Hi you two,

Just being nosy :blush: Wondering how the 4 of you are making out. I think Heidi must be reaching the 28 week mark??

Think of both of often and still praying for your little girls.

Hey Sam;
I am off to the Dr. tomorrow (not my usual - his associate), hopefully they will book me for an u/s.
With each passing day both dh and I are feeling optomistic. We have her nursery pretty well done - just have to find a change table. Went in to her room today and found our cat curled up in the crib - I was not too happy and kind of worried. Do you have a cat? Do you think I am going to have a problem?
I will be 28 weeks tomorrow!!
You are already over 33 weeks - I hope I make it at least that far (my Dr. would be so amazed). Are you feeling good?

Sam - A BOY!! :woohoo: I am so happy for you. Did you tell Zoe?

Went to the Dr. today and have an u/s scheduled for Monday and it seems I have gestational diabetes, so now I have to go to another clinic. I am pretty stressed out and may need to give myself insulin injections - I have given myself enough injections with IVF. So I am a little down today BUT Dr. said that if she was delivered today she would have over 90% chance of survival. We have come along way!!

Hello Thanks for asking about me. I am doing ok just had some disappointing appointments this week. I have to go for a three hour GD test. I knew this was a posibility because I have PCOS anyway and was on Metformin before pregnancy.

I also have another infection well the same infection but I am not able to get rid of it.

The doctor also had a really hard time finding a heartbeat and because I am still not feeling it all that often he is a little concerned and wants to see me again in a week.

Heidi

I have two cats and they always try to get into the crib or any other baby thing they find. I always keep a spray can around and spray water at them. When my son was little I just always made sure that his room door was closed when he was in the crib.

Sam --Congrats that you are having a Boy I love having a little boy. I will update your information on the due date chart.

Hi Heidi,
I have a cat, and I always make sure to keep the room door closed when ds is sleeping- don't even chance it. They like to curl up at the top of their heads becuase its so warm. My cat actually used to sleep in my hair when it was really long, practically lying on my forehead. Also, they tend to get jealous of new addittions to the family. Our cat decided to take it out on the babies things by peeing on it. He was also not happy to be kicked out of our bedroom. Things are not so bad now- we try to make sure he gets his attention. And it seems he loves the baby- he'll rub up against him, and when the baby decides to grab a handful of fur, he just stands there and waits for me to ply his hand free- and my cats a biter so thats amazing. He doesn't like to be touched on his back near his tail - and if we do he'll bite, but if the baby does it hes fine with it. Funny, but it seems like he knows the difference. But definetly keep him away from the baby while hes sleeping. Oh, and someone had mentioned a while back that while the baby was still at the hospitla their dh brought home a blanket with the baby's smell on it, and gave it to the cat so he'd be used to the baby before they even brought him home. You may want to try that to thwart any jealousy issues.

Thanks all for the cat tips - I do remember someone mentioning bringing a blanket home from the hospital with the baby smell on it and dh and I will do it.

Wishing - sorry to hear about the continuing infection - glad the dr is keeping a close eye on you. I was just wondering if GD (in your message was gestational diabetes), and if so you said it was a possibility due to PCOS- I have PCOS and was not aware of this. I have been reviewing my diet to find out why my sugar may be high. I have been avoiding chocolate, but have had ice cream once a week (I love it :blush: ). I drink juice in the am and then water throughout the rest of the day. Lots of fruit. Whenever I go out (once or twice a week), I take a 500 ml bottle of sweatened iced tea. I am cutting out the ice cream and iced tea but not sure what else to do.

Heidi

Were you on Metformin before pregnancy to help with insulin absorption. I was already insulin resistant. THey don't know if I have Gestational Diabetes because I have not done the three hour test yet. Its not just sugar although its importnat to cut them as well. Things like eat only whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, limit your starch intake. Eat very small portions but spread them out to keep your sugar levels balanced throughout the day.

Thanks Wishing;
I was not on the drug that you mentioned. Thank you for all of the tips, I will start them today. My test for gd was only one hour. I went to the lab, drank some orange stuff, and an hour after had a blood test.
Good Luck with yours

If you have only done the one hour I would tell your doctor that you want the three hour. The one hour test only tells you if you need the three hour test. It is possible to fail the one hour and pass the three hour.

What drug are they putting you on?

Hey Wishing;
I will mention the three hour test to him, but it sounds like they are sending me to a diabetes clinic (should get the call this week), and they will talk to me about my diet and "stuff". The Dr. did mention that I may need insulin - nothing else was mentioned. The Dr. who talked to me was not my usual Dr. so hopefully through the clinic and my next appt. I will get better info.
How are you feeling?

