You're all moving forward gals! In Scotland on a family trip so this will be quick.

LP - twilight is what they offer everyone. Youare not completely under or out as with standard anesthesia...
me (43) & DH (48)
Our darling daughter, Charlotte, born Jan 19, 2010
Furbaby: Lily the dog

Our loooooong journey to parenthood (I keep this to remind me of all the steps along the way and hope it helps others):

  • Aug/05: Immune testing results: Heterozygous MTHFR, borderline APAs, high ATAs & TSH.
  • Sept/05: IVF #3 at SIRM: worst cycle ever! 7 retrieved, 6 fertilized, none to transfer due to embies arresting by day 3

  • Feb 13/09: Surgery removed remaining tube & small uterine septum.
  • Mar & April/ 09: Two LIT treatments in Mexico. LADS increased from 4 to 71%! BTW, that's really good!

Lacey--I actually found it easier getting there later...like around 730 or so. Most days I got there at that time, I was in and out in about 5 minutes or less if I was just doing blood (which is great for parking..don't have to pay anything...). U/s wasn't too bad either..but added a bit of a wait.

Just a thought :)

I had my meeting with Melody and am all set to go! Just waiting for AF now. Finished BCP last night... hoping AF comes right away so that I am not on bedrest after transfer on thanksgiving weekend. If it comes tomorrow, it will be over before thanksgiving, which is what I want!
I am looking forward to doing my first cycle with Dr. V. Hope the new protocol works!

Lacey - Very exciting! So close now! Hope AF cooperates and you don't spend Thanksgiving in bed...but turkey and pie in bed would not be so bad, huh? To answer your earlies question, I too found it easier to get there a bit later, say after 7am. Women line up in teh hall waiting ofr the door to open before and really you end up waiting longer. But it's a small window and some days it's busy and you end up in line after many women getting u\s which really pushes your wait time.

Good luck to you and all the gals cycling!

lacey – that’s great that you are getting ready to start your IVF cycle. I really hope that this cycle works for you! Hopefully the timing is good too! When you are on the BCP for an IVF cycle does your period usually come right after you stop taking the pill? I remember when I actually took the pill as a contraceptive, you would take the pill for 21 days (unless you took the "sugar" pills) and then AF would show up around CD28. When you take it for an IVF cycle do you take it for longer than 3 weeks?

I’m counting down the days until our first appointment with Dr. Virro on October 1st. I am getting anxious to get our test results (even though we have had the tests before, it will be interesting to hear Dr. Virro’s interpretation) and hear what Dr. Virro feels will be an appropriate protocol for us. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas (thoughts of Dr. V dance in my head!). Its hard to believe that almost 6 months have passed since we made the appointment, and there is just over a week left until we go for our initial consult. I called on Monday to confirm our appointment and got someone on the phone – it didn’t sound like Tina (after leaving a message to confirm our appointment three weeks ahead, per the information package, and not hearing back, I have tried a few times). I wish I was working on something a little more interesting at work to distract me. I have lots going on in the evenings all this week so that helps (got together with my Big Sisters “little” last night, and I am taking her to the movies on Saturday, and seeing her next Tuesday, have an osteopath appointment tonight, taking an “Upstairs at Lablaws” class tomorrow night on desserts with no common allergens like wheat, eggs, nuts, chocolate, taking a workshop with my psychotherapist Thursday night that I am really looking forward to). But work – ugh. And its not that I am not busy, I just am not really enjoying what I am working on. But I also feel like I need to get some of it done, because once we start cycling (hopefully soon!), I will need to let my supervisors know that I am going to have to be out of the office on a fairly regular basis over the next little while. That will be a fun e-mail to write – so not looking forward to it! It would make it better if my work is in better shape – just wish I could concentrate!

