I finally got a visit from AF today so I can start my IVF cycle tomorrow. My RE gave me the option to do an antagonist protocol so that I will finish in August as opposed to early September. I am interested to hear the experiences of those who have been on the antagonist protocol.

Thanks!

Hi there...

to be very honest...I did an antagonist cycle on my last IVF with Bravelle and Repronex with no Lupron, however, I am not 100% clear what it really meant..I just did what the RE told me to do....sorry I can't be of more help...

ps. but, it worked..whatever the concoction was... : )

I have been doing quite a bit of research on different protocols, because as most of us do, I just follow the directions of the RE. I didn't even ask what type of protocol I was doing.

Anyway this site I found and it seems to give a pretty clear description of three different protocols.

Good luck everyone!

Hi,

I am on the antagonist protocol right now. I like it better than the last one, which I think was the flare protocol. With my first protocol, I started with Lupron injections a week before my day 1, so it seemed really long, and a lot of injections. With the antagonist protocol, I started with Serophene orally on day 1 for 5 days, and daily Gonal-F injections started on day 3. From what I understand the antagonist part is the injection they will start giving towards the end to prevent the LH surge and ovulation until the follicles are mature.

Unfortunately, this protocol is not working much better for me, but that's a topic on another post...

Good luck to everyone.

I did the antagonist protocol and it went well for me. No issues, 18 eggs retrieved, 17 mature and 11 fertilized using ICSI. I was on the B/C pill for 25 days, then puregon and repronex for 11 days and during that time I took ogulatron for about 7 of those days. Ogulatron is taken in the morning and puregon/repronex in the evening. I'll be doing the same protocol again for IVF#2 this fall. The only thing that varies is the B/C pill... it can be taken for as little as 2 weeks to average 4 weeks... it's used by the clinics for scheduling patients, so not everyone is at the same time. I responded well to the drugs each time for IUI and my IVF - but each person is different. Good luck.

Hi,

I did the antognist protocol and what it consisted of was stimulation right away on day 2 of my cycle with Gonal F and repronex. Then around day 5 or 6 of stims they started me on Cetrotide which is an antognist that prevents early ovulation. There are no lupron injections or BCP to take with this protocol. I over-stimulated on it and produced crappy eggs.....so I was on the long lupron protocol for my next try at IVF.

This protocol can be used for poorer responders since there is no lupron or bcp which can sometimes over-suppress some people.

I hope that this helps and if you have any more questions, please ask.

Hi,
I did the Antagonist protocol as well. BCP for the month previous, they said to give my ovaries a break. Then I started on the maximum dose of puregon (400iu) because the doctor wanted to be aggressive due to my high FSH and low follicle count for my age. My husband also has a very low sperm count and low morphology and motility. After 5 days, they added Orgalutran to prevent ovulation and also added in Repronex at a dose of 75 iu because I was not responding well to the puregon. On day 7 of drugsI almost got cancelled because we had only 2 follicles at the right size. However, the Repronex did the trick and I ended up with 10 follicles for ER after 16 days of drugs. There were only 5 eggs which all fertilized with ICSI, a transfer of 2 embryos at day 3, one frozen at day 5. The other two didn't make it, but I just got my BFP today! I feel really lucky as this is our first IVF try. Total cost of the drugs was about $7000!!! A far cry from the estimated $2500 we had been quoted! But it is all worth it!

Good luck with your cycle!

This is what we'll be moving towards for our September cycle (I'll be 35 then, hence my visit to this side of the boards!). The long protocol with Lupron didn't work for me...I got over suppressed and my E2 never caught up with my follicles. Strange, but true.

Lupron is not my friend, apparently. Hopefully this new protocol will do the trick. Happy to see bfp's coming from it - congrats!!

IVF/ICSI #1 cancelled - IVF/ICSI #2 ER Sept 18 - 15 eggs!!! 14 mature, 10 fertilized.
ET Sept 23 - transferred two beautiful high grade blasts! 5 blast kidsicles on ice. :)
October 1 - Early beta due to spotting - 7. Low progesterone, had to switch to PIO.
October 3- PIO working. Progesterone increases from 8 to 74, and beta of 27.
October 7 -(original beta date) 151 . Low positive.
October 9 - 273. Not doubling but still 'within standards'
October 14 - 1482. 97% doubling rate! Good news!
October 20 - u/s not great. Baby measuring a week behind, no hb.
October 27 - wonky again. Measuring 6w1d and I'm 7w4d. But there's a h/b of 89.
November 3 - negative growth, but hb of 114.
November 10 - miscarriage, 9w4d

FET #1 March 2009 - BFN :(
Tried on our own April 2009 - BFN
IUI # 4 with femara May 9, 2009 - BFN
IUI # 5 with femara June 5, 2009 - BFN. Again. Gettin' kinda sick of this.

IVF #3 August/September - started stims August 22.
September 4 - ER 7 eggs, 7 mature, 3 fertilized
September 7 - ET - transferred 3 grade 2 embies, two seven cell and one 8 cell
September 21 - negative beta. Epic fail.

Apparently I make crap eggs. Taking 800mgs/day of Co-Q10 since October 2009, then will do high dose IUI sometime in June/July.

Will likely start up the blog again http://seedsininfert...il.blogspot.com when we get rolling.

Please, please, please...

I did this protcol too I produced lots and lots of eggs and I was only on 200 of puregon but I was seriously over stimultated and at great risk for OHHS. I think this is a great protocol for some people, it is easier as it is shorter. I was on the BCP for three weeks, followed by puregon and then cetrotide for about 4 days and then HCG shot. I hope it works for you!

Hi Dove,
I am at risk for OHSS as well - my E2 is ~7200 and I have 26 follies growing so far on day 9 of stims. I received the 3 g Cetrotide on July 31 which covers me until tomorrow. I will have to take the smaller daily doses until the trigger shot which hopefully will be Monday Aug 4.
