Has anyone else been told that Genesis never gives embryos a grade "A"? I was just wondering if I was told that to keep my spirits up and to help me stay positive about the transfer.

I heard the same thing, directly from an RE there. By July of last year they hadn't had an A embryo all year long, until just the week before. She said all they transfer are B's and C's, which are just great.

My embryo was a CB... They still did a sET and I became pregnant. I remember being really concerned about my embryo grade at the time but it all turned out. They told me at the transfer that they never give A's. Good luck!

In my fresh cycle I had two A-'s and a B+. They called the A-'s 'perfect' and I joked that they graded like English teachers (I teach math). That cycle gave me a BFN.
In my frozen cycle all my embryos were B's. Dr. H said that they had lots of pregnancies from B grade embryos. I was doubtful but one of these particular ones became my son.

In my first cycle almost 2 1/2 years ago, they transferred 2 A-'s. I think the lab has completely changed now though. they have a new embryologist and she/he doesn't give out A's anymore...or so I was told. I'm not sure if it depends on day 3 or day 5 transfer grades, but I was told that the letter grading is only based on appearance and that the majority of pregnancies come from B and C grade embryos.

Good luck with your current cycle!

In Aug. I transferred 3 embryos, 8A, 8B, 9B. The RE congratulated us and told us to prepare for multiples, that he had not seen embies this nice in a long time. We were celebrating and then BFN. I hope it goes better for you. But yes there is an A grade.

I had the same question about this - the handout that they had given about embryo development wasn't too clear about this. I called the lab and spoke with an embryologist about this. She said that "A"s are never really given (she'd only seen 1 so far).

I had an appointment the other day and Dr. Yuzpe said they don't give out A's. He said our embryos at Grade B (two 8 cells, one 7) were fantastic and that no A's are given out.

Hi, just thought I would update this. I had asked the question because we transferred an A blast and a B blast. I think there might have been two letters (AB and BB?) but I just remember the first letter. We got pregnant with twins and delivered two healthy baby girls 6 months ago.

I have only one frozen embryo left that s graded 4CC. On other forums; many have said that it a very poor quality. I recently did a FET cycle and they had to thaw 3 (transferred 2) because one didn't survive the thaw. Was devastated. They said there is only a 60% chance of any embryo thawing properly (other clinics use different means of freezing which gives better chances of thawing properly). Trying to decide if I want to try and transfer the one 4cc embryo and risk it not thawing. I live in SE BC so would have to travel to Vancouver and wouldn't know till we showed up for the transfer. Decisions, decisions. Really wish Genesis had a 'Premier Payment Plan' like so many other clinics do (Victoria offers it and I am thinking about switching clinics). The premier plan is a multiple cycle plan and their costs (and stats) are much better than Genesis. Have to travel for either one. Now to decide.

WaitingforBFP - I am facing the same dilemma as you. I have a 4CC, 3CC and a CB embryo left at Genesis. I honestly sometimes dont think i even want to try with them as we've got BFN's from a 4BB, and 2-4CB's. However, Dr Wise in Kelowna has stated to us that she has seen a number of successful pregnancies with this quality and that it is not always the best ones that take. It is a tough decision though. I do understand for you it adds another element of worry when there is just one left but based on just grade alone it sounds like from what Dr Wise has told me, it is worth a try!

Good luck to you with whatever decision you decide to make!

Thanks BCgirl. I also go to Kelowna Regional. Dr Wise told me the same thing about embryo qualities. Have talked it over with my dh and we will go through will our FET with our last embryo with Genesis come Spring (although Dr Wise wants us to try another fresh cycle). Don't want to drive on the Coquihalla in the winter. Dr Wise mentioned that they are starting to do intralipid treatments in Kelowna, so we will ask about that for the cycle. If it doesn't work; we will be switching clinics and going to VFC.
Good luck with your cycle.
