Hi ladies - just a quick update:
Megan is doing well in the NICU - finally got to hold her for the first time yesterday (Sunday - six days old). Today she is one week old and we are learning so much about her and are so much in love. I've been visiting her for a couple of hours a day right now, but am going to start visiting for longer (most of the day) now that I can hold her. I think that mat leaves should be extended for preemie moms - the first three months of my mat leave will be spent in the hospital 
She has had a couple of setbacks (nothing too major) and has overcome the setbacks well. The saying in the NICU is one step forward, two steps back - but she'll get there eventually. Pretty soon, hopefully, she'll be categorized as a "grower/feeder" meaning all she needs to do is grow and learn to feed. Right now she's getting the hang of the whole "breathing" thing LOL.
It is so amazing to see what they can do for these little babies now - 15-20 years ago we would have been looking at a whole different scenario. The NICU has amazing nurses and doctors, so we know she is in good hands.

Allie-have you notified EI that babe is still hospitalized? I thought there was a loophole that allowed you to be on a different type of leave or have your leave extended until babe was discharged? Sorry, I could be wrong on it. Or see if there's a social worker in hospital that may know. Good luck, and Megan sounds amazing so far!

Hi ladies: Just checking in...
Miss Megan is getting bigger everyday - she passed the two lb mark a few days ago! She is still a teeny tiny baby, but she'll catch up some day! There were twins in her pod born 4 weeks gestationally ahead of her, and one of them was only one ounce heavier than her at birth (he had IUGR - growth restriction I think).
I hold her as often as I can, usually every day as long as she hasn't been handled too much. I feel bad for my husband as he's only gotten to hold her once, but he only has short visits on his way home from work during the week, so the weekend is the only opportunity he gets to hold her. Megan is not on any medications (just fortifiers and vitamins being added to her feeds) and she doesn't have an IV. Just her feeding tube because she is to young to swallow and a breathing tube as she forgets to breathe sometimes. I thought she'd be on tons of machines for months, but I was wrong!
My sis in laws have been spoiling her with special preemie clothes from a store online - I will try to download the picture of her first outfit to my computer (it's on my phone) and post it here, but for now, I'll give you a teaser pic...
Anyways, have to go... take care!

March 18th it's a negative, not sure where we go from here, a break for now!
