on the website?" I am a very chatty person and am always starting up conversations... it is hard there though, everyone is so quiet and reserved....Oh well, I guess some people are not as talkative as I.
Tash,
I hope AF gets here soon.... it never fails the one time you want her.... :bang:
Take care
Kat

Kat - Glad to hear that your one embryo looks spectacular. All of my embryos have been grade 2, so I'm holding up hope that one of my four frosties will survive and work.

I got AF 5 days late. I'm a little surprised. When I spoke to the clinic, they weren't concerned about the dates and the procedure room closure. That's what I had meant, when I said the lab, sorry if I confused anyone.

I started the meds today, and go to sign papers on the 20th, with the transfer perhaps within 7 days of signing.

I'm so worried this time around. I can't afford a 4th IVF in the next couple months. That would be 4 procedures in 8 months. If the procedure room closes on the 26th, I could be S.O.L.

Anybody else have any updates?
