Hi,

This will be my third and last IVF/ICSI cycle and I am good with that. Because this will be the last, I am going all out. Baseline u/s is late enxt week. So I have 3 - 4 weeks before retrieval.

DHEA - I am starting DHEA 25 mg TID tonight. I realize I should have ideally started it earlier but is this ok? Has anyone seen improvement with such a short course?
CoQ10 - starting tonight. How much do most take? I think i have read anywhere from 400 - 800 mg? Again started earlier but has anyone seen improvement with such a short course?
ASA- starting ASA tonight. I had an endometrial biospy last night so I just wanted to wait until that was over. Do you continue to take ASA after ER/ET?
Acupuncture - first session is Monday. How often do most go to improve fertility? Do you continue to go after ER/ET?
Anyone combine massage into all of this? It seems appealing but I wonder if it will be a bit uncomfortable after the ovaries get booming.

Thanks for your help.

Hi there:

I took 400 mg of CoQ10 for about 3 months- it helps egg quality and also heart development of fetus from what I'm told
Acupuncture- I did for 8 weeks and then 1 or 2 times a week during the IVF cycle- also had it done immediately pre and post transfer at the clinic
I did continue to go post transfer and you can go up to end of first trimester to help if you wish
I didn't try the other 2 supplements you mention
Also I highly recommend meditation and yoga. Not sure if you've tried- I'm a high stress person and I found that in combo with all the above that it really grounded me- helped in conjunction with acupuncture to create a welcoming environment for the embryo at transfer.

Just my opinion. I had a successful cycle. Combined with the medical support I think that the above played a significant role in success.
Best of luck to you

#3at43?, I would start on 400 of Ubiquinol. I read in multiple areas that simple COQ10 doesn't get absorbed well by our bodies when we are over 40. I take 200 of Ubiquinol and 400 of COQ10 plus Fish Oil daily. Have been on DHEA 75 mg for last 3 mons. This is probably going to be the last cycle for me too. I can't take it any more. I am drained Posted Image Good luck to you, Girl! FX for beatiful healthy baby! Also fertility mayan abdominal massage would be very beneficial.
4 IVFs, multiple FETs, 2 Clinics (Genesis and VFC), over 60 eggs collected, 2 chemicals, 1 blighted ovum, 1 miscarriage at 8 weeks, 1 miscarrage at 12w5d with twins, severe adenomyosis ... First IVF at 35... Took two years break at 40 after devastating twins loss. Finally at 43 our miracle son Gabriel Marcus is born.. Long painful road...

Hi there
I think all those supplements and the acupuncture are VERY important things. As well as meditation. You can upload/download ivf cycle specific meditations from anjionline.com. I think it's like 20 $ and I LOVED IT. Listened to it twice a day and always put me to sleep. Priceless.

In my opinion, if you are really truly doing this for the final time and want to feel like you did EVERYTHING possible.. I would postpone your cycle until the new year. All of those supplements need time to work, and since eggs are produced 3 months BEFORE they are used in ovulation- the eggs you will be retrieving grew back in September or August of this year, so those supplements will not effect them. Acupunture takes at least a few months to start things moving, if you are "damp" or "hot" or what have you.... meditation can work pretty quickly, and diet changes such as NO sugar, alcohol or YEAST also help especially if you have endo. Lots of green veggies and little dairy is also recommended. I think massage would be a wonderful thing also, if it relaxes you. I understand you want to do your cycle in a timely manner, but I think 4-5 months of all of these wonderful changes could make a difference in your result.
Best of Luck to you!!

Remember to take coQ10 with a fat or with an omega 3 capsule so it can absorb better as well! But I agree with doodle bug, is there any way to postpone until the new year? Would you regret only taking the supplements for a month vs. a few more and giving it time to truly set in? I had the option of doing a cycle by christmas (this will be our last before moving to DE) and it KILLED me to say no. While I want to get the show on the road, I'm realizing that I need to give time for these things to work and so, I'll be doing a retrieval in April. After that, I'll know really gave it my all. Of course, better late than never with the supplements, right?

Good luck to you!

I know exactly how you feel. I think I am done with cycling as well. We just finished our third and last IVF cycle. We are going to do PGS and transfer on a FET cycle in a few weeks. My problem has been recurrent miscarriage and hope PGS helps. My experience has been that our control of the cycles is very limited. I have been on very high does of antioxidants, royal jelly and fish oil. My first cycle was not as good and I had not started taking antioxidants and royal jelly. For the 2nd cycle I added antioxidants to the mix and I am not sure if it was the effect of the antioxidant or a different protocol that ended in better results!!! On our 3rd cycle and three M/C later I added royal jelly to the mix and our results remained the same as the 2nd cycle (same protocol as the 2nd cycle). I strongly believe that protocols play the biggest role in the out comes. On a last note be very careful on the supplements and consult with your RE before starting it. To give you an example, I have PCOS (lots of eggs but poor quality) and taking DHEA is detrimental in my case since it induces PCOS like symptoms. I wish you the best of luck

Hi,
Thanks for all of your responses. Just an update: I ended up doing acupuncture, massage, daily light cardio for 45 min, DHEA, lipo-infused CoQ10, ASA, endometrial biospy, vit D, vit B, prenat5, calcium/mag, probiotics, and salmon oil. No caffeine or alcohol for past month. Best cycle so far. First cycle 3 eggs, second cycle 5 eggs and retrieval is tomorrow - hoping for 8. Regardless, I am not sure what has improved things or what I believe but I would do it all again. Best to all.

