Hi.

First time posting on a forum board.  That's how frustrated I've become.  I'm 37yo & healthy.  Had to do IVF because we need PGD due to a genetic issue by husband has.  My first FET worked but miscarried around 8-9 weeks.  Have had 2 failed transfers since then.  Took 5-6 months off and now starting up again.

The culprit seems to be my consistently thin uterine lining.  It's never gotten thicker than 5.6mm.  Tried acupuncture and that didn't help.

Has anyone had successful pregnancy with thin lining?

Anyone have any suggestions or natural ways to increase lining?

I can't bear the frustration much longer.  And I don't have $$ for surrogate.

Thanks

I've really struggled with this. I was stuck at 5mm, even during IVF when I had very high estrogen. Had to cancel a FET afterwards because I couldn't get past 5mm.

I did;

- Hysterscopy which found some adhesions they removed

- Supplements; citrulline malate/l arginine, black cohosh, vitamin e - 3 months of these supplements and I was able to hit 7mm without medication

- Tea; sounds crazy but I added red raspberry leaf tea and my next cycle saw my first ever 10mm!!!!

- Neuopogen wash - expensive but we tried it and I got another 1mm (7-8mm)

I'm in the middle of IVF and on cycle day 13 and am at 7mm. Not amazing but I was at 4mm with a bunch of fluid in my lining when we stared this cycle.

The problem with thin lining is that different things seem to work for different people. And some things work and then stop working. And I've found I have to be taking all of this stuff religiously. Took a break on a supplement and was immediately stuck at 5mm one cycle.

Search the forums for 'thin lining' as there are some great threads with a ton of information.

What worked for and as stated above may not necessarily work for you but I will share what helped me. Vaginal estrace 1.5ng. Climara patches-3 then change after five days. Vitamin B12-1200mg and exercise. I also did massage, acupuncture did not help and keeping my uterus warm by using heat pads for half an hour before bed (chinese medicine). When I was on heavy doses of estrace, my uterus would get to 6mm then shrink. This protocol always got me triple line and a lining of 9.5mm to 9.7mm

Good luck!

Controversial but natural; I have been using a heating pad on and off the last two days. My lining jumped 3mm overnight today. I know some people don't like the heating pad, especially during stims, but a few rounds at a low heat for 20 minutes was okay according to my acupuncturist. I'm definitely not hot and sweaty when I use it, doesn't seem to raise my core temp too much.

Again, it seems different things work for different people. I've seen a lot of women post that the estrogen injections work for them. I seemed to have better luck with patches over pills but I really haven't done a controlled study on myself. Just added everything in all at once.

Thanks everyone.  Sorry for the delayed response.

@returnable - on the other FETs I've done Estrace pills vaginally 2x/day along with DelEstrogen injections 0.2cc, and Progresteron in Oil 1ml.  This worked for me when I got pregnant on the first FET, but ended in miscarriage.  I did one cycle with stims but it did not work.

It looks like they will put me back on this protocol this time again but the estrace pills can be taken orally now 3x/day.  And they are thinking of trying me on a blood thinner (Lovenox) to see if that helps.  I'm considering just using baby aspirin instead as my husband previously had a very bad reaction to Lovenox when he had a surgery...and I don't know how it will interact with all the other drugs so i'm thinking baby aspirin may be a safer bet.

I'm also taking another supplement now called Ovasitol from Theralogix which is supposed to help the way your body uses insulin and thereby help have more regular periods and ovarian function.  Mine are very irregular...I go for 6-8weeks between periods.

@schlepp and amazing grace - thanks again for your suggestions.  I will definitely be incorporating this.  When I was doing accupucture, the therapist had me using the heating pad every night and I had forgotten about that.  Will try again.  Certainly can't hurt.

@schelpp - I also did a hysteroscopy and everything came back normal.  super frustrating.

So far nothing has worked for us.  First cycle, estrace oral --> estrace oral/estrace vaginal --> estradot patches/sildenafil suppositories, topped out at 6.2mm.  2nd cycle, natural FET - topped out at 5.6mm.  We've tried almost every supplement under the sun.  Castor oil packs, Vitamin E, Vit B12, raspberry leaf tea, pomegranate juice, l-arginine, heat packs, acupuncture, etc.  We just started our third attempt using delestrogen injections, praying we get a better response this time.  If not, I think our next step is to try low-dose stims or tamoxifen.

What about an endometrial scratch the cycle prior to FET? I had a hysterscopy the cycle before my FET and that may have helped. Neupogen wash might be another one to try.

I'm so sorry you guys are dealing with this. Thin lining is one of the most frustrating things to manage/resolve.

