hello im 50 years old, asian, and very healthy, and have been trying to conveice for a few years now

Have recently gone to a fertility specialist, we had hormones taken which were all suprisingly great and looked hopeful for natural birth, we then tried for an hsg test to put dye in the tubes to see if they are blocked and the doc was unable to get the dye inside? we had follow up but the specialist had no idea why it didnt go in and pretty much said keep trying naturally 

 

we then went for a second opinion today and the fertility specialist said strait up theres no way it will happen without donor eggs

 

a few questions

1. is it possible to give birth at age 50 without donor eggs ?

2. is there a way to check your eggs and theyre health/strength etc?

3. why wouldnt dye go in during hsg test?

4. would a treatment of hormones such as clomid or anything helpful in this predicament? (fertility specialist today said no as its all due to age/ and old eggs )

I will try to answer your questions as best I can. I started IVF with donor eggs at 36 years of age. Ten years later, I am still child-less. I have had many failed FET's, miscarriages, a termination at 17 weeks and just recently an ectopic. SO this journey has been a whirl wind storm! It is amazing that all your tests came back positive and that there was hope given. I am by far not a fertility specialist but I understand that there is a rapid decline in egg quality after a certain age (I think 35). Having said that, with the latest technology with PGS and PGD that may help but again, nothing is full proof. If the dye test failed, I would ask for a repeat test. However, I don't know why your specialist would say that he/she didn't know the reason. I would inquire about that. Moving along to your questions:

1. is it possible to give birth at age 50 without donor eggs ? Anything is possible, many specialists will tell you what you don't want to hear-Plus I think they would recommend donor eggs, your body, your choice is my belief but that doesn't go well in the world of IVF.

2. is there a way to check your eggs and they're health/strength etc? I don't think they can test egg quality. AMH tests quantity. Although day 3 monitoring may tell them if you are a candidate for IVF.

3. why wouldnt dye go in during hsg test? I would ask for a repeat test.

(fertility specialist today said no as its all due to age/ and old eggs ) This is the answer you probably didn't want to hear. Unfortunately very few clinics would let you try with your own eggs. I fully agree with amazing grace, more than that your age is one of metrics that might impact on your chances of getting pregnant. Today, many women who are 20+ or 30+ cannot have babies cos of poor egg quality or other reasons while women who are at more advanced age might not have problems at all. I would recommend seeing your doc to discuss your chances and tests you need to have, if any. Good luck.

Really this is such a rare occurrence and most of the time if not all the time with donor eggs. Here is Canada fertility clinics have a 50 year old cut off for any intervention.

Yes. It's rare occurrence since woman unable to have a successful pregnancy sometime in their mid-40s. I think all things depends on the time of menopause.

The main issue is egg quality, which decreases after age of 36. It would be an extremely low probability for a woman in her 50s to have any normal eggs. Menstruation is not a sign of egg quality.

agree with returnable, plus the risk of aneuploudies is high. Although, nowadays some procedures available such as mesotherapy treatment to ovaries that can improve eggs quality.

Not 50 but 47. I think if you find a good clinic then your chances rise! Well, I hope at least!

I have been reading posts almost everyday but have never posted. Today is my day 1. I need claps, bells and whistles... LOL.

So I am 52, 53 this year. My desire to get pregnant did not start until I hit 50 & my periods had already stopped and I was already having hot flashes. In 2019 I found two doctors here in Canada willing to work with me. Both said the most important thing was the quality of the uterus. And both said I had no egg reserves but I knew that already. I was already heading into menopause. So I used donor egg, got two Day 5 embryos one was transferred on 23rd September. I knew within a short time that I was pregnant. My HCG was very high. By October 11th my number was 9393. I miscarried on 12th October on Canadian thanksgiving.

So yes getting pregnat at 50 is possible but getting pregnant naturally at 50 is rare. There is youtube documentary about a woman who got pregnant naturally at 50. From Australia I think.

I am sorry to know about your journey. If you want to increase your chances, you can combine IVF DE with PGS NGS. Hope this helps
