Anyone have success with a 4 or 5 cell embryo transfer on day 3?

Hi Everyone,

 

I'm new to the group and I just went through my first IVF cycle. I am 35 and I have dimished ovarian reserve (undetectable AMH, low antral follicle count, elevated FSH). We used an aggressive protocol but even still were only able to retrieve 4 eggs. Three of them fertilized but one stopped growing on day 2. The other two made it to day 3 but were slower to develop--one 4 cell and one 5 cell (should be 6-8 cells ideally). Both were decent quality. We transferred those two today (day 3) but I know that the odds are not in my favor. I was just wondering if anyone has had success with slower developing embryos on day 3.

 

Any success stories would be much appreciated or just any advice, etc. I'm trying to stay positive but it's just so hard.

Check out my signature.  My most recent IVF resulted in a singleton pregnancy with Day 3 transfer of 3 embryos, 4 cell.  Sadly I miscarried, but a 4 cell embryo can still implant  and grow so there's hope!   


Me: 45  DH: 50    TTC for years

Me: DOR, Hypothyroid, Endometriosis, Crohn's, celiac, immune issues, rhesus disease, heart shaped uterus

DH: Vasectomy Reversal x 2 + testicular cancer

 

IVF # 1 Nov. 2011

Nov. 12, 2011 - 9 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, ended up with 2 embryos; DH had PESA

Nov. 15, 2011 - Day 3 transfer: 2 embryos (7 cell Grade 4; 8 cell Grade 4A), none for freezing

Nov. 25, 2011 - th_abfn.gificon_cry.gif switched RE and clinic

 

IVF # 2 Aug. 2013

Aug. 20 - 5 eggs retrieved, only 4 mature and ICSI'd after PESA for DH

Aug. 23 - Day 3 transfer of 3 embryos (4cellG1, 4cellG1 and 4cellG3), none for freezing

Sept. 7 - 15dp3dt th_abfp.gif Beta = 465

Oct. 11 - 9w3d missed miscarriage zjujfjf.gif8388.gif  

Oct. 16  - 2nd u/s confirmed missed m/c ----> D&C  eusa_wall.gif switched RE and clinic, DH had a 2nd vaso-vasectomy

 

IVF # 3 July 2014

July 20/14 - 5 eggs retrieved, all fertilized ICSI'd

July 25/14 -Day 5 transfer! of 4 embryos

Hi Jess,

I wanted to share my success with you. At 36 I was going through my third IVF, 3 FETs with one chemical pregnancy. They only retrieved 4 mature eggs, 3 fertilized (with ICSI) and by day 3 we only had 2 category AB, so they decided to implant.

Bottom line, I just kissed my 11 month old baby boy good night.

Hi there,

 

I have been googling this question over and over the last few weeks and I promised myself I would write a post if I had good news! I have DOR and very poor egg quality, my most recent IVF #2 I had 7 eggs, 5 mature and 4 fertilized.

 

By day 3, 2 were multinucleated and 2 were not looking good - one 5 cell embryo with good quality (4/5, my clinic uses 5 as the best) and one 4 cell embryo 3/5.

 

I was feeling so down as if you google this, these embryos are developing very slowly. My RE said I have a 30% chance of pregnancy (which I thought was probably exaggerated!)

 

BUT......today is 14 dp 3dt and I got a positive Beta 250!!

 

So it is possible to get pregnant from 5 cell and 4 cell day 3 embryos!!

 

I realize it is too early to know if things will keep sticking but I wanted to tell my story to give others hope, this thread definitely helped me during the 2ww.

 

Good luck to everyone, IVF and fertility treatments are the worst but we are made of strong stuff!

Started TTC age 29 y.o., now 32 y.o.