Hope everyone else is doing well!
Me: 35 DH:35
Dx: Unexplained
Started ttc September 2006
November 2007 - Initial consult at LifeQuest
January 2008 - Diagnostic testing.
February 2008 - Test results - No problems with DH. Dr. suspected I had a PCOS variant and that I probably wasn't ovulating. Suggested superovulation (injectibles) with or without IUI
Decided to forgo treatment for the time being and focus on improving my health.
March 2008 - October 2009 - LOTS of alternative therapy. You name it, I tried it!
February 2009 - confirmed via cycle monitoring I was now ovulating and my ovaries both look fine. Officially unexplained IF. Hmmm, now what?
Next Steps: Had initial consult with Dr. Virro at Markham Fertility Centre on October 1, 2009. Hysteroscopy/laproscopy performed on February 5, 2010. Post op appointment on March 8, 2010. Found out one small spot of endo removed from uterus and a very tiny septum resected.
Started BCP on March 31, 2010.
First IVF (first anything!) cycle after.
Last BCP April 20th.
Started stims: April 25 (Puregon - varied from 100iu to 42.5iu, Menopur - 75iu, and orgalutron)
ER date - May 5th.
14 retrieved, 11 mature, 7 fertilized - 4 via IVF, 3 via ICSI
3 days past retrieval - 5 8-cell embryos (3 via IVF, 2 via ICSI), 2 lagging 6-cell embryos (1 via IVF, 1 via ICSI)
ET on May 10, 5day past retrieval - tranferred 1 "superb, could sell it on e-bay" embaby - grade 5AB0! 4 more "lovely" totsicles (2 5day, 2 6day). The ivf embies did better than the icsi embies.
Beta - May 21s: BFP! Beta was 507! Still early days, but we're happy to be pg!
Viability scan - June 11. Baby right on track, heartrate of 140bpm, measuring 7weeks 1day at just over 1cm long. HOWEVER, big cyst in my right ovary. Going back for another u/s in two weeks to monitor the cyst.
U/S to monitor cyst - June 24 - cyst shrank slightly. Baby still measuring on track, 9weeks 1day and just over 2cm long, heartrate of 167bpm
12week u/s - July 12 - cyst had shrank to 2cm. Baby looked like a baby! Moving around and flailing arms and legs. Just over 5.5cm long, heartrate of 160bpm. Nuchal scan and nasal bone both looked good. Doctor's appointment went well.
20 week ultrasound and doctors appointment - baby looks good - its a girl :) Test results from IPS test show a 1 in 20,000 risk of a chromosomal abnormality. Placenta is partially covering cervix, doctor will check again at 32 weeks.
26 week doctors appointment - GD test
30 week doctors appointment - got GD test results, I passed. Baby measuring on track, good strong heartbeat :)
32 week doctors appointment - u/s to check placenta position to see if it has been pulled up from my cervix and also to check baby's size

Hi Markham Gals,

Lacey, that is awesome that you are so close to starting stims! I am right behind you. I started my BCP on Sunday and my stims should start sometime after Oct 14. They said ER would be around the week of the 25th. I am doing the same protocol as you, BCP, Menopur, Puregon, Orgalutron. With my old clinic I always did suprefact so I am both nervous and excited about how I might respond to this different protocol. I still have to make my appt with Melody.

luckypenny, I know how the waiting can kill me, so I totally relate to the anxiousness! You are almost there! I like the "thoughts of Dr. V dance in my head" line. Instead of toys, he shows up with a sack of babies! lol

