Hi Everyone,

You've been super helpful, and I'm so grateful for the support I'm getting from this forum - it is really helping me out tons. I feel bad, that I have yet another question...

We are paying for everything out of pocket, so I would like to buy the IVF meds online as I understand this can mean a big saving. I read on another thread that some people use http://www.ivfmeds.com/ or http://www.ivfpharmacy.com/ to order their fertility drugs.

Please could anyone who has used http://www.ivfmeds.com/ or http://www.ivfpharmacy.com/ or another online pharmacy let me know what you think of them? (e.g. delivery times, customer service, cost vs Canadian pharmacy, tips etc)

Also, how long in advance do you get the prescriptions from the doctor in order to buy the meds? Once I'm on the IVF wait list will the RE write the prescriptions so I can get in the drugs, or do I have to wait until I'm called? Since this will be short notice, and possibly too short notice to get the drugs from Europe (N.B. We are with Foothills, Regional Fertility Program in Calgary).

Finally, where do you buy the needles, alcohol swabs, shaps box or other non-drug medical equipment needed? Is there somewhere online to buy this cheaply or is the IVF clinic pharmacy the best place? I've never priced these types of things up, so don't have a clue how much they cost in terms of whether price varies much.

Thank You,

I bought meds through IVFmeds.com...didnt have any problems and was very happy with their service. A few hours after I faxed my prescription over, a rep called me to go over my order and make payment etc. He had a bit of an accent but I still understood him. The only thing was, the Bravelle they use doesnt come with a q-cap vial, where you attach the meds. It comes with a little glass vial that you are supposed to snap open. I wasnt comfortable with doing that, so I just got some q-cap applicators from my clinic. My clinic also provided all my needles, swabs etc. I think it took about 2 weeks to get here. Cant remember for sure, but it did arrive a few days earlier than I anticipated.

I used ivfmeds.com & I recommend them. What dexter229 described was my same experience with them.

I didn't mind snapping the tops of the little glass jars.
You can get needles, swabs, etc. from your clinic likely, or the pharmacy that your clinic usually uses, probably for free or a few dollars.

My only concern with ivfmeds which my local pharmacy pointed out to me, was that they don't have any temperature control to keep the packages at the temperature that they are supposed to be kept at all times. They are usually supposed to be kept cool, but depending on the time of year, I was concerned that it could be sitting in a freezing warehouse or truck when it's -40 here, or similar if it's hot in the summertime. I asked them to label the package accordingly i.e. "do not freeze" or "keep cool" but they labeled the inside, and it got covered with packaging. I would ask them to include that in the package instructions label.

Not sure how much notice your clinic gives you on the prescription, but let me know if you find out as we are going for a consultation in Calgary this spring & I'd be interested to find that out as well.
