I was having this conversation with a girlfriend of mine... is there a weight restriction for ivf? She is a size 16/18 (I’d say around 220 lbs and 5’6) and her dr told her that she was fine BMI wise but that some clinics have weight restrictions. I’m a similar size and my RE hasn’t ever mentioned it to me. Is this a thing?

Every clinic and RE is allowed to use their own discretion. I do believe you are at risk of collecting fewer eggs and/or needing more meds ($$$) the greater your BMI. There is also the concern of running into difficulties with the pregnancy and it bumps up risk of birth defects a bit, as well as risk of obesity in the child. The good news is that you get alot the benefits from weight loss with the first 20lbs.