Heidi - I failed the 1 hour test and passed the 3 hour test. When I failed the first one they sent me for the second one. What did you eat before you went for the 1 hour test?? I think that can really affect the results?? Anyway good luck and I sure hope you don't have to take injections

Thanks Kellie - Before my test I had a bottle of iced tea - mixed the sugar with bottled water. The reason for this is that whenever I went out I would get very lightheaded and even sick to my stomache. I thought Iwas low on sugar and since drinking iced tea on outtings I did not have these feelings. Went to u/s today with no iced tea - ended up very lightheaded and sick.

Went for u/s today. The u/s doc said my cervix is even shorter (would not tell me the length). He said I could deliver anytime and he would send the report to my Dr. right away. I am scared - I realize that 28 wks is ok but I really want to go longer for this little girl. I hate having no control over this and would do anything if I knew it could help her. The Dr's tell me there is absolutely nothing I can do and still do not want to consider complete bedrest - but let me tell you I don't do much of anything other than bed - couch - bathroom.

Tristan's placenta is now only 4.5cms which is good. our little girl now weighs 2 pounds

Hi Heidi, Wishing,

One of the side effects (in my case) of GD is that the baby grows a little quicker. In my case, I failed the 1 hr test, then had the 3 hr test, but never got the results because Sam came so early (28 wks on the nose). I believe that the GD that appeared to be starting helped Sam gain just that little bit of extra weight before he was born so that he had a much better chance surviving such an early birth. Mysterious ways...

Also, re: cats
My dh and dad removed ds#1 door and replaced it with a home-made screen door with 2x4s and screening. That way I could close ds door to keep 2 cats out, but still hear (and see) anything going on with ds in the bedroom. So could the cats, and dog, so they got an opportunity to get used to baby without having full access.

/Heather

Heidi,

I'm sorry you're scared, it a natural thing. At least you are over the 28 week mark and you know your little girls chances are good and get better every day. You have Heather to lean on should your miracle make an early appearance.

I'm sure I would do the same as you - if the doctors won't put you on bedrest - then do it yourself !! Good for you.

When is your regular doctor back? Are you at least enjoying the ultrasounds? Seeing that she's ok?

Wishing,
I hope your infection clears up - I'm having trouble remembering what it's from :bangin:

BOTH of you take care and thanks for keeping us up-to-date.

Heather - is Sam home now? Sorry, I haven't checked up on you in a while :blush:

Heidi I know that its really scary but remember that our girls are little fighters. Keep having faith because you are doing everything right. Also remember that everyday counts so count each day as an added blessing.

Sam- I developed infections after delivering one of my twins (who passed away in OCtober) in December, They seem to go between thinking they are uterus infections, kidney infections, and bladder infections. I have been on antibiotics off and on since December but its not getting any better and they have no other safe antibiotics that they can give me.

I Love the ultrasounds and seeing her!! It is scary but I keep thinking about how great Sam is doing, and also the fact that they have expected me to deliver anytime since Tristan's birth and I have proved them wrong.
Wishing - I was on IV antibiotics after the delivery and they got rid of the infection.

Heidi-28wks is awesome milestone :banana: My ob told me that everyday I make it past 28wks is a bonus & that most babies do very well at 28wks. Your doing an awesome job hang in there I know how tough it can be and nerve racking I was ready for the loony bin by the time we finally made it home. Thanks Jaan - we are now over 29 weeks :banana: .
Met with the Diabetes clinic today and got the monitor and the spiel. When they tested my blood there is was 4.9 which is really good as they want it under 7. They are only giving me one week to monitor and change my diet and if it is not improved by next Tuesday I will go on insulin injections grrrr. But I am hoping that if todays level is any indicator that the diet changes I have made are working and I won't need insulin. The nurse however did tell me that mine may not be diet related but caused by the steroid injections. And because I cannot increase my activity there is maybe nothing other than insulin. I have to eat more protein and dairy and eat more regularly. I go and see my specialist on Wednesday.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Hi Everyone;
Went to the specialist today and he said basically my cervix is completly thinned out as it is only 7mm s/be 3cm. He said I can go into labour anytime and not to wait at home if i feel contractions. He did say that he is feeling very confident that the baby will be fine even if she has to spend time in the nicu. I feel pretty good and I am going to take it even easier. Next week I have to go to the diabetes clinic, for an ultrasound, and then see the dr. on the following Monday.
