Wondering if anyone has ever been called earlier than expected for IVF treatment at Heartland?
Hi , Yes I was. I was not expecting to get called until March 2011 and received a call in December for a January cycle. Just completed my cycle and am in my 2ww for beta testing on Tuesday.

I started the BCP with my December cycle , right on Christmas day. Started Suprefact on Jan. 15, ultrasound on 18th everything quiet so I started on Bravelle and Menopur on the 18th. Then bloodwork started. I had 4 ultrasounds the week of Jan. 24th to check on follicle growth, on the Mon, Tuesday, thursday and Friday. We saw about 15 follicles between the 2 ovaries and retrieval was scheduled for Dec. 30th. I only got 4 eggs, I was quite disappointed as I was hoping for more with that many follicles but I got 4 and 3 fertilized. We planned to transfer all three on Feb. 2nd but one did not continue to divide , so we transfered two 8 cell embryos. Now I am in the middle of that dreaded 2 week wait for beta testing.
The staff at the clinic have absolutely wonderful throughout the whole experience. I have to admit that I was glad I took the week of retrieval and transfer off , as I felt very uncomfortable with some pain and cramping for most of the week. The worst part of this whole process is this wait.

Wow! I'm really surprised they called you early. I'm thinking that with Heartland's ridiculous wait times, couples are maybe opting to travel out of province now to cycle? I myself am considering going on an ivf vacation (www.passportmedical.com), instead of waiting. I haven't made up my mind but its an option. I'm #85 out of 180 women waiting to cycle. Grrrr...

I recently completed a cycle in the States (2ww ugh), my last cycle here was in August/September. The wait time is dramatically different and I have to say, although I really like my Doctor here, the service, explanations and treatment all felt so much more professional.

I've been looking elsewhere as well. I've found some good deals in Mexico and I even found a site in NY that has pretty good rates for IVF with ICSI and FETs covered for a year included. Both options work pretty well for me.
Where were you thinking of going to cycle?
BTW I'm probaby number 180

www.passportmedical.com They do IVF vacations in Costa Rica/Panama. It costs $6500 which includes the ivf and lodging. That doesn't include flights or meds, but I'm told meds are very inexpensive there.

I'm not sure how many women they do at a time? Good question! I remember the day I went for my egg retrieval, there were around 6 couples. That would actually be a good question to ask over the phone. I'll get back to you on that.
I notice in your signature that you are going to have surgery to fix your tube? Do you know what they are going to do? I really wanted to try some kind of tubal surgery, but I want to see first if I have a hydrosalpinx. I have an HSG on March 15. I asked for a lap, but he wants to see the outcome of the HSG first. *sigh* I hate waiting.

My SO and I talked tonight (more so I talked he listened) and I think that if we do end up going to IVF (we are going to try IUI first) and if it doesn't work on the first cycle I will put my name back on their list but look at going somewhere else while waiting. Ideally I would like to have two children, we don't have any right now, so I really don't think I can afford to waste time waiting.
As for my surgery to fix my tube **FX**. My blockage was caused by a surgery to remove a 7cm cyst, when they did the biopsy after they found tubal matter. Dr. Lee seems to think that it may have adhered itself to something else in my abdomen. I should have asked what makes him think this, but you know how it goes at appointments, you're so overloaded with info you only think of the good questions after you leave. Did your DR ever suggest whether they could try to fix your blockage? I really hope that they would be able to. I think maybe they want to get the HSG done first to see how blocked they are. Have you had an HSG since your ectopic? Another thing that I am considering, if he doesn't think he can fix mine is Essure. I saw it on the boards, it's a clamp used for birth control. I figure that even if I don't have fluid in there now if they can't fix it I may get some later which can interfere with IVF.
Did you get any answers on the # of women who cycle there monthly? If you don't find out I can ask when I call in my CD01, which should be in the next two or three days.

Going for CD3 bloodwork tomorrow. Still waiting to hear about HSG.
One month is basically gone since my appointment. Hopefully only a minimum of 8 to go!
Isn't progress in your journey great! It makes me feel so much better when I have answers.
We should be pretty close in our cycling! I registered February 11th, when did you register again?
Are you going to try IUI first, or straight to IVF?

What a rewarding career! I admire you.
The reference to fruit must be taught in med school, because when I had my cyst they kept telling me it was the size of a grapefruit. If you are having discomfort because of the adhesion they should operate. Personally I would say it causes discomfort while BD-ing, for some reason even if you are not TTC that seems to make things more important. As far as your tubes, I know that Dr. Lee told me that you need the end of the tube (closest to the ovary) for the egg to get down it. He said that the ends have almost fingers and that if my blockage is there he most likely will not be able to fix it.
I have probably had 6 appointments since my first in the middle of October. Possibly because he's still trying to diagnose me. I am close to going crazy though. He never told me that Clomid could lengthen my LP even if I don't have a LPD! I'm @ 16 DPO and no sign of the hag. I just want to start my new cycle. My cycles keep getting shorter, when I started temping 2+ years ago they were 33-38 days in the past six months they are down to 28-32 so I don't know if I should test. With the results from my CD12 U/S I really have no hope, but this is going to make me nuts!

