Hi everyone!

I have a quick question that I forgot to ask my doctor.

I'm preparing for IVF #2...and after an crappy first round...I want to make sure there is nothing I should be doing differently than last time regarding my injections and the sites.

This may be a dumb question...but...here goes.

I'm a plus size girl. I know to give myself injections (which I won't be starting for another month) approximatly 1-inch below the belly button along the area of my abdomen.

I wonder though, since it appears I had a poor response to one of my meds last time, whether it could be because I have extra weight around my mid-section/abdomen...and if there is better spots to inject.

I have a picture of my belly from IVF#1 (I can't get it any smaller) and where I was injecting (I bruise easily, so you can kinda see the pink and purple blotches on my lower belly)...

Am I doing it right? Will my surface weight interfere with how the meds are received in my body?

I know myself I have a little extra weight around the middle. My clinic told me that as long as it is delivered subcutaneously it will get to where it needs to go Posted Image My rule of thumb was needle in, press the plunger to the count of 7, leave it in for an extra 5 count, then pull it out and immediately rub the area gently with a Kleenex. It spread the medication out to avoid leakage through the injection site. Below the belly button bruises less easily than above (lots of little blood vessels there) and we also injected to the lower left side, then the lower middle the next night, then the lower right the next night to give those injection sites a bit of a break. Also, if you pinch the area firmly before injecting (but not to the point of pain), it hurts and bruises less.

Good luck! I hope this cycle brings you a sticky BFP!

Hmm..this is interesting. I did the injections all over my tummy. I think I carry most of my heavy weight in the lower half of my stomach...especially now with a little bit more fluffy stuff thanks to my last pregnancy. I did most my infections in the upper half of my stomach right above my belly button. Sometimes in the centre, sometimes on the left and right side..always rotating.

I don't think your "fluff" will interfere with anything. I have some fluff on my abdomen as well and didn't have any issues. I was told i could inject in the thigh but i didn't like it, found it awkward and i always ended up pulling a bit on the needle when it was coming out, ouch! I found the right and left side lower abdomen to be the easiest with the least amount of discomfort, i found the middle under my belly button to hurt a lot. Good luck!
Me (Kerri-Lyn) 41, DH (Steve) 37, TTC since April 2007Unexplained IF (possibly crappy eggs, AMH 10.4 = poor responder) - HSG, SHGx3, Lap, Cycle Monitoring, Recurrent loss bloods, EMB, Karyotyping, DNA Frag - all normal! 7 IUI's, 2 cancelled IVF's, 3 complete IVF's, 1 FET, 2 clinics, 1 early miscarriage, lots of debt, lots of heartache, lots of tears. We rolled the dice and got lucky on our last ditch "close the door" cycle and have a beautiful little girl. April 2014 - Had the crazy notion to try for another. Shocked with a BFP, miscarried @ 8W6D. See my "about me" page for more cycle details.

I certainly have plenty of fluff and stims worked out ... I was actully thankfull for the fluff 'cause it hurt less to inject into the fluff.

Thanks everyone!

For the injection site, I was actually told to only inject BELOW the belly button, and to rotate between left, middle and right sides since I'm a bruiser :)
I also usually "gently" massage the injection site for a few minutes, followed by an ice cube relieft minute.
I wonder why they stipulated the below belly button part?

I agree that the middle, under the belly button...owie! Not sure if you can see in the picture (I know what I'm looking at, so its easy for me) but..I was doing the below belly button and rotating...hence the pink and purple points in a row! I tried the thigh too and found it too awkward and sensitive.

I'm glad to hear you're all pretty much in agreement that my extra lovin' won't hinder the absorption or success of the shot!

I was relieved when I read the actual post because my eyes were playing tricks and I thought the title said "muff" affeting the infections - I was trying to figure out what the heck you were doing lol

I am a curvy girl too and I did my shots anywhere below my belly (no closer then 1 inch to my belly button) - I bruised but I think it was because I was on blood thinners.

Please see "about me" section for details

HILARIOUS! I can only imagine what you must have thought! LOL Hope you got a chuckle out of it once you realized I was only referring to my more Robust body areas! LOL