me-42, DH-42, married since 1995!
Tried: Naturopath, Chinese herbs, Acupuncture, Homeopathy
4 un-medicated IUI's BFN
IVF # 1 18 eggs retrieved, 16 mature, 8 out of 16 fertilized (1/2 ICSI, half IVF), 5 made it to day 5 blast, transferred two, froze 3
first ever BFP m/c
FET #1 medicated, transferred two, started spotting 2 days later, full blown AF 5 days later (decided I don't react well to Estrace, will do natural frozen next time) BFN
FET #2 natural (but still with progesterone (crinone) support, transferred last blast from IVF #1 BFN
IVF #2 16 eggs retrieved, decided not to do ICSI this time since cycle #1 showed eggs could fertilize on their own, only 3 fertilized! None made it to blast for transfer no transfer! Disaster!
IVF #3 decided to add some repronex to the stims and do all ICSI. 18 eggs, 17 mature and 15 fertilized, 8 made it to day 5 blast. Transferred two blasts, froze 6 BFN
FET#3 added 3 HCG booster shots and doubled up on the crinone to prevent me from spotting early (as I often do), transferred 2 blasts, no spotting but a BFN anyway
FET #4- added ovidral just before my natural ovulation so they could pin point it more accurately with the 36 hour window, HCG shots again, plus double crinone BFN
January 2009 Consult with new RE in Markham - he finds a small septum, resected April 29, 09 - tells me to now try my last two frozen blasts
FET #5 - ET scheduled for June 15 (natural cycle with trigger, HCG booster and crinone) - BFN
On to Plan B- Switch clinic to Markham for
#4 Fresh IVF with IVIg, exploring immune testing - start BCP Sept 20. ER around week of Oct. 25
9 eggs retrieved, 1 immature, 1 fractured. 7 to work with. 4 out of 7 fertilized (Day 3: 1 8 cell grade 1, 2 8 cell grade 2 and 1 morula). Day 5 transferred 1 great blast and 1 morula (1 morula and 1 10 cell did not make it to freezing).
Beta Nov. 11 - BFP! (550) I am in shock!
Issues with spotting, Nov 20, second beta 11,000 and early ultrasound: saw gestational sac and yolk sac in the right place but concern about a cyst or possible ectopic near my ovary as well, 4 more ultrasounds over a 10 day period, last ultrasound on Dec. 2 'cyst' has not grown and baby measuring on target at 7wks, 1day with a heart beat of 153bpm.
Now taking Lovenox due to 2 heterozygous thrombophilias
Ultrasound on Dec. 18 (9 weeks, 5 days) baby on track, hb 167
Ultrasound on Dec. 22 due to extra heavy spotting, baby still measuring on track, hb 167 and dancing
Ultrasound on Jan. 8 (12 weeks, 5 days) baby on track, hb 160, baby doing crunches!
18 week anatomy scan scheduled for Feb. 16 - they lost my blood work for the second part of the IPS so no results for that today (they took blood again) but the 18 week scan went great, baby looked awesome and even gave us a little wave in between sucking her thumb and inspecting her toes. Yes, I said "her" - it's a little girl!
20 week ultrasound at Mt. Sinai and they agree, so far so good.
IPS results are in and they are excellent!
EDD: July 19, 2010
Baby girl arrived at 39 weeks, 2 days! July 14, 2010 3:12 am, weighing 7 pounds even.
May 2013 - The IVF Journey continues...one last try to see if a sibling is in the cards...
Did LIT, IVIg, Lovenox and low dose aspirin. 5 eggs retrieved, 1 immature, 1 fractured, 3 to work with, 2 fertilized with ICSI.
June 5, day 3 transfer of 2 8 cell grade 2 embryos.BFN
April 2014, one very last try - natural IVF with intralipids this time, 2! dominant follicles, 2 mature eggs retrieved, both fertilize with ICSI, day 3 transfer scheduled for April 13, transferred 1 8-cell grade one and 1 6-cell grade one (also using Lovenox and low dose ASA) -BFN, we are really done, not sure if it is now my immune system, or old eggs now too.

Lisa - re. Dr. V showing up with a sack of babies - LOL! Love it!

Who is Melody?

Melody was great at my appt with her Friday. Really liked her!!!!

Luckypenny.... I am on the pill for 21 days and I usually get AF around the 3rd day after the last pill, so around cd25. They are figuring I will have it Friday, I think maybe tomorrow since I finished Monday. I was on it for 4 months before my septum surgery and it always came on cd25. So hopefully it's tomorrow!!!

Lisa, Melody said that Dr. V is big on the Menopur and it's nearly standard now. I hope it works for us!!! I hope not being on Suprefact this time gives me a few more eggies since I seemed to only have a few more follies in my IVF cycle than an IUI when I respond so easily to low doses. I really wanted to do IVIg but he said next cycle. Like I have an extra 8k to throw around this cycle just to do IVIg next time. Oh well. And Melody said he decided he wants to do IVF/ICSI split. So they cycle is going up another $1200. Yikes. Nearly 8k if we have anything to freeze!! Ouch!

Just curious - does Dr. V. usually include progesterone as part of his protocol post ET (or post IUI, depending on what procedure you are doing?). Does he usually prescribe vag. suppositories or injectible progesterone?

I think all clinics are standard with Progesterone in the 2ww, no matter what you did. I have been to 3 clinics, done all different things (Clomid, IUI's, etc.) and it was always Progesterone during the 2ww.

I was given Progesterone supps on Friday at Dr.V's for the 2ww after the ET. i think injections are less common and are more likely if you continue to show you have low progesterone.

ER and ET are done on the 2nd floor. You meet Dr V in his office, he reviews your file/progress/status and you then follow him out the back and down the stairs. Kind of the silent procession, which I found strange the first time. He's a man on a mission and a busy one at that, so does not say much along the way until youreah the ER/ET room next to the lab. Your hubby will go into a room across the hall to provide his sample too. He will have to ring a bell for the lab just outside their door when he is ready so they can take his sample.

