Looks like the last post was in October? Is anyone else currently cycling at Mt Sinai, or about to soon? We just transferred from York/Markham and we're cycling in May =) It would be nice to "meet" some other patients from there!

Hi MuffinMama. There are a few of us here. I see Dr.Shapiro as my RE and have found her to be great so far. We are just having our first ultrasound and bloodwork this morning and hopefully will get the green light to start stimming today. How are you liking the clinic so far?

Me: 38 DH: 41
History
2000 - Laparoscopy with diagnosis of bilateral tubal occlusion
2001 - IVF #1 with previous spouse at Mt.Sinai (16 ER, 9 fertilized, 3d3 transferred, BFN - 6d3 frosties, none survived thaw)
2002 - Laparotomy to attempt repair of blocked tubes (unsuccessful but didn't know that for sure until recently - long story)
Fast forward 10 years....
Dec 2012 - Married DH (DH has 2 DD from his previous relationship 14 & 21yo)
Jan-July 2013 - Stopped BCP to 'see what happens' if we TTC naturally (hoping for a miracle)
Aug 2013 - Decided to attempt IVF - GP referral to Mt.Sinai
Sept 30, 2013 - Initial clinic appointment with Dr.Shapiro
Oct 2013 - more tests and IVF class - AMH=8.2, FSH=7
Nov 1st, 2013 - Follow up appointment to discuss test results and game plan - Blood tests all look good.  Had Sonohysterogram and confirmed surgery is needed to remove or block off tube on left side. No surgery dates until 2014.
Dec. 20, 2013 - Pre-op appointment
Jan 7, 2014 - Surgery to remove left tube

IVF #1
Jan 28 - Starting Estrace Primed Antagonist Protocol IVF.
Feb 21 - CD14 - ER - got 8 eggs - 7 eggs were mature, 7 fertilized by day 3 - [email protected] cell grade 1; [email protected] cell gr 1; [email protected] cell gr 1; [email protected] cell gr 1; 1 @12 cell gr 2
Feb 26 - Day 5 ET - transferred one 3BA blast and one 1BB blast, none survived to freeze
Mar 4-6 - POASs all th_abfp.gif
Mar 7 - Beta BFP but only 23 so nurse said it doesn't look good
Mar 10 - 2nd Beta was down to 5 th_abfn.gif

IVF #2

April 1 - WTF appt, got green light to start Estrace Primed Antagonist protocol again

April 8 - CD1

April 30 - CD23 - Start taking Estrace

May 13 - CD1

May 17 - Assigned CD3 - started 300iu Puregon & 150iu Menopur

May 21 - CD7 - lining is 0.5. Ovaries are still too quiet to see anything

May 23 - CD9 - lining 0.66. Right side 3 < 1.0. Can't see left side

May 24 - CD10 - start Ganirelix

May 25 - CD11 - lining 0.8. Right side 1.2, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0, 0.9, 0.8.  Still can't see left side

May 27 - CD13 - lining 0.9. Right side 1.4, 1.4, 1.4, 1.4, 1.2, 1.2, 1.2, 1.1, 1.1, 1.0, 1.0. Still can't see left side. Noticed fluid on my lining that we need to keep an eye on. May mean a freeze all if it doesn't go away.

May 29 - CD15  - lining 1.3. Right side 1.9, 1.8, 1.8, 1.7, 1.65, 1.6, 1.55, 1.5, 1.5, 1.25, 1.2, 1.1 (13 total). Still can't see left side. Fluid on lining is just a "sliver in lower uterine cavity". Trigger tonight.

May 31 - CD17 - ER - 8 eggs retrieved from right side
June 1 - day 1 embryo report - all 8 eggs were mature. 6 already showing signs of fertilization

June 2 - day 2 embryo report - 6 fertilized are all now 4-6 cells which is what they like to see for day 2. The other 2 did not fertilize.