Hi Schlepp, our RE did mention an ERA test as an option which I believe also functions as an endometrial scratch.  However, he suggested we wait until we find a protocol we actually want to transfer with before going ahead with it.

Let us know how you guys do on this protocol. I just did my ERA and they needed a 7 mm lining for me to get there. I made a big jump in lining thickness when they added on the patch.

Hi guys :)
Returnable, Can I ask you how was your lining before ptches and on which protocol?

I also have a stubborn thin lining stuck at 5.8mm
I only tried Estrace (vaginal and oral) and now theyre adding Viagra (which I believe wont help a lot goven my blood flow is fine)

Anyways, next cycle Ill ask for patches or injections intead of pills and Im searching for some people who had an improvement with one of those :)

I did better with patches. I only got to 5mm with just estrace. Switched to patches and estrace and got to 7mm. I also did a ton of supplements etc but I do think I responded a lot better to patches.

Thanks so much for your answer :)
Did you have your transfer recently?

Next cycle I will ask for patches :) They keep putting me on the Estrace pills (2 cycles in a row) and after only a week of Estrace I had 5.8 (1st cycle) and 5.7 (2nd cycle) and then... it doesnt increase 🙄

Thanks for giving me hope! I really needed this today!

I think I went I'm on a Monday to have my lining checked and was measuring at 5.0 mm and then 4 or 5 days later I was at 6 something after starting the patches on Monday. See my about me I think it is in there though I can't access from mobile site.

Pomme - Each person responds differently.  On our first medicated FET, my wife was put on oral estrace for 1st week and got to 5.6.  They added vaginal estrace and vaginal sildenafil 2nd week and she got to 6.2.  They switched to estrogen patches for 3rd week but her lining actually decreased to 4.9 and there was fluid buildup so we cancelled the cycle.

Our 2nd FET was natural FET and got to 4.85 so we cancelled.

Our current FET we tried estradiol injection, on CD12  our first lining check showed 6.5.  We are going in for another check on Tuesday.  Hopefully we can get to 7, but as long as it doesn't regress we are likely going to attempt our first transfer *fingers crossed*

Returnable- Thanks a lot for your answer :) It gives me hope!
Cant belive Im fighting that hard for 1mm!!!
I respond very quickly to Estrace the first week .. I get to 5.8 right away but them even if we increase the dose I stay at 5.8.
They just add Viagra for this week but I am not convinced!
My blood flow was good according to the Doppler test but who knows if it can help without trying it :)

I think Patches or Deloestrogen might be the tricks if Estrace alone doesnt get me to the magical 7 🙄

Hopefuldadsomeday- I totally understand... Same thing happen to me ! When they keep adding oestrogen I have a tiny bit of fluid but two out of three doctors told me that sometimes when they start PIO the fluid resolve by itself ! Not if its a huge amount of fluid of course but just a small amount isnt a big concern according to them :)

Also I will ask for Deloestrogen if patches doesnt work :) Will try the patch before because its available in Canada so easier to get and if it doesnt work will drive to the US to get the injections:)

Does your wife have the triple stipe pattern in her uterus?
I wish you all the luck possible for the transfer!!!
Please keep us posted but Im SURE you will be a dad someday:)
You are almost there!!!! And thats not A MILLIMETER that will prevent you from being the best father ever!

We clearly all react differently but Im sure theres a way to get that freakin 7mm!!! I cant just be stuck with almost a 6mm... I already gave up on my eggs so theres NO WAY Im also giving up on my uterus hihi
Thanks a lot for your input !

Pomme - any update?  Did the sildenafil work?

As for us, looks like estradiol injections were the solution, lining check measured between 7.5 and 8mm!!!!  So we are attempting a first FET tentatively on Monday!  Pomme - FYI, a compounding pharmacy can make the injections, you don't need to go the USA for it.

To summarize our history

IVF #1: 6.66mm

IVF #2: 6.73mm

IVF #3: 9.51mm (anomaly?)

FET#1 (medicated) : 6.25mm

FET #2 (natural) : 4.85mm

Hopefuldadsomeday- I CANT BELIEVE IT!!!!
This is such an amazing day!!!!
I will think about you two on Monday and Im sure youll be a daddy and will be able to celebrate Fathers day this month !

I will have my US on Friday ... Crossing my fingers that sildenafil will be my miracle drug but to be honest I really think the drug that might do the trick will be Patches or Injections ☺ Your wife did a little better than me as I only got to 5.8mm but I have faith that patches or injections will do the trick 😊
If you have your transfer Monday, when will you take the test? 😍 Will you keep us updated?
