Did anyone noticed that everytime  you take a RX in PCRM or i should say buy your meds, theres always a fee for it? Does outside pharmacy charge 10 dollars for every prescription we bring to them? I brought this up because I just reviewed my receipts and boy, all of them has! I thought twas an additional money-making way to get from patients who are not from Vancouver!..

I assume you mean the dispensing free.  That is on all prescriptions in Ontario.  I suspect it is the same elsewhere.  Some drug stores have a lower fee so you can shop around to different pharmacies.  I think Costco has a low fee so if you have a membership, you may want to check it out.

It's the dispensing fee. All pharmacies charge it, which totally sucks since I've filled prescription before where the fee was as much as the medication! Costco has the lowest at $4.95.

I did shop around but with the way the injectables are given/dosages adjusted during the cycle, it's the most convenient to use PCRM. I filled my prometrium at Costco after the first fill since it was a lot cheaper. (Costco would not bring in fertility injections when I asked). If you cycle again, you could look at some of the online pharmacies as another option?
Dx: Unicornuate uterus, one tube and some sperm morphology

Echoing the others here:  Yes, the dispensing fee is charged at all pharmacies.  It ranges from $5 - 10 dollars at most BC pharmacies.

The PCRM $10 dispensing fee while on the higher side, is not unreasonable considering that most pharmacies don't stock fertility meds in house.  Costco told me they would need to special order it, which is a hassle and a gamble since you can't really predict how much medication you would require in a cycle.  I found it a whole lot less stressful and convenient to get them in house.  Also I found that closer to the end of my injections, PCRM prescribed medications on an as need basis due to tapering- they don't really want you to get stuck with a few hundred dollars of unused meds.  Once prescribed, most pharmacies will not accept returns.

Even with tapering, I did end up with  an unused $300 Gonal-F pen at the end of my last cycle. Argh! If I decide to forgo a new fresh round, or it's not the meds required, I would probably donate it to a couple in need.

How do you donate Gonal F?  I have an extra 300 pen.

Hi Sugarcube1,

I just dropped it off with my clinic - although I'm not sure any meds that  leaves a pharmacy is ever re-administered to a different patient though.  (probably a legal and liability issue).  And if you donate it to another IVF patient and something doesn't go right for them, it may also lead to legal and liability issues.  To avoid overthinking the implications, I just gave it to my clinic smile.png