June 3 - day 3 embryo report - They expect 8-10 cells by day 3. We have 1 @ 10 cell, 1 @ 9 cell and 4 @ 8 cell. She said that was very good news.

June 5 - Day 5 - transferred one 2cc blast and two compacting morulas

June 6 - day 6 - none made it to freeze so this is officially our last shot at this

June 9 - 4dp5dt - HPT was BFN

June 10 - 5dp5dt - HPT was BFN

June 11 - 6dp5dt - FRER HPT was BFN - starting to lose hope sad.png

June 12 - 7dp5dt - FRER HPT had the faintest second line (maybe I am imagining it?) possible BFP?

June 13 - 8dp5dt - Digital HPT on FMU was BFN. AF arrived with a vengeance this morning. It's not official until after tomorrow's beta but I am pretty sure we are done sad.png

June 14 - Beta #1 th_abfn.gif

This was our last OHIP funded cycle and we can't afford to try again. I really wish IF treatment wasn't so damn expensive so that everyone who deserves a family could have a chance at one! Heartbroken.

Hi Tara-Lynn!

I've heard really great things about Dr Shapiro! We're seeing Dr Arthur, and we just had our first appointment with her last week =) We have to get some of our bloodwork redone, and a hysteroscopy next cycle and then we're good to go the following cycle, provided I get the go-ahead from my immunologist! We were at Markham/York for the last two years (Dr P) and we're very happy with the change.in care and attitude.between the two clinics. We feel much less like a number, and more like a person/individual. And they're not pushing the business side of things either. It's refreshing!

I have a question actually... Do they do bloodwork there at the clinic? We got our reqs for the infectious disease panel, and were told to go somewhere else for the draw. I wasn't thinking about monitoring though. I assumed that they do that in-office at the same time as the u/s, but maybe not? Do you have to go to the main hospital for that? Or do they just have lab techs there during monitoring times? I'm used to having both done in the same place at the same time, and kind of assumed that was how everybody did it? (You know what assuming does of course icon_wink.gif )

Hi Muffin Mama,

I'm currently cycling there and yes, they will take your blood "in house" at the same time as the scan but the other preliminary stuff is done elsewhere.

And all the nurses, docs are great!

Good luck with your journey!

Thanks Adventure! Good luck to you too!!!

That's good to know about the bloodwork. I'm not a fan of needles in the first place (though I don't seem to have a problem giving them to myself, it's just the blood draws that get me) so adding to that stresses me out! Are the lab techs there decent too? I have tiny veins and my right arm is completely useless. My left arm blows out and collapses easily, and they end up having to take it from my hand or upper arm after the 3rd day or so. The female tech at York was great, but the alternate (male) tech was terrible. He had a habit of blowing out the veins in my hand even =(

I'm not currently cycling at Mt Sinai but did my fresh cycle in Aug and my successful FET in Oct.  Loved all the doctors and nurses. At my 7 week viability scan, Dr Greenblatt (who was my doctor), a few nurses and even the embryologist who worked on my case all gave me huge hugs of congratulations.  As Dr Greenblatt let us listen to the heartbeat, I burst out crying and she was like "i'm tearing up too!".  That was nice.  Even the receptionists and the billing office clerk knew me by first name, so that was nice too.

As for the techs doing the cycle monitoring bloodwork, there are a variety of them and they are nice, but not alot of time for chit chat.  They move you in and out fast!  My viens are hard to find too, and my whole cycle was totally fine. Only one tech bruised me.  My only complaint about the in house bloodwork is that for your beta tests, you have to go elsewhere and then they send the results to Mt Sinai and then they call you .  Slightly inconvenient but nothing major.

Good luck!!

:) sarah

Congratulations Sarah!!! We were very pleased when we had our appointment to see that there are doctors that really care about getting us pregnant, and I'm glad that we are going there now! I really feel like we made the right choice with switching =)

That sucks about having to go elsewhere for betas. Though I guess it would be easier for me than going downtown? (I live in Whitby.) Do they still contact you the same day with your results?

