Good morning ladies,

As promised some days ago, I share now what my doctor told me about this next cycle.

We had the WTF appointment some days before Nov 11  and from that appointment we left with our prescriptions and the calendar booked to start our second IVF cycle. Event thought I bought the medicines after  November 11,  I’m still covered for this coming cycle.

At the beginning they said that if you don’t have the medicines already in your hands before November 11 you were not covered. Later, they were a little more “flexible” on this and they explained it in a press release on November 19, they posted it on the web page of the clinic.

Unfortunately, the decisions on this are not in the doctor’s hands, it is the government.  My doctor was really sad about his patients, I could see it in his face.

Some examples that I was told while talking to other ladies there:

If you are covered on this cycle and you get frozen embryos and you transfer one and get pregnant but unfortunately you had a miscarriage after some weeks…  the later transfer of those frozen embryos are probably not covered. I couldn’t believe that because those embryos were part of the same cycle but apparently it is not like that anymore.

Also someone said that if you go to the first appointment and you set a plan with your doctor but before starting the protocol you have to do some tests that have to be revised by the doctor with you before the starting date of the protocol, well ..not covered either.

I left the clinic that day happy for me but sad for many others. Happiness is never complete.

Hey Tina , congrats, and merry Xmas!!!

I would be interested in the Crinone.. I am starting my first cycle of ivf in January, and since we just missed the cut off for funded cycles, everything will be OOP, and saving even a little bit on the meds would really help! If you want to email me directly, my email is [email protected] . Com .. Without spaces, of course :)

Hi Highest Hopes: after FET, you can resume activities. In my case,I took it easy, stay hydrated and warm. And I actually took the 2 weeks off that you are entitled to and focused only on my pregnancy. Our little miracle was born on Dec 17th and we're so in love with her😍😍😍

Hey guys...I have been at the clinic since 2010, you think I would know this by now LOL!

When starting a fresh IVF cycle, is it mandatory that the first ultrasound be on day 2 or 3..does it make a difference if its day 4?? I am feeling my period might start early on Friday, but I was planning to go out of town on Friday night and wont be back till Sunday. So is it ok to do my ultrasound on Monday or should I cancel my trip???

Thanks!!

Hi PaleSpring,

New to this forum, but been with the clinic for a few yrs now. I think that they don't do ultrasounds over the weekend anyway so I believe it would go to Monday, but I am not 100% sure.

By the way, does anyone know if day 2-3 ultrasounds at the beginning of a cycle are done at the old RVH site or at the Glenn?

I have to go in for my ultrasound tomorrow and totally forgot if the ultrasound has relocated.

Thanks!

Ysmile, everything for the reproductive centre is still at the old RVH site. You only need to go to the Glenn if you need to get bloodtests done (not the bloodtests that are done with the scans when you are cycling, those are still done bu the nurses on the 6th floor. I mean the tests for medical your records that used to be done on the 2nd floor). So yes, you need to go to the RVH for your scan!

Regarding my question, its actually funny because it seems even they dont know themselves! I called a nurse to ask and she said yes, if period starts Friday then I must come Saturday and Monday is too late. Only if my period starts Saturday or Sunday then I show up Monday am with no appointment. But when my period started Friday and I called to book a scan for Saturday, the receptionist was very confused and said they never start a cycle with a Saturday scan its always a Monday scan, but since the nurse told me to come Saturday she booked it anyways

Hi ladies...has been really quiet here, dont know if people are still following....I just wanted to share that after March 15th, the government will no longer be funding the fertility drugs that all insurances were obliged to cover ever since the gov funding started. So if you have a cycle scheduled to come up soon and already received your prescription, the nurses are encouraging everyone to just buy all your drugs now so you will at least save a few thousand dollars in case your insurance doesnt cover it anymore

Looks like it may have already happened, at least in my case - I had to pay out of pocket for Endometrin back on Friday. I'm going to try and get an exemption in to my insurance company by Friday, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm thankful that this is the only drug needed for my last FET on Thursday...

Me: 40 (38 when started ART) DH: 39

Male factor, low everything including less than 1% morphology, and of course my age. Never been pregnant. TTC since age 36, but not really careful for many years before this. Due to age and severe male factor, went straight to IVF/ICSI. No idea if tubes are blocked.

Sept 2013 - IVF/ICSI #1 - Short protocol - 7 retrieved, 4 mature, 2 fertilized, 3dt of one good looking 8 celled embryo. BFN
Dec 2014/Jan 2015 - IVF/ICSI #2 - Microdose Flare - 16 retrieved, 7 mature, 6 fertilized, 2 good looking blasts frozen, 1 3d embryo transferred - BFN
April 2015 - FET #1 - chemical (hcg 13.4 at 11dp5dt, less than 5 at 13dp5dt)
July 2015 - FET #2 - BFN
Oct 2015 - IVF/ICSI #3 (last try) - Microdose Flare - 9 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, 5 fertilized. Two 8-celled (but quite fragmented) embryo's transferred day 3 - BFFN. Somehow one of embies made it into a 4AB blast and is frozen
Mar 2016 - FET #3...I just want this to be done either way so we can move on...

