Did they tell you to rest for a couple of days or just go on as usual?

You can get a medical note to get 2 weeks off from work if you want/need! I havent returned back to work since having my son so no rest for me lol. Usually I lie down at the clinic for 20 mins after the transfer but this time I just peed and left. The cycles before my son I always took it easy for a few days after transfer but no such thing now lol so just went on as usual!

How is your cycle going, when is your transfer

Pale and Andrea, sounds like your young ones really keep you busy! Andrea, glad you might be able to get a little more sleep now, Haha ;)

Thx Pale for the doctor's note info.

AFM, I'll have Day l2 scan on Monday.
What time does the clinic open for scans and if you go early is it first come first served or strictly based on appt time?

Thx again!

Highest hopes it is based on appointment times, but as you will have noticed there is always a wait! I think they open at 7 or 8am. Often in the morning even to sign in at reception there is a 20mins wait! Its not abnormal to have a 1hr wait for your appointment!! Bring a book!!!

Thx Pale!

Question about transfer. Do they give any sedation meds?

Also just to confirm - they said to do an extra dose of progesterone (in my case shots) the morning of the transfer, at least 2 hrs prior. Is that consistent with what everyone else is doing? Just curious.

Hope you're feeling well Pale, and everyone else.

Thx :)

Highest Hopes - They don't give any sedation meds for transfers. For me i was in and out in under 10 minutes pain free. As for retrieval ( for me ) Nothing they gave me worked not even a little it was horrible...

Wishing you the best =)

Oh you had your transfer already! Glad to hear it went well, hope you have a stressfree 2ww and get a BPF on your beta!!!!!!!

Were you at the clinic by any chance on Saturday picking up the consent forms? I was waiting for my beta test and overheard a couple next to me asking the nurse, they mentioned they came from Alberta?

As for me...beta was negative. Wasnt really a surprise as I had taken a test a few days earlier and it was neg and also my period started the morning of my beta. Oh well. At least I still have five more frozen embryos to try. For some reason Dr Demirtas isnt taking any appointments until July (did she have a baby? I thought she looked quite preg last time I saw her but I didnt want to ask in case I was wrong..) so I was able to get an appointment with another Dr for next week to schedule my calendar. Hopefully there wont be a terribly long wait....

Hi Ladies,

I'm new to this forum.

Like everyone else, I'm hoping for miracles to happen.

I'm going for my ultrasound tomorrow morning for the heartbeat of the baby.

I'm so scared and worried and paranoid but I'm hoping to hear our angel's heartbeat.

Goodluck everyone!

Hi Ladies,

It's been so long I haven't been on, nice to see new faces here =)

Congrats to the newly Pregnant Momma's , Wishing everyone else all the best xo

AFM - Things are going well. Nathaniel is 15 months now, walking/running with a mouth full of teeth. He sleeps his nights in his crib (10 hours ) and hates mom and dad's bed =D. There won't be any more babies for me :-( I'm sure i posted this a while ago but Dr recommends i don't take a chance. ( I still have 2 frozen embryo's) It was a hard pregnancy and even harder c section. I still wanna come check up on you all and see how everyone is.

Praying you all receive your miracles <3

The clinic has moved since and is no longer at the Old Royal Vic - I don’t know the exact answer, but could you just ask the pharmacist at e.g. Jean Coutu? They for sure take old medication and I would assume needles as well

Hi dancingcottie, I saw your post at MFC and here. I used to cycle at both clinics (luckily I got my miracle since then) and agree with your impression on MFC being very conservative in their protocol without much change. After a miscarriage through IVF and not much input on what to change for a potential next try I switched to McGill and successfully got pregnant there soon after. McGill is more chaotic than MFC, because much bigger and you need to be on top of your own file, however I can highly recommend them (that being said I have friends that successfully got pregnant in both clinics, but for me McGill appeared more advanced in their options. Good luck!

Unfortunately I don't have anything good to say about McGill. My experience has been extremely disappointing with them. It's a big chaotic, disorganized place where too many people (unfamiliar with your medical file) get involved, and this creates a lot of room for error. I also should mention that because of the high volume of clients, the receptionists and other administrative staff are very snappy and disrespectful with patients. I have felt like a burden on them every time I set food in that clinic.

At your first appointment with the RE, you'll be given a standard "trial and error type" protocol plan. Because the REs work part time and in rotation, you'll likely never see your RE again. During treatment (stims), the ultrasounds are done by fellows who are unfamiliar with your file and unable to answer questions. On day 8 of your stims, after your ultrasound, some staff doctor (you'll never find out who) supposedly reviews your file and asks the nurse to call you in the afternoon with the GO or NO GO decision to trigger. You are never given the opportunity to ask questions to the doctor. Your egg retrieval is done by whoever is on call that day.

I had pretty devastating results and I completely attribute this to the poor oversight of my medical file. It's only after my egg retrieval that I found out (through requesting my chart) that I had not responded properly to the stims and I should have never been triggered. My cycle should have been canceled. I guess it's very lucrative for them to have you go for a second cycle. I have lost complete trust in this place. It's a big, chaotic, disorganized and impersonal factory with complete disregard for patients' emotions (and finances). I have since switched clinics and I feel very much well taken care of now.

Unfortunately this has been our devastating experience, too. We currently have a file open with the Ombudsman.

Can I ask where you switched to?

I switched to MFC. I see that you were there initially! Did you have a bad experience at MFC? I haven't started my treatment there, but I prefer the warm and personal approach that the doctors offer at the MFC over the chaotic nonsense that I witnessed at McGill.

What I have learned in the last few months is that IVF is not a straight forward recipe. It's a fine art, whereby the doctors' talent and dedication and flexibility directly contributes to the end result. The doctor needs to be on top of your file and monitor you every step of the way, while adjusting and personalizing the plan according to how you are responding. If not, things go haywire just like they did at McGill.

IVF treatments are pretty much all the same across all clinics. The difference is that patients need to be carefully monitored and adjustments made during treatment. For that to happen, doctors also need to have the medical judgement to cancel a cycle before egg retrieval if they feel that it will result in a failed cycle.

At McGill, I felt completely abandoned and I don't think anyone cared to look at my chart the entire time that I was stimming. Knowing when to call the "trigger" shot is an art as well, it required a great deal of familiarity with your file. If any of those steps are not done properly, then it's a guaranteed failure. I feel that McGill is too big and too chaotic, no one has the time to give you a personalized medical care, and no one give a rat's behind about how you're reacting to the protocol until it is too late.

Hi again,

Yes, we were there first, and agree the warmth and personal care is much better.  The challenge we had is that we found the Dr didn't want to deviate from a standard script when it came to protocol, and I was not responding to standard protocols.... when pushed, he told us he would "do whatever we wanted", which in all honesty is why we switched, we came for a Dr's expertise, and felt like the onus was being put on us to find a solution, so we left.

While everything you say about McGill is (horrifyingly) true, we do have a Dr there who dug deep, researched, and came up with a little known protocol that hasn't been used in 12 years at the clinic - the only one I have responded to, and we do now have 2 Day 3 embryos frozen.  I still hate everything about McGill, and would caution anyone to make a very careful consideration before choosing to go there, but I can't speak too badly of my specific Dr.
