Hi ladies I just had a miscarriage and if my RE doesn't ask me to wait two months. I am losing trust in him as he is not at all treating me for my recent loss and is pushing me through IVF.

Diagnosis: Repeated Pregnancy Loss + DOR + Advance maternal Age.

So far no luck with IVF attempts. Hope things take a turn soon.

Fingers crossed I'll be joining you ladies.  Just got the bad news yesterday (high FSH and now...very low AMH), so we're likely to go straight to IVF. Hoping for an early slot since my clock seems to be running out of time - probably April (hopefully).

Our first cycle also....  I'm 41, DH is 36 and we're hoping we didn't take too long to find one another, desperately hoping we can have a complete family.

hi, i didn't know people replied here!  i thought i had my settings that i'd get an email when you do.  please join this group and let's make it the best.  i am trying not to spend all my time reading the forums for now.

so please make this your group thread and I see Alwayshope is here and she started her own thread too so welcome and help us with our thread!  i hope you have a nice day.506.gif  i've read a helpful book called Fertility Wisdom and am doing the no wheat/dairy diet plus food combining thing.  so you don't have meat with carbs.  instead you have a meal with carbs and vegetables OR protein and vegetables.  it's all about how we digest food and keeping the stomach quiet.  it's weird cuz my stomach doesn't make any noises now.  and warm or room temperature drinks too and no drinks close to a meal or closely after.

hello to everyone and i hope your day is pretty good so far.  i came back from Mt. Sinai to sign the consent forms, again a slight argument with my husband, i sure hope next time we get it right, i told him we better not argue as i can't take it.  anyway the nurse just called and said the dr. will be having me do estrace priming.   i asked if it would delay the treatment and she said no.  i don't know why she said that cuz i've read it does delay the egg retrieval/embryo transfer.  next week we see the Genetic counsellor re my husband's extra y chromosome.  yup that's what result we got.  and we're talking about PGS.

so the nurse also said a report is done after that appt. and implied it should not delay my treatment/medication but i sure hope it does not.

i'd also like to know why i couldn't have started this estrace this month.

i'm doing an Antagonist protocol with estrace priming.  i'll read more on that now but if anyone knows about it please let me know.  i see Alwayshope is doing the estrace also.

hi, regarding estrace, i found this if anyone is interested.

http://clomidandcabe...strace-priming/

Hi Estrace priming,

It is amazing how years of training can disappear in an instant, once a clinical situation become personal!

The rationale behind Estrace priming is based on sound physiology in and works quite nicely for some patients. The bottom line is that the estrogen prevents your body from recruiting follicles too early (a common problem as ovarian reserve declines). By limiting early recruitment, there are more follicles available at the beginning of your stimulation. Additionally, the follicles tend to be better synchronized. Therefore, they should all be ready at the same time and hopefully give you more high quality embryos.

Without going into too much detail, there are several hormones which participate in the communication between your brain and ovary. One of those hormones, inhibin, acts to suppress (or inhibit) the release of FSH from your brain in the last week of the cycle. As ovarian reserve declines, the production of inhibin in that last week of the cycle also declines. This decline allows your brain to start releasing FSH earlier than it normally would. The FSH then stimulates the ovary in the last week of the preceding cycle, and by the time the third day of the next cycle comes around, there is already a follicle or 2 that is bigger than the rest. We call this dys-synchrony and it is one of the reasons, of lower egg yield in low responders.

With estrace priming, the estrogen pills, which also suppress FSH release, essentially replace the inhibin. Theoretically, if the estrogen suppresses FSH, then the follicles should all be the same size when your period begins. IF the follicles are all the same size when stimulation begins, there is a better chance that they will grow at the same rate and be ready at the same time.

I hope that is clear. If not, rest assured that estrace priming is a safe and relatively effective technique that can help with egg yield.

Good Luck,

Dr. Marc

hi, do any of you know about the quantity or whatever it's called when AMH is measured? mine is 7.89 but i don't know if it's pM/ml or pmol/L or pm/ml. The Dr. didn't know and my results don't say that i can see. i guess it's pmo/L but the chart below says "low fertility", my dr. said my number was "very respectable".

do you know of other charts? thanks

hi all, just posting this as it might be helpful.  i listened to one session of Deepak a few times when they ran this same thing a few months ago, & it was when i first found out of this ivf path and i was up in the wee hours of the morning in panic and it's very calming.

(free) Deepak's meditation links starts Mar 11, it's a 21 day challenge but u don't have to click on a new link each day.  the links are active for quite awhile but eventually they're turned off.

(about $10, Mt. Sinai counsellor recommended) Eli Bay meditation cds or mp3s.  i called Eli who's in Toronto & he recommended either the "Let Go" or "Going Deep".  I bought the "Empowered Breathing" and "The Healing Light". http://www.elibay.com/products.html

North V they can bring your FSH down with acupuncture and or herbs. It takes about 3 months on average. Go to a naturopathic doctor who specializes in fertility or a Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor/acupuncturists who specializes in fertility. BC has 1 of the 3 schools of naturopaths in Canada so there should be a plethora of specialists.  And both specialities are typical covered under your employee benefits Good luck!

