Hi guys,

I am new to this site. Did my first IVF but did not respond to the treatment, so it was cut short on day 8. i was very disappointed. I am in my early 40s, really running out of time :(

The clinic is recommending adding saizen to the protocol, wondering if anyone had any success with it? And if so, how long did you have to take it?

Thanks!

Sounds like we're going through the same thing. My first round of IVF was cancelled and we did insemination instead. Unfortunately was BFN. I only had 2 follicles after taking 225iu of Menopur and GonalF. I also took, and am taking DHEA and CoQ10. I'm 38 and have low AMH of .35.
We will be doing another IVF cycle in January and my RE has me taking growth hormone in that protocol. I'm not sure if it is Saizen (don't know if there are other brands). I will find out the specifics this Friday at our meeting.
There is a thread about Growth Hormone in the group 35+. Hopefully we can get some more info there! I wish us both luck with everything!

Lets keep in touch on here, I would be interested to hear about your HGH protocol as apparently they can be quite diverse. Any idea when you will be starting?

For sure. My last IVF was in November. I am told they recommend 3 months in between cycles, no dates finalized yet but i am thinking it will be sometime in Feb or Mar. My clinic has also given me the choice to participate in a study wherein they will give the growth hormone for 6 weeks (4 weeks before and 2 weeks during the IVF cycle) but the downside is they in a group of 20, the hormone will be administered to 15 subjects and 5 subjects wont get it - its to compare results. I am confused if i should go for that or not.

My clinic also offered that study to me. Sounds like the same sort of protocol. I just heard last week that they have decided to put the study on hold for an undetermined length of time. Time is one thing I don't have because of having DOR, so after talking with the doctor running the study, I would opt to not participate anyway. I couldn't handle it if I spent the time and money on a cycle and wasn't guaranteed the GH. In saying that I've heard of great results from the study, so if I had more time in sure I would do it.
Where are you located? I've heard the study is being run in Toronto and it is (or was) here in Vancouver.

Diminished Ovarian Reserve. Did you get the AMH test done? I basically am running out of eggs very quickly so that is why time is not on my side!
I am in Vancouver as well, Coquitlam actually. I'm going to Genesis. I have a friend who went to PCRM and loved it but my doctor referred me to Genesis. Has been a good experience so far - apart from the bfn!
What about you? Do you like your clinic/doctor?
I wish the clinic wasn't closed for 2 weeks over the holidays, but at the same time, it's nice to just enjoy the time instead of sticking myself with needles!

I see Dr Nakhuda. He's really empathetic and works quickly. I've also met Dr Taylor and Dr Hitkari when doing my ultrasounds. Everyone seems really nice there.
Do you buy all your meds from them? I did last round and didn't check prices anywhere else. Thinking about looking around somewhere this time. Would love to get the air miles at Safeway!
Are you or have you done acupuncture? I went to accubalance a couple times and think I'm going to be starting it again soon. Supposed to help.

Hi, just called the clinic and told them i am going with the School kraft (GH with IVF), not gonna go with the study. They will call this afternoon with next steps.

Yea, I did buy all my meds from there,. luckily all were covered under my extended benefits. But Saizen is not covered - it will be an out of pocket expense.

No, I have not done acupuncture - they did not suggest it to me yet. Why is that needed for this?

Did you hear from the clinic about your next steps? I have an appt Friday to get details.

Acupuncture is supposed to help with IVF in a variety of ways. Go to "ivfacupuncture.ca" and you can see all the info about the clinic by genesis. They will actually come to genesis on the day of your transfer. I live in the valley so I'm going to start with a place out here and then go to them whenever I'm downtown for appointments. That's my plan anyway!

hi Sunshine 71. I saw above that you had your AMH level tested. i had mine tested as well but all my ob/gyn at the fertility clinic said was it's good and didn't give me any info on where i am in the range for my age. i've looked up info on the internet and it does seem to be good but i'm not sure what info is the most accurate. do you have any insight on this?

thank you!

FYI ... i'm turning 42 exactly 1 month from today so been having a lot of anxiety and been super emotional starting this journey

Hi all,

I just recently finished a cycle with saizen at AART in Halifax. I took 7.5mg every day of stims & I slimmed at max doses of menopur (150mg) & bravelle (450mg). I am 38 & don't have an official diagnosis but my egg quality is in what you'd call the "crap" department. This last cycle is the best I have ever done to this point. I am currently 6 weeks + pregnant & still have frozen embryos (first time!!!) if something should go awry. It was expensive, about $2100 but I regret nothing.

Good luck with your cycles & decisions about whether to go with HGH or not.

P.S. I also took co enzyme q10 1000mg, vitamin c 1000mg & omega 3 1000mg per day at my Specialists recommendation. It was my third cycle.

Hey Sunshine. Went into the clinic yesterday. So looks like my stunning won't be until February. A nurse is calling me next week about the HGH. Going to take that with my stims apparently. However, he has me loading up on supplements so I'm now taking 14 pills a day! Said to get full effect from them, I need to be on them for two months (the new ones anyway). So here's my list:
Already was taking:
-DHEA
-CoQ10 (I buy the kind they sell at Genesis)
-Multivitamin
-Folic Acid
Adding in:
-Melatonin
-Myo Inositol
-Vitamin D
It's a lot but all worth it! Then should be on some priming with Estrogen and Testosterone before stunning. He's not sure though because he doesn't want to worsen my endometriosis.

Butterbean, so good to know of your success with HGH. All the things we do are so worth it to get bfp's!

@babyQ - i am sorry but i am not sure what the right AMH should be. The Clinic told me it was good for my age (41). It definitely is a very emotional process to go through. Good luck and hope we are blessed with a babies in 2013 :D

@butterbean - congratulations! wish you a heathly baby - reading about stories like yours helps a lot.

@hopefulmom2012 - I agree - its worth it, I got a couple of nurses call me today - hopefully will find out about the next steps in a day or so. I am thinking mine wont start till feb. will keep you posted.

Sunshine - just talked to a nurse this morning. I will be started my priming on January cycle (mid Jan), then stims and HGH in February.

I've been taking most since before last IVF cycle in October. But I started the Vitamin D, Metaformin and Myo Inositol last week. Mind you I wasn't taking enough Myo inositol so now I've upped that. 21 pills a day for lucky me!!

Apparently my priming will be some progesterone pill and some sort of cream? She's putting my package in the mail today and I have an appt mid January.

I'm finishing up all my Christmas shopping today and tomorrow. Mostly done. Looking forward to some time off. It's always fun being with family, all our nieces and nephews. I really hope that next year we will have our own baby to celebrate with! I forget, are you trying for your first as well?
