It's so nice to see some movement in this group. I always check and see, but I do t think ive ever posted.
Sunshine, I've seen you around other boards. Congrats on your 7w5d!
Sparkle fish, your a super strong women to not use HPT. When the time comes (June 27), I think I'll be the complete opposite!
I really need support for my journey, and think maybe since you are all single moms here, you can understand my situation a bit more.
I have three teens, then was blessed with my surprise mid life crisis baby 3 years ago. ( I jokingly say that as I was a full time work a holic and thought I was done having kids. At one point I was even told I couldn't have anymore due to a large ovarian cyst).
Anyway, on my babes 2nd bday, he was diagnosed with autism. I knew then I wanted a sibiling for him to grow with, and since I had my tubes tied after his delivery, IVF was my only choice.
Last year, 10 frosties were made from donor egg and donor sperm. Finally, my waiting will come to an end. (Fingers crossed)
I have to tell you I'm freaking out. Plane tickets are bought, hotel is booked, and meds, protocol, and tests are all inline. This is actually happening and I feel like backing out. Is this normal?
Do you worry about not having enough support being a single mom? Do you worry about finances? I am an emotional mess:(

Sunshine! thank you so much for the welcome, and I already am on the May FET--was just looking for the single mom thing here--most of them are partnered (maybe all?), so I thought this would provide something different for me! Thanks...! And congrats on your pregnancy!

Munchyfirst of all, Im AMAZED that you are already doing the single mom thing -- I could learn from YOU so much. but yes, this is my first, and I'm nervous at times about support. I've just sought out a few groups in LA (where I live--thought CA in this group was California not Canada, but i'm loving the Canadian support!) that are "single moms by choice" groups, but given that my beta is Monday, I'm awaiting knowing for sure, and that's hard too. My family lives in a different state, as do my best guy friends (who I'd hoped would be the male influences), so I'm going to seek out everyone I can to make that "village." Money is an issue too--i'm used to only financially taking care of myself, and already have cut back so I change my habits. I am self employed, so I will have  self imposed maternity leave, but I have already started doing FaceTime sessions with my clients to get them used to using my services that way. However, even with all that planning, I've gotta take it one day at a time. first I've gotta find out if the pregnancy is viable, then that it sticks, then that i make it through the first trimester, etc etc. So my main focus is: HEALTH and HAPPINESS! In terms of backing out, you already have a few children, so I get it-- maybe others who are in this position have more to add-- as for me, as never having been a mom, I feel such a strong impetus that I didn't hesitate much. Lastly, I've been amazed at how many people have wanted to help me lately when they find out what I'm doing--offering to help me find larger apartments, find more clients, etc. Of course, there are also the detractors (haters) who probably have issues with their own mothers or are repeating societal propaganda, and who feel the need to criticize/ask "helpful" questions that are really judgments. i've decided that those people will be given a couple chances and then won't be in my life any more in an active way.

munchy40 ~ I was just checking up on RNSurrogate last night and saw you are in the same FET group with her. Good luck with your upcoming FET, I'll be rooting for you!

sparkefish ~ Oh good, I'm glad you found the other support threads! Agreed, us single moms need all the support we can find and it would be great if this group stayed active.  And good for you to seek out the support of your friends and family, I'm so terrible at asking for help and I desperately need it at times.

I don't think people realize the challenge we face with wanting to become mothers  I'm self employed and when I started on this journey I was financially stable and working very hard but after my first FET ended in disaster I took some time off work to ensure the next one would go better. By the time I did the next FET I was doing some work from home which was perfect.  Unfortunately, DS came very early at 24w5d which put my work life on hold while I was in the hospital with him.  Fast forward to 2 years later and I had to get back out in the oil and gas "field" to build up a nest egg again and be prepared for the next self imposed mat leave.  Since January I've been on the road working with DS in tow (daycare) and since it was an 8 month project I figured it would fit perfectly if I do an FET in April and be done working in August/Sept.  Well I got unexpectedly laid off 2 weeks ago so now what?  I'm almost 8 weeks pregnant and unemployed.  I'm trying to find a short term project but there's the dilemma of do I tell or not?  Part of me thinks being self employed I don't need to tell and as long as I don't take a project that will go longer than I can. Anyway, just one of the many challenges we face as single moms.  Things have always worked out for me somehow and I'm sure this will too but I could do without the added challenges. Always when I think I have a plan in place and everything figured out...

Sunshine:  based on being self-employed and having strong opinions!: with clients, I always feel that sharing information is case by case. Pregnancy is your personal life, and is your business. If your pregnancy will not affect your work, there is no reason for them to know. How will that information further the professional dynamic? If you're going to be on the road with others however, they'll know relatively soon if you have another long term project, and at some point if your work is physically taxing, a conversation will need to happen. I don't know-- I work in the creative field, which in general the pregnancy won't affect, but also as  an actress --obviously the pregnancy affects that pretty seriously. But You need money. You need to support your little babe. So do what you need to. You can be ethical and private at the same time! also, i'm so sorry that you're in this position. I get it. I get the anxiety. It sounds like you have some mad skills, and will find another job soon. sending you not only healthy pregnancy vibes but growing material wealth vibes!!! x

sparklefish ~ thank you so much for your kind words and wise insight.  You're absolutely right, I don't need to disclose my status until such a time as it would affect my work and if I take on a shorter term project it should work out great barring any unforeseen complications.  I see from your signature that you got a bfn, I'm so very sorry. :(  This is such a rough and emotional road sometimes but perseverance is the key.  I hope you keep going and that your next cycle is the lucky one. xo

Itvixen ~ welcome! and congrats on your bfp!  If you're anything like the rest of the SMBC mama's here you will be great! The fact that you kept going after several bfn's is testament to your strength and perseverance so I fully believe you will handle anything that comes your way although I'm praying for an uneventful 9 months for you. :)  I hope you keep us posted how things are going.

AFM ~ I had a second u/s today and babe is measuring on track at 8w5d (CRL 21mm) with a hr of 163.  Over the moon!

Zamo no I live near Kelowna but cycled in Calgary however I may move to the Calgary area in the near future.

Update on me: currently 13 weeks and baby is doing great, had a preventative cerclage put in a couple days ago due to pre-term birth of DS.  Super hopeful I can go all the way with this LO. Much love to all.  I hope EOE is doing well.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum.  I am a single woman wanting to be a mom.  I am from Canada.  I am wondering if anyone know any good sperm donor bank website?  Is there any website where you can see the man's picture, so you can kind of choose which physical features you like for the donor sperm?  Thank you!