Hi, I'm thinking this is the cycle group where I best fit. I start taking BCP this Saturday (March 2) on day 5 of my period as part of a Flare Protocol (along with daily Fragmin injections...because of a blood clotting disorder). Then it's a baseline ultrasound on March 20th and start Suprefact injections on March 25th. Looks like things will work out for a mid April ER and ET...but I am really unsure since this is our first IVF. I don't know which is more difficult to decifer- the conflicting timelines from the clinic or the abbreviations and multitude of protocols on this forum. I'm hoping things will make more sense as we go through the process. Wantingour1st, No one has even suggested genetic screening (other than perhaps an amnio) and I will turn 42 in September.

Fiancé: 42
We have been together 12 years and haven't gotten pregnant.

2013- IVF #1:
Jan 10 -Surgery (hysteroscopy and D&C) to remove several uterine polyps
Feb 26- AF

The PGD screening is generally done if you are checking for a specific chromosomal issue - it is often not helpful after a certain age because you will likely not get that many embryos with which to work - and the PGD can destroy the embryos - if you don't have that many, it isn't necessarily a chance you want to take.  It can also simply be inaccurate - they remove a cell from the embryo to check - sometimes that cell is not normal but the rest of the embryo is, or vice versa - so the results are inacccurate.  I intended to use PGD but did not as I only had 5 eggs fertilize - and by day 3, I only had 2 embryos left.  I was not about to remove a cell from each of those to check on them (and have to freeze the embryo to wait for the results, and then the embryo may not defrost well).  I just transferred back those 2 embryos.  They could have both been chromosomally defective - the first cycle that I did that, they were both defective - one grew to 6 weeks and then wasn't viable.  The other didn't grow past a few weeks.  On my second cycle, one didn't grow and the other became my son.  But the PGD would not have been a good idea in my case due to the low number of embryos with which I was working (due to my age).

Unless you are trying to screen for some specific chromosomally related illness, PGD isn't necessarily helpful.  See what happens with your cycle - how many eggs you get that fertilize and how many embryos you have after a few days.  Good luck!

P.S. There is an "over 40 thread" started a couple of years ago where about 50 women follow it - it's a nice place for all kinds of info as everyone is in the same age group.  Many of the women have found that golden egg, some already have children, some are cycling, some are pregnant - the range varies.

Hi I'm new to the thread, and look forward to hearing from others going through similar experiences. I'm 41 (will be 42 in 6 months). I'm hoping to start cycling in April. I had my second myomectomy (had 13 fibroids removed) in January. So the soonest I can start is April. I'll be starting my workup in 2 weeks. I'm a little concerned about scarring from my surgeries, but I really hope that's not an issue, especially with all the other challenges I'll be facing because of my age. And I really want to start as soon as possible.

My DH is convinced we should do PGD because of our ages, he's 39. But it's interesting to read some of the other perspectives. My RE doesn't seem to be a big fan of PGD, so I haven't made a final decision yet. I guess I have time to think about it. Lots of hurdles to overcome before I get to that point. I'm anxious to get started and feel like I'm obsessing. I'm trying to find ways to distract myself and find other things to think about besides this process. I hope that sharing experiences in this forum will help me.

I look forward to hearing other's experiences and hopefully lots of success stories!

Hi I'm not familiar with PGD but I had a couple of other questions. Hope you don't mind if I jump in
I had my first u/s after 4 days of Meds and my follicles were too small to even be measured. The Dr said its worriesome but I might be responding slower. Has anyone else had this? I hope my cycle doesn't get cancelled😣. I was on estrace priming on this cycle vs the last one I wasn't.

Secondly did anyone read the Dos and Donts blog on this site? It was started a few years ago and people with successful pregnancies recommended things like eating the pineapple core, taking Benadryl etc. just curious what your thoughts might be.

Hi, i did read the do's and don'ts here also.

for PGD pre-implantation genetic diagnosis which is testing for a specific condition.  there is also PGS pre-implantation genetic screening which is screening for chromosomal defects.  i will type up my notes from the gentic counselling on this.  i think Comprehensive Chromosome Screening (CCS) is what it's called in the U.S.  i have to read on that though.

i'm getting nervous, i will get my period this wkend then i wait i think 8 days then i take estrace then other stuff i find out more details soon.

me 43, FSH 5, AMH 8.8 pmol/L is "Low Ovarian Reserve" which is 2.3 to 15.7 pmol/L

dh 41, low sperm, good for IVF

chance of IVF working because of age: 5% or less

we're taking lots of vitamins, (always did but now are taking a few different ones: InnoQnol CoQ10, PQQ, Inositol powder, baby aspirin, Prednisone (cuz i'm MTHFR I did a blood test & shows positive for blood clotting), Synthroid/Eltroxin (for my slightly elevated antibodies to thyroid I got after IVF) DHEA, Melatonin, Folapro (active form of folate), Royal Jelly, Bee Pollen, L’arginine, L’carninitine, Grape Seed, Pycnogenol, Resveratrol, Astaxanthin, NAC, Macca, E, C, D, Chinese Tea, homeopathic detox Unda numbers, weekly acupuncture, No dairy, no wheat, no sugar, everything organic I can find.