I wanted to let you know I will be donating a box of Crinone (progesterone) to the clinic for anyone who does not have coverage and needs it.
me (43) & DH (48)
Our darling daughter, Charlotte, born Jan 19, 2010
Furbaby: Lily the dog

Our loooooong journey to parenthood (I keep this to remind me of all the steps along the way and hope it helps others):

  • June/05: completed home study for China adoption, but put file on hold to pursue IVF at SIRM Las Vegas. In hindsight, not our best decision.
  • Aug/05: Immune testing results: Heterozygous MTHFR, borderline APAs, high ATAs & TSH.
  • Sept/05: IVF #3 at SIRM: worst cycle ever! 7 retrieved, 6 fertilized, none to transfer due to embies arresting by day 3

  • April/06: Adoption file sent for gov't approval
  • July/06: gov't approval for adoption
  • Aug 15/06: DTC! We're Group 273! :)

  • May 23/07: Lap surgery - remaining tube drained & clipped.
  • Started Natural IVF at MFC in Aug/07 & completed 6 cycles with good embryos but all BFN. 6th NIVF in July, 2008 - transferred 8-cell embryo with IVIG: BFN
  • Oct/08: IVF with injections. 7 eggs, 6 fertilized. IVIG infusion on ER day. Two 5-day blasts transferred & 2 frozen. BFN
  • Nov/08: Additional testing thru Alan Beer Cntr for immune issues showed low LADS (blocking antibodies) & high cytokines, in addition to already known immune issues. LIT & Humira recommended treatment.
  • Feb 13/09: Surgery removed remaining tube & small uterine septum.
  • Mar & April/ 09: Two LIT treatments in Mexico. LADS increased from 4 to 71%! BTW, that's really good!
  • May - June /09 - IVF: ER May 25 - 10 eggs, 9 fertilized; IVIG; transferred 2 5-day blasts & 4 to freeze.
  • Beta test: June 11th>>> Finally a BFP at 518!!!!

On progesterone, yes it is standard in the 2ww. There are a few clinics that do PIO (progesterone in oil) shots, but given they are so painful and some women react to the oil with welts and the fact there is no proof it makes progesterone more readily available, many clinics use the supps.

Another question for you. Does DH get to come in the room with me during ER and ET? At my old clinic he was able to hold my hand for both. But I have heard of some clinics not allowing this (I wondered when you said DH goes in the other room to "make" his sample).
At my old clinic he would hold my hand during ER and then while I was resting/recovering from the drug haze afterwards he would go in and make his sample (or wait maybe he would make his sample while they hooked me up to the IV etc and then join me) anyway, it is all pretty fuzzy now - over a year since my last fresh IVF and I was pretty spacey at the time...

TTC #1: starting in Feb 2005 "unexplained" (immune issues, elevated NK cells, 2 heterozygous MTHFR and 2 heterozygous thrombophilias - Factor XIII and PAI-1 mutations)
me-42, DH-42, married since 1995!

Yes Lisa. I should have said that hubby goes to make his sample after retrieval and he can be in the room with you (although with the gurney next to the wall and the u/s equipamenet where it is, it will be difficult for him to hold you hand). There were a couple times when there quite a few retievals the same morning and they were on a tight schedule, so DH had to go during retrieval. But, that only happened a couple times. Dr. V will let your hubby know when he has to go.

Jen - I just saw your signature update. CONGRATULATIONS!!! on expecting a baby girl! So, corny, but whenever someone I know has or is having a girl I always think "your daughter's your daughter for the rest of her life, your son's your son 'til he takes him a wife". So, I know, kind of corny (and seeing it typed out I realized it sounds a bit "hickish"), but it is sort of true. There is no relationship like that between a mother and her daughter. And girls seem to be more forever bonded to their parents than boys. Anyway, I ramble. Congratulations!!!

Lacey, any sign of AF yet? I bet you must be getting anxious to get going!

Lisa

TTC #1: starting in Feb 2005 "unexplained" (immune issues, elevated NK cells, 2 heterozygous MTHFR and 2 heterozygous thrombophilias - Factor XIII and PAI-1 mutations)
me-42, DH-42, married since 1995!