Dx: originally unexplained, I had FSH of 9.0, AFC of 19, normal b/w and u/s

Husband: sl dec morphology but normal Kreuger testing

Dx with DOR after 1st IVF

 

IVF #1 - at age 31 y.o., long protocol, only 2 eggs and only 1 fertilized, BFN

IVF #2 - estrogen patch protocol, 7 eggs, 5 fertilized, BFP but missed miscarriage at 8 weeks

IVF #3 - estrogen patch protocol - 5 eggs, 5 fertilized, 2 good embryos at day 3, but BFN

Jess, do you have any follow up from Feb?  I'm in my 2ww; I'm 4dp 3dt - I had 3 day-3 embryos transferred...the waiting is killer. 



Me: 39 DH: 38
TTC for 3 years
DH found out through his first marriage that he has male factor infertility
March 2014 - first appt at fertility clinic
April 2014 - all blood tests for me come back normal
May 2014 - HSG shows something unknown, however SIS is normal so good to go
June 2014 - follicles look good for my age, Doc says my fertility looks to be "above the curve" for women my age (yay!)
Beginning of July 2014 - start 1st fresh cycle IVF with stims
July 21/14 - ER: 6 eggs retrieved, 5 mature, 5 fertilized
July 24/14 - ET: only 4 embryos continued growing (3 good, 1 fair), so transferred 3 of the best 3-day embryos!!

beta Aug 4: BFP but hcg only 12....second beta was negative
Heartbroken.
FET planned for September

KittyMommy - How did your beta go on 8/4??? I actually had ET that day and is scheduled for beta on 8/14. I still have a while. I transferred 2 5 day blasts. Praying I get a bfp. smile.png

Not good....I got a BFP but hcg was only 12. Next beta was negative :(
I'm pretty heartbroken as in the beginning I truly felt this was going to work...I really trusted my gut...but towards the last couple days before the first beta my symptoms started disappearing and then I knew in my heart it didn't work out.

We've got two frosties left, so still one more chance.

Me: 39 DH: 38

So sorry to hear that. Its wonderful you have some on ice to try again though. Fx your golden egg is waiting. Unfortunately, I didn't have any left to freeze which was truly a bummer.

Hi every one I had my transfer last Monday I am on 2WW they did transfer 5 cell embryo I am so worried this is my 6th IVF cycle

I am in a similar boat. I transferred 3 on Wednesday, Feb 18th - 2-4cells and 1-9cell - I am very hopeful. I had nothing to freeze. All my eggs are in one basket. :)

  • ET 2/18/15 - Transferred 3 eggs; nothing to freeze. Pre & Post Transfer Acupuncture.
  • Beta 3/5/15 - BFN 

IVF #2 (August)

  • Standard Protocol (Suprefact, Puregon)
  • ER 8/24/15 - 15 eggs retrieved; 4 fertilized (w/ICSI)
  • ET 8/27/15 - Transferred 2 eggs on day 3; nothing to freeze. Pre & Post Transfer Acupuncture
  • Beta 9/11/15 - BFN

October - Received "Poor Egg Quality" diagnosis and were told no more IVF.  Doctor recommended for us to try Embryo Donation or Egg Bank/Donation.

 

November - Began pursuing provincial open adoption.

After two failed IUI's we are on our first IVF. Only 4 eggs retrieved on high dose meds, found out today all 4 fertilized. Praying that they we can get past the next two hurdles.

From 4 fertalized eggs, we transferred two and froze one. We got a BFP, and first two beta tests were good, 169 and 380.

Hi! I'm 3days post 3day transfer of 3 day3 embryos - one 7cell grade 2, one 6 cell grade 2, and one 5 cell grade 2. My RE said that My chances for pregnancy are not as much because my embryos were fragmented and also the best chances for pregnancy was if I had an 8cell embryo.

I'm 37 years old. This is my 3rd IVF cycle. My first cycle was a BFN, but my 2nd cycle was a BFP - a precious daughter who just turned one last month. I'm in my 2WW but I'm getting depressed based on what my doctor told me of my chances.

BTW, I'm from the Philippines.
