Hi CherR,

My husband and I are trying to adopt through the MCFD. It's been a very long and eye-opening experience. If you have any questions, just let me know and I'll try to answer them.

Feel free to PM too.
Me: 41, DH: 44
TTC: since Jan, 2008 (age 34)

DH: Low morphology, low count. Me: Stage 2-3 endometriosis, non-functional fallopian tubes, small fibroids, low AFC, low poor responder ... anything else?

Jun 2008-Sep 2011 in a nutshell: One HSG, one very traumatic office hysteroscopy, one operative laparoscopy, three fresh IVF/ICSI cycles, one chemical, one early miscarriage, two tubal recanalizations, five IUIs (3 with Clomid).

May 2010 - Aug 2011 Attempted adoption application process through the BC MCFD. Aug 2011 Signed up with a private agency. On both waiting lists as of Apr 2012. Proposal through MCFD Jul 2012. Aug 2012 - Finally ... she's home and we're a family! : )

Adoption application #2 started Aug 2013. DD2 placed May 2014, finalized Feb 2015!

Hi impatient

Thanks for your response! I probably have a million and 1 questions but i'm thinking you already answered my biggest, waiting time! I completed most of my home study about a year and half ago, I did it at the same time I did my home study to become a foster home, however once I started doing fertility treatments the new adoption worker said I had to put all adoption stuff on hold until I decided to no longer pursue fertility treatments (which i personally think is awful, but can understand why they do what they do)! Curious to know how long you have been approved for? and did you say a specific age group?

Wow!

So are you waiting for a SW to finish your homestudy?

We applied in May 2010, did the education component in Feb 2011, then waited and waited. We called every month and were told that we were 4th in line for a SW, but then there were some staffing changes and when we called in Aug, we were told we weren't on a waiting list and the wait would be indefinite, so we did our homestudy through a private agency. We've been approved for Ministry and domestic infant since April 2012.

Which region do you live?

Oh, yeah ... age group. Originally we said 0-7, then 0-6, then our homestudy worker told us to change to 0-3, so we did, and then the MCFD worker told us that she is no longer accepting applications for 0-3, so we put it back to 0-7.

Oh wow, sounds like you have been through a lot! I hope things are quick and easy for you from here on out!
As for our home study, were not able to finish the study yet as we are still attempting some fertility treatments and they refuse to "parallel" fertility treatments and adoption, she told me to call when we have made the decision to stop treatment and I am just not ready to make that decision yet, as we are still fairly new to treatment. We are on Vancouver Island.

Did you end up fostering, and if so, how was it?

I'm contemplating looking into respite fostering. I'll give waiting for adoption a few more months before I look into, but it would be nice to have some kids around the house even if it's just temporary.

Yes, we are an approved foster home, we have been for about a year and a half now and in that time we have had one longer term placement, he was with us for about a year... and a hand full of respite fostering along the way.. lately I have been getting called just about every week to do respite. In my experience I much prefer the longer placements just because you get to know the kids and their personalities, but respite has been good too, we seem to get repeat kids which is great cuse you get more of a bond with them. Overall it has been a great experience for us this far, obviously it has its ups and downs, but at the end of the day I would definitely recommend it! :)