Hi ladies!
Can I join? How is everyone? I read most of the posts but they were awhile ago feb and early march. It's march 12... where's everyone at in their cycles???!
Me. I will be 40 April 21..ugh we are really hoping to do second ivf next week. My AF should be march 18-20. Last month doc put me on clomid for the first 5 days and I started stimming day 4&5 and cd6 had only 2 follies growing and cycle got cancelled. How depressing! We have only one more kick at the can and if it works this month the 2ww should
Take us right to my bday. Happy bday to me:) I'm thinkin this month will be the charm!
We won't be doing the pgd screening cause I don't get many follies. First ivf started with 5 and grew 8 but only got 5 eggs. I respond well to the stims just have poor ovarian reserve to start with.
Whoo to march/April girls!!
Have a great day everyone..it's a rainy Vancouver day here today!
Me 40 DOR
Dh 44
I had a planned full tubal ligation (took both tubes out) when my last baby boy was born 19 mths ago through planned c-section sept 20.2011.
Me: have a 21 yr old son, 10 yr old daughter, 19 mth old son.
Dh: has a 22 yr old daughter and our 19 mth old son.

Antagonist protocol jan 2013' first and only ivf started (as we thought only one :() They got 5 eggs and none fertilized (icsi was not done as recommended, consented to, and paid for)
Next cycle will hopefully start (fingers crossed) feb or march 2013.

Feb 21/13- day 2 of AF. 5 follicles on one side and possibly none on the other..DOC keeping me on antagonist protocol but has added 3 days of clomiphine citrate. Something about adding a MOS protocol to my antagonist protocol. Clomid for 5 days 2 pills a day & on cd3 started 300 bravelle & 150 menopur shots. Us & bw feb 27. Cd6 angry as heck! ONLY 2 follies supposidly found on both sides now...wtf???Feb 27. Cycle cancelled Gggrr we will see for next month :(

March 22.13~went to day 4 ultrasound this morning expecting my cycle to be cancelled cause two days ago re wasn't sure if I had a large follicle or a cyst. It was really hard to drive 1 1/2 hours then wait..and wait. Anyhow, I couldn't believe it when he told me we are going ahead. I think I almost cried tbh. I have 7 follies at this point. He's keeping me on the clomid for 3 more days and then I start injections tomorrow cd5. 300 bravelle and 150 menopur. I definetly am felling much better this afternoon then I did when I woke up :)

March 25.13~5 days of clomid and 2 of injections. Out of the 7 follies (1~12, 1~11, 1~10, 1~8 & 3~6) he figures we only have a shot at the 3 large ones and the small ones won't catch up. Cycle cancelled again:( I'm so mad and disappointed. Not sure if I can do another month

April 16.13~cd2 ultrasound showed 7 follies but..at this point we have 2 leaders at 6-7mm and the others are 3-5. Clomid cd2-cd4 and 300 bravelle 150 menopur cd3 & cd4. Us/bw Friday April 19. Grow my little follies grow! I can't be happy till after Friday.

Hi Mommyof3allready! Welcome to the group. I can't speak for where others are at but here's what I'm doing...

i'm doing a flare protocol. I started taking BCP (Marvelon) and Fragmin (injections for my blood clotting disorder) on March 2nd. I take BCP for 21 days (til March 22nd) and go for blood tests and an ultrasound on March 20th. A few (?) days later I start Suprefact injections... FSH injections (Gonal F) a couple of days (?) after that. Looks like egg retreival April 10-12, embryo transfer April 13-15. Most of these dates are just my best guess as my clinic hasn't given me much info and this is our first IVF.

Hello all!

I will be doing my second IVF this April, as soon as my period starts and we have decided to do PGS. I really struggled with this decision. I know the scientific lit out there says by that by the third IVF chances of conceiving go up to 75% but  I am 39. My first IVF resulted in 4 Day5 blasts. We implanted two right after ER and one stuck but had no heartbeat at 6 weeks. We then transferred the other two several months later. One implanted and split into twins, we had two heartbeats at 6 weeks (we were so excited) , but one week later there was fetal demise.

We are doing PGS to rule out chromosomal abnormalities due to "old eggs". Together with the RE we came to the decision that there was no point in doing the same thing over and over and then expecting a different result. Hopefully PGS will give us some answers. If the embryos are abnormal, we will consider moving on to egg donation. If they are good, then we have to figure out something different to do on the next transfer or use a surrogate. We want a baby and we want to move forward towards that goal.

Soooo, we will be freezing my embryos in april after PGS and then deciding what the next best step is for us if they turn out normal.

Best of luck everyone!
