You are provided with three IVF clinics to choose from and you know very little about them. A friend who knows these clinics well thinks one is way better than the others, but she has friends working at two of them and doesn't want to play favorites. This has caused you considerable frustration. You make a deal with her whereby you pick one and she tells you which of the remaining two she wouldn't recommend, but you still have to figure it out from there.

Clinic A
Clinic B
Clinic C

You pick clinic C. Your friend removes B, leaving you with the choice of staying on C or switching to A.

Are your odds of picking the best at 50-50 if you stay with C or do you improve your odds by switching to A?

For me Rick, I happened to choose what was close in proximity and where I was referred to by my GP. It happens to be a good clinic with their stats, to bad for the waiting list though. Needles to say that I will be faced with this question if round two of IVF should fail at this clinic. There after I will be choosing a clinic possibly in Europe according to cost and still proximity to a place where I can stay and cut down on accommodation cost. Most likely from the IVF.ca acquaintance whom had a successful out come and recommends the place.
All an all I think for most people is all about cost. And at the same time I can only speak for myself.

My two cents for what its worth.

Hi Kat. I hope it all works out second time around. Foothills sounds very busy, and as you said the cost is a big factor. I've heard a lot about IVF vacations just don't know anyone who has done it.

My post was just a little conundrum for our resident mathematicians to weigh in on.

I guess I did get that after my post and was going to post on that, lol. But I stopped myself.
There are a few people on this site whom traveled a broad. Per say not really as a vacation, but one can always see the fun in that.
Now I realize that I am not that mathematician at all you where hoping for to reply.lol

I know the answer but I've seen this problem before so I don't want to spoil it if someone else wants to try.

Tabby, I had a feeling you would know this one (actually quite certain).

Sam, another way of looking at this is:

You are given 3 random clinics to pick from. You randomly pick one. Your partner then looks at the remaining two and removes the one with the lowest pg rates. You can now stick with your original choice or switch to the one left on your friends side. Which decision will give you the best odds of selecting the clinic with the highest success rates?
