Hi
I am just wondering if anyone knows the current success rate for live births at Mt Sinai for women under 35. I have to make a tough choice about switching clinics.

My RE told me that the success rate at Lifequest is 57% for women under 35. This is what I am trying to compare it to.

Thanks so much for your input!

Hi If at First!!!! I don't know the success rate at Mt Sinai but I just want to wish you luck. When are you planning to do your first IVF? It's been a while since we've talked. I hope you are doing well. Take care!

It's often hard to compare numbers, as each clinic will have their own spin on crunching the facts into statistics.... There's not regulations in how it's reported, or what is considered a success... Is a success just the bfp? Making it to 12 weeks? Live birth? Is the success rate based on each egg? Or each transfer set? Or all the eggs retrieved from one fresh cycle, which means your FET's would be considered still as one try...

Just be careful of the numbers, as they mean different things for different clinics.

I've had a good experience with Mt. Sinai, even though I had an early loss. I've heard that Dr. Virro is also very good though, as well as dr. Hannam.

See about me page.

Hi Camyam
Thanks so much for your response.
I realized after I posted that maybe this is a crazy question... initial panic after my dr appt this week. I couldn't figure out how to delete it.
It's great to hear that you had a positive experience there. That is what I need to focus on!

Thanks again!

I had the best experience at mt Sinai, at 38 I had Two pregnancy, though ended at 17 and 18 months, the docs at mt Sinai had done their jobs. Hats off to Dr Kimberley Liu. Best of wishes for you. The frozen embryo is where their highest success lies. They have an 85% success rate for under 35 years

Ttc forever!! Well more than 10 years now what an emotional rollercoaster!!

2010 - Twin pregnancy on break- Lost them at 17 weeks PPROM

Where did we leave the frosties at.....oh well here we go again...

2013 - June 3rd FET-  (7 frosties left)Transfer - SET - -BFP

At 20week appointment doc says I have a small bulg of membraines. Admitted in hospital to do a rescue cerclage. Failed on the OR table as my water broke. Stayed in hospital for 3 weeks trying to see if I could make it to viability...labour kicked in at 23 weeks & 5 days, Held my baby for 5 hours until she grew wings..thinking.gif

I am at Mt.Sinai and also OHIP funded because of tubal issues. When you are OHIP funded, you are funded for 3 fresh IVF cycles done before you are 40. If you have frozen embryos after your fresh cycle, and have these transferred at any time, these transfers are not counted as one of your 3 funded tries. So in theory, you would have more chances. If you do a fresh cycle and no embryos are transferred, this is also not counted as one of your funded tries. I hope that helps. Good luck with your IVF! I'll be back in Toronto for my last try in May.

Hi mrs loveday,
I am being referred to mt sinai due to tubal blockage. So I will be funded. Did you have to pay for the drugs separately? Were you required to take the Pill prior ro ivf? Just wanted to get an idea of the protocol.

Any help would be great.
Thanks

I went to Mt. Sinai for a tubal blockage IVF. We did need to pay for drugs separately (and got totally screwed by our insurance company). I was on a fairly basic protocol, estrace (low dose pill) for a month prior then Gonal-F, Repronex was added after the first two doses and then Orgalutron to trigger, followed by progesterone. All told drug costs were close to $10k.

In our case totally worth it. We were successful on our first try and my son is currently trying to eat the lady bug off his play mat.

Hi everyone!

Do you know any other clinic beside Mt. Sinai that is OHIP funded for tubal blockage?

Does anyone know if you can directly talk to someone at the clinic? I will be meeting with my dr. For my next steps after finding out I'm 100% blocked in both tubes. I want to do my research before my appt on Friday. Are there other requirements to be approved for the ohip funding? Do you have to go through the laproscopy first before they will? I'm just curious.
Thanks.

The downside to Mt. Sinai is they are an insanely busy clinic and there is no way to just call and speak to a real person. You need to leave a message. While they will get back to you usually within 24 hours they won't likely answer the questions you have on the phone.

They will need to put you through the hystosalipogram to verify a complete bi-lateral blockage. This is a diagnostic test and is not laparoscopic surgery.

If you have a complete bilateral blockage congratulations you just won the golden ticket to funded IVF (note: meds are not funded by OHIP and they will run you at least $10k and most work-related plans cap IVF meds at a lifetime maximum of $1-$5k)

If you do have a complete blockage make peace with Mt. Sinai's bureaucracy. They are the only funded IVF clinic in Ontario.

On the up side my interactions with doctors, nurses and all clinic staff has been overwhelmingly positive.

Me 37 - complete tubal blockage

Just to be really clear if you do have a complete bi-lateral blockage you do not need to do any laparoscopic surgeries before you are eligible for funded IVF.

Thank you ladies. I was concerned that I would. My only problem I have is my obgyn won't write bilateral blockage on my referal because without performing a laproscopy he can't prove that it wasn't me just spasming? Or whatever the case may be. Ive Been off the pill for 3.5 years. .all blood work. .sperm urine have come back normal. I have never been pregnant. I hope what he wrote was good enough for ohip coverage because I do not want to go through another hsg. I'm already frustrated with how things went yesterday at my appt.

Mt Sinai is not the only clinic in Ontario that is OHIP funded for bilateral tubal blockage.  The Fertility Clinic at LHSC in London is an option as well.  It is also a hospital based program and any woman with completely blocked tubes can get OHIP funding for three cycles there.

Glad to know there is another OHIP funded clinic in Ontario! I always felt terrible for families that were having to travel and spend money on hotels on top of paying for IVF. Even if they "only" had to pay for meds.

Walt, you will likely need to do another HSG. If your OB has not formally diagnosed you as complete bilateral blockage them the fertility clinic will need to re-run the HSG test to make the diagnosis.

Good news: the test is OHIP covered.
Bad news: OHIP won't find your IVF (yet) unless you have a documented diagnosis of complete bilateral blockage.

Further good news: you don't need to have the diagnosis of bilateral blockage for the fertility clinic to accept your referral.

As an aside even if your OBGYN had written bilateral blockage diagnosis on your referral the fertility clinic would be obligated to confirm the diagnosis by doing another HSG. So you would have ended up doing two of those awful tests anyways.

Thanks everyone. I received my call this morning to confirm a few things on my referal and should hear back about an apptvtime..The lady said they are booking into Sept. I also went onto their site and checked every drug possible prescribed and the din# and came to the conclusion that all drugs except puregon is covered (80% up to $4000 out of pocket...after that I'm 100% covered up to 100,000$ per year). Does anyone know roughly the going costs for ivf ? I dread having to go through another hsg 😕 it was agony.
