Help Mom's!! I am interested in knowing if you own a Diaper Genie (I, II, Elite, etc) and whether or not you like it or could live without it? Our baby is due to arrive within the next few weeks and some people we have spoken too have said that it's a waste of money and you could still smell the stinky diapers, and others love them.

I am interested in your opinion???

Please help!

Thank you,

Christie

Hi Christie,

I have the Diaper Genie Elite, and I LOVE it! I find it really easy to use and easy to replace the liner refills. The only time I can smell the diapers through it is when it is full or there is a really stinky one that has been in there for a day or two. I like not having to wrap up each one after changing or taking the garbage out daily. The only downfall I found is that the liners are kind of expensive. The cheepest I have found is at Costco and it is $18.99 for 3. And they say that each refill should hold 80 diapers (I haven't counted to find out).
I don't think it's a "must have" but I really like mine.

Take care!

I too have the Elite and I love it. I love not taking out the garbage everyday. I have not found that I could smell the poopy diapers at all and I've also been using it on diapers with my daughter eating solids.....

Cost is an issue to consider and the refills are fairly expensive, that is a drawback for sure.

I have twins and have 2 diaper genies - one older one and one of the elite (I think). Love them both. I basically take out the diapers once a week and there is never a smell from either of them when they are closed.

My sister owned a diaper genie and just found it easier to put the diapers in her kitchen garbage can. If it was a poopy diaper she would wrap it in an old grocery bag. I remember when she was using them that it was kind of gross and smelly to change the bags.

I didn't use the diaper genie, but I purchased this pail and it works so well-and you can just use ordinary garbage bags saving the cost of pricey liners....I never found it to be stinky-I used it for my twin girls and will use again with these babies.

I love my diaper genie. I think I have the elite. While the refills are pricey, I like that they don't smell, and it's convenient for me anyways. I only have one for the two babies so we do chang it probably three times a week, but it holds lots and I find it doesn't smell. Love it.

Thank you ladies for all your responses, it really does help! I believe my dh won this discussion and he'll be buying a Diaper Genie tomorrow!!! If we decide it gets too costly, then we'll turn to the pail idea!

thank you again!

Hi! Mind if I leave my opinion too? (I know I'm late) If this is a factor for you, it might influence what model of Genie you buy. I originally wanted to buy the Elite because it holds more diapers, but it takes a different size refill than the Genie 1 or 2 - I live in a city, but not a major one and I found that most stores here were always out of the Elite refills but Costco and Walmart regularly stock the refills that fit the Genie 1 and 2 (they take the same size) Now, I could be wrong - they might make a standard refill now but they just didn't last year when I bought mine. Anyway, something you might want to just check into - if you live somewhere bigger, you probably wouldn't have trouble anyway, but just in case. That having been said, I used a Safety First handsfree diaper pail with my DD (it used regular garbage bags) and it didn't smell for the first little while, but once the little deodourizer wore out in it - look out! Man, it was awful. We switched to wrapping diapers in grocery bags and just using household garbage, but since my garbage is in the kitchen, I never really liked doing that. It still always stunk. When I started a family dayhome last year, I bought a Genie. I looked after 4 kids - babies through toddlers - every one of them in diapers and I can tell you - most of them seemed to hold in their BM's until they got to my house! I never had a problem with odour unless the Genie was packed full. And this was all ages, all different stages of eating and all different families, so we're talking "hard core" usage! It only takes a few seconds to change the bag and I do spritz a little lysol spray inside the unit when I change the bag, just to keep it really fresh. But for sure, I would recommend it. Oh, and I keep it in our smallest bathroom - no windows - if it smelled, I would really notice it! Good luck on the rest of your baby purchases. I am pretty confident that you won't be disappointed.

Thank you Wishuponastar! I love hearing everyone's opinion and ability to get the refills is definitely something to keep in mind. I do live in Edmonton, but still....something to consider and I appreciate that!

Keep the opinions coming!!

I have had the genie II for 16 months. I love it. Mine is mechanical (you have to push the diaper down the chute). I heard there's another genie where it gets sucked in automatically... Or maybe its the new genie II.

Oh, and just to clarify - I checked and the diaper genie 2 and the elite take the same size refills - it's the diaper genie 1 (the original old one, I guess) that takes different refills, so I think as long as you can get the 2 or elite refills, it doesn't matter which model you buy. Still, I think if I sent dh out to buy them, he'd come back with the wrong size! (murphys law). Just wanted to follow up for you so that you didn't have to hunt around worried about which refills fit which genie :) Good luck!

I need some help!

We've decided to register for a Diaper Genie - did the research a couple of months ago and chose this model:

http://www.toysrus.c...SeeEnabled=true

Its listed as he Diaper Genie Elite.  I figured since we'd registered for the genie we might as well throw some of the bags on the registry and for the life of me I cannot figure out which ones we need.  I've found bags for the Diaper Genie II Elite - is this the same thing?  I've looked all over the box posted on BRU and there is no II anywhere that I can see?!?

Any advise would be great.

thanks!
