Just curious if anyone has heard about Genesis having a power outage and losing frozen embryos?? I read on another forum that they did and a multi-million dollar lawsuit has been started. I want to know if this recently happened and are my embryos ok. Wouldn't they let their patients know about this??

Here is a copy of the post. It is posted in the VFC board.

Question regarding frozen embryo's

I was speaking to a 'friend' today who works for RFP in calgary.  When he heard I was headed to BC for treatment, he was concerned.  Apparently Genesis keeps their eggs/sperm/embryo's in a 'very cold fridge', and power recently went out...you get the picture, multimillion lawsuit happening.  He said it won't happen in Calgary, as it's liquid nitrogen used (no power needed for it).  When I told him I was seeing VFC, he just suggested I enquire about embryo storage.

I would assume that Genesis would inform us of this. Also, as Malbec said high tech labs tend to have back up generators. I'm thinking it's just a rumour.

As I recall this happened several years ago. I kind of remember a member at the time sharing her utter loss because the very last of her embryos perished. She and her DH did not have the option of trying again. I think it was because he was a cancer survivor.

It was my original post, and I believe what gibasgirl is saying is correct, that it's not a current issue, but a past one...

I was in contact with the clinic and they would like everyone to know that this is not correct. And that embryos are not kept in a very cold fridge.