As for my career, yes it is rewarding but REALLY tests my sanity every day. I constantly question WHY I became a teacher and is it worth it. LOL this is my 9th year teaching and every year I say I'm going to find a new career. I always come back. The good days far outweigh the bad... I love my students

Ugh. Clomid. LOL yeah I wasn't told that either when I first tried Clomid and the "pregnancy symptoms" were so convincing!! I figured I had got pregnant the first try! Do you know when you ovulated? I find that Clomid even made my O date further into my cycle (around cd 16-17). Wow!!! 6 appointments since October? I'm lucky if I see Dr. Lee 6 times a YEAR!! LOL! And holy moly!!! A grapefruit?? That's pretty big. Yes, I really regret not pushing the lap at our last appointment, because I fear that IF it's found through the HSG that I do need to remove a hydro (and I will INSIST on removing it before my next ivf) that it will push back my IVF date. UGH!!
As for my career, yes it is rewarding but REALLY tests my sanity every day. I constantly question WHY I became a teacher and is it worth it. LOL this is my 9th year teaching and every year I say I'm going to find a new career. I always come back. The good days far outweigh the bad... I love my students
I haven't really had any PG symptoms, but I decided to take a test, because usually after I waste that money the hag shows. I O'd on CD 16 and I'm 17DPO. I stopped charting for a while, but DR. Lee is making me do it again. When I was charting before my LP was around 15 to 16 DPO. My cycles have gotten a couple of days shorter since then, but without charting I'm not sure if I have had a shorter LP or if I O sooner. Yup that cyst was a SOB, it was not fun. I found out about it during a M/C so it was emotionally painful as well because I associated it with the M/C because the DR's told me it was a 'product of conception'. It took me almost a year to have them remove it. They tried at first to aspirate it with a needle on an internal U/S but it kept 'jumping'. I think the process that they used is similar to egg retrieval, from what I've read. I just hope that if I do move to IVF they are a bit more gentle than that procedure was. Eventually they did the lap that cut out part of my tube.
I think I've been in to see Dr. Lee so much because of all of the test results, HSG, SA, Swim up SA, CD 3 and 21 BW, Clomid monitor and now I have another appointment scheduled for my pre-op, my pap (I need one every 6 months, pretty much have since I was 14), and I will have to make a CD 12-14 appointment for my Femera cycle. It is a lot of appointments! I know I shouldn't complain, at least I am getting in to see him. Did you have a lot of appointments when you first started going?
Hopefully there is a way that you can get your surgery early, call and make an appointment to see him and tell them that it is really uncomfortable and that surgery is best for you sooner rather than later. He put my name on the list at my first appointment and I'm having it done at the end of March, that's almost a 6 month wait. Did you look into that Essure product?
Grade 9, wow I remember that. You are a saint for going to work every day if any of your students are as bull headed as I was at that age!

Ok, yeah that's about right (for my 2 first laps). When I had my ectopic, of course it was emergency surgery and booked the next day after the u/s. No, I haven't looked at Essure... I'll google it.

The test was a . AF still hasn't come yet today though.
So the good news is that I got a call from the clinic today, bad news is my SO didn't tell me until 6 hours later when they were closed. It was Sue??? I think this may be the call for my IUI cycle! She said it wasn't urgent and to get back to her within the next week. Are you serious??? I'm calling as soon as they open tomorrow! I'm just a bit concerned that it may end up being for my April cycle, which may be too close to my lap. I guess I'll check with Dr. Lee or ask her to check with him.

I'm also surprised by the number of appointments some of you have had at the clinic. I had my first ever appointment in Feb. Now I've been doing the blood work and waiting on the HSG. I figure once I get those results, we'll do a conference call for results. Then I don't imagine I'll be going back to the clinic until it's time to start IVF stuff. Am I wrong?

Oooh, let us know what the call was about!!! Starting IUI would be so exciting! I need to live vicariously through others about now. I was disappointed to read that it's likely a 10 month wait for IVF. I really wanted to be pregnant in 2011 and I'm now seeing this as highly unrealistic, if not impossible.

I will let you know what it is she called about. I really have my everything crossed!
When is your HSG? If you live in the city, you will probably go in to discuss the results. If you already have your HSG scheduled I would make sure that you do have your follow up appointment. The sooner you try to book the more likely that he has availability.
I have had a lot of appointments. Papoose76 did say that she had a lot as well when she first started seeing Dr. Lee. I think I may have extras because of my lap. As well I knew before I ever went to him that I did have a tubal issue. That's probably why I got scheduled for my lap right away.
I've looked back and tried to figure out what your IF diagnosis is, the only thing I can find is that
your DH had a vasectomy reversal with a low sperm count. Did you do an SA at their office or just a drop off at a lab? Did you get the results? When we did the SA at their lab they booked our appointment right then to come back in two or so weeks after to get the results. I remember that you were going to try to call? Can you do TESE and IUI? It would be nice since it is a lot shorter of a wait.
I thought I had written it somewhere, but who knows, I should be cycling with you if I move on to IVF. I registered on February 11th. Maybe we can give each other support through the long wait? And get our BFP's together!!!