FX'd for you, I hope you get AT LEAST eight good eggs! (And stay home and take it easy tomorrow night!)

Single with secondary infertility, AMA, DOR, RPL.  TTC started with four failed IUI's.

IVF #1: converted to another IUI after 2 of 10 follies went rogue during stims --> BFN

IVF #2: 6 eggs retrieved, 5 fertilized with ICSI --> 3dt of 4 high grade embryos with AH --> BFN

IVF #3: 6 eggs retrieved, 4 fertilized with ICSI --> vitrified at 2PN (had to put TTC on hold)

IVF #4: 11 eggs retrieved, 9 fertilized with ICSI --> 5dt of 3 blasts  --> th_abfp.gif --> lost HB at 8w4d 8388.gif

IVF #5: 7 eggs retrieved, 6 fertilized with ICSI --> 5dt of 2 blasts --> th_abfp.gif --> missed m/c at 7w3d 8388.gif

IVF #6: cancelled due to poor response --> IUI --> totally unexpected th_abfp.gif --> chemical 8388.gif

Getting off the IVF train and happily moving on to international adoption

Dossier approved & registered!  Waiting for a referral...  kaffeetrinker_2.gif

Nine months later, still waiting...

I have been following your progress and I am so happy for you too!

Your results seem fabulous - did your previous IVFs start out so well? Do you think that the DHEA helped? You took it for such a short period of time....

You are in my thoughts! Third time is the charm!

LZM! Thanks for the thoughts!

iVF#1: 10 follies - probably 6 or 7 good size. 3 eggs - two mature. So many empty! Transferred two 4-cell day threes - (grade 3 and 4). Not so good. BFN.
IVF#2: 7 follies - 5 retrieved. 5 eggs, 4 mature. Transferred two 10-cell (grade 3) and two 8-cell (grade 2). Better! A bit heart-braking.
IVF#3: 9 follies, 8 good size. One immature. Seven fertilize. 3 great, 2 average, 2 poor. We will see!

Anyway, this cycle has been by far my best. And it is funny as you would think it would get worse and not better with age and decreased sensitivity to drugs (protocol didn't change for #2 and #3).

Not sure why - I have been off my bad epilepsy drugs (that are known to cause infertility) now for 4 months so I am sure that is importnat. I also lost about 15 pounds (not sure why - maybe my bad epilepsy drugs again). I also concentrated on not being quite so stressed (first cycle was aweful) and really increasing my circulation - acupuncture, massage and exercise - thinking it would decrease my stress and help circulate my meds and supplements and would keep uterus warm. Not sure if the endo biopsy, vit D and ASA will help implantation yet. I really don't know. I was on CoQ10 and DHEA for three weeks. I agree - a very short perioud of time. But I figure some time is better than no time. I feel so much better than before by far - not just fuller ovaries but so much healthier. I am not sure what is helping but it is probably a combo. Hopefully it will work this last time. If not, I wil be okay with that. Either transferring five day 3 embies or 4 blasts. Unless things change drastically over night - which they could! I am also more calm this time. I even went to visit the suggested fertility counsellor and will do during the 2ww. More accepting of whatever happens. I am hopeful this time - but still not overly optimistic.

Thanks for your hope!

Hi #3@43,

Thanks for your detailed response, it was really helpful. I really need to work on my stress management.

This IVF is going really well for you. Wishing you all the best tomorrow and lots of relaxation in the days to follow. I had no idea what a morula was, thank goodness for Wikipedia.

Hoping to hear good news here. I'm starting IVF now after taking DHEA and CoQ10 for 4 months on the advice of the dr. Amazingly, on day 3, I have 4 visible follicles! I tried IUI 3 times before taking these supplements and I never had anything on day 3 on my own before. So, it seems there is a case for taking these supplements in advance of trying IVF. I have DOR. My AMH level is 0.4% :(. They said I have a 5% chance but what the hell? I just have to try. Oh, thanks to doodlebug for the tip on Anjionline. I'm going to check it out. I'm also going for an accupuncture session next week. I know you're supposed to go in advance for a time but I maxed out my coverage for it and I couldn't afford it. Anyway, here's hoping we all have happy news soon.
