Hi all,

I'm just trying to get a sense of what to expect. I did a 5 day transfer March 2, got a positive HPT March 7. My first 2 betas, March 11 and march 13 were 204 and 388, which the clinic was very happy with.

On March 19 I was diagnosed with a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) and put on bloodthinners. That day (which would have been 17 dpt) my beta was 5536.

3 days later, on March 22, my beta was 7835. I freaked out, assumed the worst, etc etc because it hadn't doubled. When I called the clinic, they told me that after about 5000-6000 the beta slows down and isn't always reliable. The nurse sounded perfectly optimistic that everything would be okay, even though it only went up 40% in about 72 hours. Online some people seem to say that bloodthinners can also skew your hcg results, but I can't find any actual scientific proof, just people saying they've "heard" this.

I go for my first ultrasound in 2 days, which would be 6w3d. Just wondering if any of you can shed any light on this. I asked in a FB forum and everyone was like it's fine, no problem... but it just seems super weird to me. I want to prepare myself.

Thanks <3

Beta usually slows down and stops doubling sometime in the 5th-6th week.

Me: 40 41 42 43 44 45, single, FSH 6, LH 2 (FSH not high, but exceeded 2:1 ratio), DOR (AFC 5-7, v.low AMH), all else normal/healthy.

After a difficult 6 year journey of everything going wrong, amazing baby boy born Dec 2018.  Donor sperm + DEB-USA donor eggs.  Detailed journey in 'about me'.

Right now Us is your best bet. After about five weeks betas are not as indicative as they do indeed slow down!

Good luck and hoping things go well for you!

See about me page.

I thought I would just add my results since it might help someone in the future.

When I went for my U/S yesterday, the doc saw a strong heartbeat, and all was well with our little bean... BUT there was another sac too! Kind of weird because we only transferred one! Anyways, the working theory is that the reason My betas slowed so much and my symptoms became a bit less is because the second one stopped growing.

*However* my RE confirmed that betas after 6000 aren't very helpful.