Eraantlight, your insurance should pay you back as long as it was purchased before March 15th. If you need it, you can get a form from the pharmacist to send to them. Hope your transfer went perfectly on Thursday and that you are PUPO now! Wishing you a stressful and quick 2ww and a lovely BPF at your beta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck

I just picked up 3 months worth of endometrin this weekend, in hopes that I get pregnant and will need it for 10 weeks. I will go in for my first scan this week and have my FET in a few weeks hopefully!!

Destiny, glad things are well (from your post back in January - lol!).  When you mentioned the 2 weeks off that you are entitled to, do you mean the 2ww?

Tina, when is your c-section scheduled for?

Pale Spring, Ysmile, Errantlight - truly hoping that your cycles went well…

Questions about antibiotics for FET:
-What day of a FET cycle do we start antibiotics and is it for one week?
-Does the male partner take antibiotics also?

Thanks

Wel, today is my Day 1. Did baseline scan at my home clinic and they said I was good to go for FET.
The fax got to McGill around 1:30. I just called to follow up but the nursing line had just closed.
I hope they will call me! The voicemail said they would but Im nervous. Should I try calling the main line?

My cycle went like this: first scan at day 3 and then started Estrace three times a day. Second scan on day 14 and then started Doxy twice a day and Medrol once a day and my transfer is tomorrow

No the male partner doesnt take antibiotics...his part is now all done lol

Yay thats great! Hope you were able to get in touch with them!! Good luck for your cycle!! When is the next scan, whats your protocol

I have also been playing phone tag with them today so frustrating. My phone broke so I called them yesterday to give them my husband's number and asked them to call me on that number to let me know the timing for my transfer tomorrow (they call you the day before to give the timing). The receptionist on the phone totally didnt sound like she knew anything and of course today I waited all day for a call on my husband's cell and didnt receive any and then from 3pm onwards I was trying to call them couldnt reach anyone!!! So now I have no clue what time to go in tomorrow. Most of the time its after 11am but last time they asked me to come at 8:30am and I live off island so am nervous about making it through rush hour traffic if I do need to be there early. Will give them a call again in the morning and hopefully everything will go smoothly tomorrow!!!!!! Eeepp!!

Hi Pale, thx a million for your reply today - it truly felt so comforting to read your message and know that I was not alone out there trying to get through on their phones! (Not that I wish it on anyone of course!) I had the same experience from 4-6pm - unable to get through to the main line whatsoever. Though it was my own fault in the first place as my fax got there late and I didn't call the nurses line on time, all due to a 2 hr time difference. I ended up calling the doc on call. I felt bad but I did it, and it was Dr. Dahan. He was So nice, and we sorted it out quickly.

I feel bad for you not knowing what time your appt is. I hope if it's later that you are able to catch some more zzzs before you have to go in! Best of luck with your transfer tomorrow, I hope it goes smoothly. Do you know which doc will be doing it?

Thx also for the protocol info!

I called this morning and they told me to come in for 9am and transfer will be at 10am. Things were a bit hectic and late so ended up having the transfer at 11:30am. It was done by my doctor, Dr Demirtas, she always gets me scheduled for transfer when she is in the OR so she can do it herself --she has magic hands! Everything went smoothly and beta in two weeks!

Glad you got your cycle sorted out!! Hope it goes smoothly for you and a BFP at the end!!!! Is it your first FET

Pale, glad it all worked out. Even if it wasn't on schedule. Hope it went smoothly!

Yes it's my first FET and it's actually with frozen eggs not embryos so my partner still needs to do his thing and then they need to fertilize them.
Do you know the usual protocol for men for IVF re: antibiotics? I think it would be the same for him in this case. Do you know when that usually starts?

Agh... forgot to take my Estrace this morning and my afternoon dose was late as well.  I also started Femara last night.

Does anyone know the recommended advice, i.e. take the missed dose or skip it?

Thanks

I was told if its too close to the next dose then skip it but if there is enough time to continue with the rest then take it when you remember. To be honest I have always missed an Estrace here and there and when I told the doctor he was like thats ok. If you have a hard time remembering it can also help to write down your meds schedule and put it somewhere you see it often so you wont forget

Do you know the usual protocol for men for IVF re: antibiotics? I think it would be the same for him in this case. Do you know when that usually starts?

My husband never had to take any meds at all for any of our cycles, he just gave his sperm sample on the day of egg collection and thats it on his part. Our diagnosis is unexplained. Did your Dr mention antibiotics for for your partner? Did he get a prescription form when you got your calendar made? If you only got the prescription form for your meds then I would guess he doesnt have to take anything. If he is taking Doxy then it might be twice daily for 7 days, at least thats what its always been for me

Thanks so much Pale for the info.

I won't worry about the missed dose - that's a relief!

No they never mentioned antibiotics for him, but at our other clinic they did prescribe antibiotics for him when we did IVF so I am just wanting to make sure nothing was missed ;)

Hope you're feeling well since your transfer.  Did they tell you to rest for a couple of days or just go on as usual?