Hi Ladies!

I am also cycling at Mt Sinai. Dr Shapiro is also my RE, although I was seeing Dr Daniels before she completed her residency last year. I have nothing but good things to say so far... The staff has been amazing to me. Very helpful and friendly! Her nurse Maddie is outstanding - she told me I can call her whenever I have questions. They are also very accommodating knowing that I am travelling from Northern Ontario.

My husband and I were given a very low success rate due to having DOR. We were booked to do IVF last November but my husband had a change of heart last minute and just wasn’t ready. We both seem to be back on the same page and will be doing out first round in April. I AM SO EXCITED! (and nervous!!!)

Good Luck Ladies! Look forward to seeing everyone's updates/progress... if you can call it that :)

Me - 34 (DOR - AMH 0.59) / DH - 37 (Some male factors)
TTC for 4 years, Diagnosed with DOR (Summer 2013)

Doctor recommended IVF with ICSI - giving us a 5% success rate

IVF #1 - MAY 2014

ER May 16 - 5 AMAZING mature eggs! All 5 fertilized!

ET May 21 - Transferred great looking day 5 blasts (1BB & 1CC) and we have one on ice! (1CC)

Beta #1 (9dp5dt) 196

Beta #2 (12dp5dt) 799

th_abfp.gif  YAY!!! So happy and feeling so blessed!

US June 23 (7 weeks, 4 days) TWO AMAZING HEARTBEATS!!! (Baby A 150 BPM and Baby B 156 BPM)

US July 28 (12 weeks, 4 days) Both babies measured on track and were moving around like crazy! (Baby A 150 BPM and Baby B 157 BPM)

US September 15 (19 weeks, 4 days) Everything looked great! Literally two bouncing baby boys!!! (Baby A 141 BPM and Baby B 144 BPM)

US #2 October 1 - Tech was able to get missing measurements. So nice to see my boys bouncing around!

Check up with OB October 17 - 6 MONTH MARK YAY!!! Everything looked great from last two US's. OB sending me for blood work and glucose test. Go back in 2 weeks for follow up.

Feeling so blessed! Praying my peanuts continue to grow nice and strong! babyboy.gif babyboy.gif

Hi TJ! My husband had cold feet for quite awhile as well. I think because we're [mostly] MFI (with some autoimmune thrown in on my end just for good measure) he just couldn't deal with what it all meant. Looks like Dr Shapiro is pretty popular! One of my friends just completed her testing with her and is waiting to do their first IUI in April, so you guys might see each other at your monitoring appointments!

Good luck to everyone!

In the most recent Toronto Life issue, they profiled the best doctors in Toronto and Dr Greenblatt and the Mt Sinai clinic made the list!

I think Dr Shapiro did my transfer....I liked her.

Good luck to everyone!

In the most recent Toronto Life issue, they profiled the best doctors in Toronto and Dr Greenblatt and the Mt Sinai clinic made the list!

That's awesome! I'm really liking this place better than our previous clinic every time I deal with them! I can see why they're so popular!

I'm exactly the same way! We've been waiting for the last two years to be able to start this cycle (we tried to "fix" the MFI, and then I had some health issues that had to be dealt with first) so all I've done is obsess over every single detail! I'm pretty sure Dr Arthur was laughing at my 3 pages of questions that I had for her. She said that I was "prepared" =P I think the fact that we feel comfortable there really speaks to her bedside manner. Of course, I'm still terrified. But it has nothing to do with the doctor for once!

Well, I'm cycling this month but given our track record, I'll probably be there in April (and May and June) as well! Ha.

You're in good hands there! Fx for your April cycle!

Awesome! My CD1 after our appointment should be a few days after that (I love that my cycles have regulated since starting Synthroid!), so we might be starting around the same time! I go tomorrow for CD3 testing smile.png
