First off I'm so happy to have found this site. YAY!!

Now, we are still waiting to hear from Heartland about our intial consult, of course the wait times are lengthy. We were told 6-8 months for a consultation. Anyways, I've been wondering about what the total costs were for you IUI? Oral meds and/or injects? This is something I've been trying to figure out and phoneing them and asking it like talking to dog, lol, they just told me everything is on their website. Thanks. I did ask if we had to pay a consult fee and she said no it was covered by Manitoba health, is this true? And I guess I'm curious to know what your experience has been like. Good or bad. I look forward to having a place to hang out while we wait to get in and getting to know you guys.

I've been cruising around and reading some posts, now like I said we really don't have any clue what all the fee's are for IUI. I keep reading about a program fee?! And is that required when doing IUI? We do have a somewhat ok sperm count, with our first SA being 22.5 million motile and our second being 14.04 million motile and according to their site they wanna see at least 5 million. While I'd love to be able to do IVF I don't think that will financially ever be an option for us and now I'm starting to think that IUI might be out for us as well if the costs just keep piling up. I really wish they would be able to say what the average cost of an IUI really is instead of just telling me to go on their site. Anyways, thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Hi pearljam - welcome! You do not have to pay a consult fee. The first thing we ever paid was 250 for dh's swim up. Iui on an inject cycle is $ 700 plus meds and non medicated is 400. My inject cycles cost about $2300-2500. Have you used clomid or letrozole? Quite often the will try that before iui. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies. I keep reading that there is a registration fee of some sorts but not sure if that applies to IUI's. I have not tried Clomid as I have no way to get any and I can't see how useful that would be considering Mark's swimmers, or lack there of, are the problem. But I guess maybe giving them more targets would make sense but we have to wait to see a dr at Heartland before even trying since no one here will prescribe Clomid. I'm guessing since we have a sperm count problem they'll be doing an SA right off the bat, which is what I'm looking forward too. Simply because they probably have a better lab for doing this. Since I ovulate on my own regularly, I guess trying a clomid IUI cycle would probably be where we would start. Does anyone know about what the cost for clomid is? I know in the States its fairly cheap and can a regular GP prescribe clomid, as that's the only dr I have right now. We live in a small town and the only dr's here are GP's. It's really surprsing how expensive injects are and I can't see why we would need them at this point.

Our uro brushed us off after our last SA. It really sucked. The very first one we had done the lab screwed up and lied about what time they checked it and marked it with 0% motility, which wasn't true as we look at the little guys here at home and have seen them swimming. And they said they checked the sample at 2pm and we only dropped it off at 2:15pm. We were a bit angry. So we went to another lab the next month and all was good there, very efficiant. And then around 9 months post reversal, we had another SA done and that came back pretty much the same as the second. But because we had, had three SA's done the uro said we couldn't have the one year SA done, we had used up our three. I was so confused. I said to them so many times the first one doesn't count since they screwed up!!! They then said I could call at the one year mark and ask them if they would be willing to do another but to be honest I don't care to call or talk to them again. It's like they just wanted our $5K and then passed us off on the fertility clinic. They weren't even willing to check bloods on Mark to see if the low production is from hormones. And I know plenty of couples in our position that have use other meds to get things moving with great success. But nope, the uro won't even consider it. So here we are waiting to get into Heartland and religiously taking vits in the hopes that it will happen on its own while we wait. Which it very well could since its a reversal and counts can take up to a year and a half to be at their peak.

Anyways, I've written a small novel now, lol.

Dexter, I try to use the same screen name everywhere I go, lol.

welcome!!

So, your question is how much is clomid?

I have no clue, but if you can try the clomid before IVF or IUI , I do know it is much cheaper.... Sorry not much help... But good
luck to you!!

Clomid cost me I think about 60 bucks a cycle or so! It was so long ago I don't remember.

Depending how bad the sperm issue is they usually won't suggest iui but go straight to ivf. I guess it depends on the count.

I didn't realize you had to pay to see a urologist.

Thanks for the input. Do you need to see an RE about getting clomid?

We didn't have to pay to see a urologist we had to pay for a vasectomy reversal. The vasectomy was the dumbest thing we ever did. Our counts aren't too bad and morph has increased dramatically and truthfully we just simply cannot afford IVF. IUI is our only option at this point. So at this point we are only dealing with low counts. Our two sa's had 22.5 million swimming and the second was 14.04 million swimming. Does anyone know if that's enough for IUI??

Thanks for advice. I don't have a gyno so I guess we'll have to wait till we get in at HL. Which sucks. I only have a GP, actually that's all we have here. More waiting!!
