I have a D & C scheduled next Monday. At 9 weeks, no heartbeat and measured at 8 weeks. I want to do some tests on fetal tissue after the D & C. Does any one know how much it would cost?

Thanks.

Hi SR - just saw you over on another topic. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's so, so hard. We lost at 8 1/2 weeks and I was also at Create. We did karyotype the fetus and I believe (though could be off) it was $400-500? It was worth it to me moving forward and a lot faster than genetic testing on both of us. Only prob is that if it comes back female (as ours did) there is a chance they got your tissue rather than fetal deeming it inconclusive. I think at 8 weeks it is easier for them to collect than if growth stopped earlier. Questions to ask but I'm glad we did it. It gave me some peace of mind.

Again, I'm so sorry.

Thanks Tejat. Congrats on your baby! May I ask how long it takes to get the result back?

Thanks.

I couldn't have testing done after my D&C because there were three additional yolk sacs along with the fetal demise so there would have been no way to separate the tissue/DNA from those. But I just took misoprostol after my last m/c and turned in the POC for testing a few days ago. However unlike Tejat, with the company my RE uses they also take a blood sample from me that goes with the POC which eliminates the question of only obtaining maternal DNA. I am cash pay and was told by my RE (not the company that actually does the testing) that it will be approximately $500. Results are guaranteed within five business days, so about a week.

I had the tissue tested as well, but as I am in the States, I have no idea what it would cost in Canada.  I know it took a week or two - and the results were quite conclusive although it was indeed a female.  There was no question that there were two triple chromosomes which made it clear the fetus would never have been viable.  It was helpful to me to know that there was nothing I did or did not do that caused the miscarriage, and it wasn't something that would be certain to happen every time I tried - it was just a fluke.  I found it a relief to have had the tissue tested - worthwhile for my peace of mind for sure.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. So I had my D & C this morning and asked for the test. It is called "Katyotyping blood test/ Procrea". It costs CAD$410.00. The tissue will be sent to Montreal for testing.

Sounds like a reasonable amount.  I hope the results are helpful to you and you get as lucky as I did (the next round got me my son!).  Good luck!

We sent our baby for tests after I had a stillbirth but I was never asked if I wanted this specific tests. I wonder if they'll do it anyway. I guess I'll find out when I get the results.

Trying to conceive since our wedding day May 25, 2008.
Started Clomid Jan-April 2012.
Referred to RFP June 2012.
First consult at RFP November 2012.
First IVF cycle on antagonist protocol (GonalF, Luveris) January 2013.
Transferred two day-3 embryos, had severe OHSS, lost one twin between 7-13 weeks but was expecting one little one October 2013.
Found out at 6 mos that our little one had died weeks earlier and had to induce and deliver stillborn, July 25, 2013.
Something found on adrenal gland at follow up ultrasound, MRI showed what seems to be a benign tumor. Meeting with specialist Jan 8, 2014 - all fertility treatments on hold. :/
Tumour is definitely producing Aldosterone (causes high blood pressure) and Cortisol. Lucky me, only 34 similar cases recorded in the world! Tumour removed May 2014.
Approached about a possible adoption March 2014. Rush through all the paperwork and process.
Charlotte Evangeline born June 27, 2014. We brought her home on July 7 and held our breath for 10 days until she officially became ours.
Surprise BFP October 2014. Due to wonky cycles, ultrasounds convince Doctors I have a blighted ovum but detailed ultrasound reveals heartbeat at 6w3d. On progesterone support and waiting to see if pregnancy is still viable. Holding our breath again.

Sorry to hear about your experience JacMac - the longer a pregnancy goes without a happy ending, the worse it is - I can't imagine how lousy that must have been.  I wish you better times ahead.

I just got the call and they said there was maternal contamination and they couldn't give me a result.  When I agreed to do the testing I asked what if that happens - they said the percentage of time is super low.  I asked do I still have to pay if they don't find anything?  RE couldn't tell me then or now so now I'm pissed I did it because I'm sure I basically just spent $500 for NOTHING.

th_asoapbox.gif th_angrywife.gif DON'T PAY!!! I swear I would dispute at the very least and try not to pay. I am so sorry you don't have any clarity. It sucks!

Diagnosis: Repeated Pregnancy Loss + DOR + Advance maternal Age.

So far no luck with IVF attempts. Hope things take a turn soon.

I was told there could be no result since they use karyotype at the beginning. That means they have to take the fetal tissue, and grow some cells in lab. Sometimes, if the cells don't grow, they won't be able to make a conclusion. DH wanted to do that, he is ok with the risk.

We have sent our tissue of conception to Quebec (Procrea) as well a couple of months ago. unfortunately, the result was "incolclusive" whatever it means...it was my 4rth m/c and the first one we've sent for testing, so I'm very sad for having no answers.

Have they checked your thyroid and screened for celiacs disease? I am not an expert on immune issues so some of the other ladies may pipe up but your miscarriages are occuring during a period where it could be something like thyroid etc.

My TSH is elevated, so I've been on Synroid for quite a long time. My doctor just say "unexplained". But he wants to do Hysteroscopy next cycle. Not sure what celiacs disease is, I think I never done test for it. Does it cause miscarriage?

Good thing they are monitoring your thyroid so that eliminates that.  Celiacs disease is related to gluten intolerance and yes it can cause first trimester miscarriages around that time.   It's another one I would look into just to be sure.   I'm so sorry to hear about so many first trimester losses, it's always so heartbreaking ;-(

Summer - Just came here to check if you ever got results. You've been on my mind as our stories seemed similar. I was also on synthroid and our results came back normal female. I think of her often.

Although we never knew what happened  we pushed on with reassurance that a normal karyotyping was good news in that we were healthy and so many genetic issues were ruled out. It took a couple more tries but Create put me on a low dose of prednisone and baby aspirin along with the synthroid and we switched to a mini ivf to mximize egg quality as I was only getting 9 or so eggs with full dose anyways. I got my golden egg, healthy pregnancy and baby girl just a few months later.

Have faith and keep on trying if you can. I was 39 at the time and my husband had VERY low morphology. My dr never wiavered for a second. He said he knew how hard it was to lose the baby but that it was a very good sign that I did get pregnant, the karyotyping was normal and that we WOULD have our baby. His words and belief were very strengthening. Hopefully they can help you a bit too :)

Thanks for your encouragement, Tejat. Which doctor are you with at create? I'm with dr. Baratz. Dr. Baratz never mentioned mini ivf, We wanted to try one superovulation cycle in November, he wanted to use higher dose to get more follicles, so I'm not sure whether it will sacrifice quality.

Thanks vball_gal, I've never done celiacs test, but I did started gluten free diet about a month ago since I read going gluten free could improve your fertility. I found my energy level went up. Before when I play tennis with DH, I always ask for a break every 30min, now I can play a hour and a half and don't need a break, so I think it is from the diet.

I was with Dr. Dar who has since returned to Isreal. He was on a fellowship here for a few years. My iui's and first two ivf's were all about as many as we could get but I had a heart to heart with him about moving forward and my fear of too many drugs. He had mentioned a mini on my second fresh but I wanted to get as many as I could. When that yielded only five embryos and a bfn plus I asked him to take remaining  embryos post 3 day transfer of the "best" to day five and only freeze as blasts and none made it, I re-thought the whole thing. I still got five embryos with the mini but with half (if) the stims and a major discount as a result. Supposedly the dr's got together to discuss my case and they (Librach essentially) agreed a mini could be the answer. In my case it worked.
