So i started actively trying for a child since last year. I have had 1 failed IUI. I have low AMH and husband has low sperm motility. I am 40 and this year i did my first IVF. It didnt work out well as i had only 4 eggs retrieved out of which 2 did not mature and one did not fertilize. I am wondering what my options are.

Hi Habidasher,

Sorry you first ivf didnt go as planned. There are options out there for you.
Did you speak to your RE about different protocols for ivf to increase number eggs and/or quality of eggs? Some people have had success with mini stims that concentrate on quality vs quantity.
I personally am now pursuing going the donor route as my egg quality was poor. I am just waiting to hear how many embryos I have. Both egg and sperm are donors.
I can not give any ideas for sperm unfortunitly as I was always going donor route.

Good luck

Hi Habidasher,

I'm sorry your first cycle didn't work out. If you do want to keep trying with your own eggs, perhaps ask about a different protocol as JIC mentioned. For me, leaving out Menopur and Orgalutran and using Lupron to suppress was like night and day in terms of results. RE thought I was 2 different people. I don't wish to supply you with false hope, as we are all different, but often the first IVF cycle is an expensive experiment where your RE can learn about your response.

Rest up!!

Thank you for all your support! I had a consultation with the fertility doctor and she factually stated that it will be hard at my age unless i go for donor eggs. And considering Canada doesnt allow sale or donation of egg I should start looking at USA or other countries. She did say I can keep trying few more IVF cycles but i should mentally also prepare myself to deal with financial costs, time and my mental health. She said the take home baby rate at my age is 3% and once I hit 43 it will come down to 1%.. . thats a lot of reality in my face.

Canada does allow egg donation, and it is certainly an option available locally. There is also an option to have oocytes shipped from the USA to your local Canadian clinic.

Egg donation is allowed in Canada. It is just like sperm donation in the sense that the donor can not get paid for donating. If you are looking for a donor they are aroubd and I have heard there is a frozen egg bank in Canads not sure what it is called though. I ended up using My Egg Bank whichbis who my clinic uses. They create the embryos in the US but my clinic here in Toronto will do the Fet

Stay positive and keep trying. I am 44 and on my 3rd IVF cycle this calendar year of 2018. Each cycle I have had 1 good embryo. Going for cycle #3 in hopes to get a few more good embryos. Good luck!
