Long1984, Best of luck with your test. I think it is good to know as much as you can.

KandS12, Good luck with your NIPT. A very stressful situation for sure. Share if you are comfortable. Lots of support and thoughts being sent your way!

Hi all... my NIPT came back inconclusive. So I can repeat or go see a maternal fetal medicine doctor. So scared and nervous.

Long1984 - your test probably came back inconclusive because they didn't have an adequate fetal fraction of your baby's blood. Did the nurse or doctor clarify why your test came back inconclusive? How many weeks were you when you had your blood drawn?

I have to see a MFM specialist as well because I've developed hyperthyroidism with this pregnancy (never had problems with my thyroid before). I hope all goes well.

Aidensmom... it was not having enough DNA from baby. They took the test at 10w2d.

Hmm, I wonder why they would send you to see a maternal and fetal specialist then. I would just re-take the test since you're further along now and should have a higher fetal fraction. Not having enough DNA to perform the test is a very common problem. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but I know that it sucks to have to start all over again.

Aidensmom... the doctor gave me a choice to repeat or go to see the fetal maternal doctor, I chose to see the doctor versus repeating the test. I think I was a little nervous that repeating the test would have the same outcome.

Hi ladies, I have not logged in for a while. First I hope all are doing well, hopefully if you have been struggling with MS hopefully it's almost done. And congrats to those ladies who have found out their gender already!

As for me, I'm 12w4d today, my last sono with the fertility specialist is on Wednesday 😕. She is releasing me and my twins to my OB, which I have already made the appointment March 1st. I took the NIPT test 3 weeks ago it took about a week and a half to get the results here in the US. Results: Low risk for chromosomal abnormalities, and found out the gender of both my babies. BOY AND A GIRL! So thankful, and now I can shop! But on the downside I have been sick, it's about every day, usually in the morning when I'm about to leave for work, and sometimes in the evening around dinner time. It sucks! I can't even be in my kitchen! Really hoping it's almost done. Last sono the babies were pretty active, baby B especially. I feel like it's been too long since my last sono, I can't wait to see them Wed and make sure they are still growing and healthy. They sure are making their presence known with the sickness and my starting to show.

When is everyone else being released from their specialist? Anyone else showing yet?

MarissaF! congratulations.... a boy and a girl! One of each.... so much fun! shop shop shop! Sorry to hear about MS. My sister in law couldn't stand to do grocery shopping in her pregnancy. It is tough.

I was released from my specialist at 10 weeks. Today I meet with our OB and have another ultrasound (12wks1day). I am very excited to see baby again.

Marissa - Congrats, how exciting!!!

I was released from my specialist at 7 weeks and have been seeing my OB since then. I'm 15 weeks and showing, but it can pass as extra fluff under a loose blouse. It's very noticeable at night for some reason. Are you showing yet? I'm sure you'll start showing alot sooner carrying twins.

AKO - good luck today!

Hi Ladies,

Thank you all for the supportive thoughts. We saw the specialists at McMaster on Friday and they went over the test results with us. I had an elevated free beta hcg level which can be an indication of Downs Syndrome. All other levels including the NT scan were normal so the risk of the baby being born with Downs Syndrome is 1 in 140. While the likelihood of my baby being chromosomally normal is really high, I still cant help but worry.
Hopefully my NIPT results will be in by the end of the week and I will know one way or the other. The wait is killing me! Ive also been feeling really disconnected from the pregnancy for the past week which I also attribute to the waiting.

Im 13 weeks and 5 days now. Still experiencing bouts of MS, particularly in the evenings and Im definitely starting to show. Im currently holding my pants together with an elastic band!! Lol

I was released from my clinic at 10 weeks and havent yet heard whether or not I got into the OB I requested. Im not sure what happens if the OB I requested isnt accepting new patients since my RE did the referral. Im assuming he would have referred me to someone else. More waiting I guess!

KandS12,

You are having a really long wait. It is very tough. I remember (pre nipt technology) my brother and his wife were pregnant and had their first trimester screening... there was a bump on their baby's head. Doctors told them it was a sign of Downs. I can't imagine how they worried. Or how you are worrying now. The NIPT will tell you conclusively. I hope the results are in quickly. My niece was born without issue and is a happy, healthy 8 year old now. I wish you all of the best. Feeling disconnected is normal. You are not sure what to expect and also not sure if there is painful news ahead. And you are probably exhausted. And you have some MS. How can you not feel weary! Hopefully the nipt news will be good and will bring you some relief and trust in the pregnancy.

I felt the same way with my first pregnancy. We knew something was wrong and I didn't know how to embrace it. For us, things worked out and our first was fine. But there were weeks where we didn't think we would have a child. Distancing myself gave me a bit of respite from the stressful situation. Thank goodness for the nipt. I think I cried and cried when we had the good results.

I met my high risk OB yesterday and had my first trimester screening ultrasound. My OB seems great and I am comfortable with him. And my blood pressure is looking great too. So hopefully no HELLP this time. Baby looked great but was bouncing all over the place and then turned his/her back on us and went to sleep. Would not cooperate and be measured. So... am going back next week to see if they can get the measurements. I imagine I will just get an nipt if next week's ultrasound is a repeat of this week. I think the technician tried for 1/2 hr to get the measurements yesterday. I saw a very nice looking spine though. lol.

I am getting some light MS three times a day now on schedule. If I manage to eat something no matter how yucky I feel, it seems to go away for a while. So I have raw almonds and tea when I get up early in the morning, a 4PM snack and an 8PM snack (usually oatmeal). It seems to stop the reflux/heartburn. I have also taken to chewing sugar free gum... so classy! I mainly need to in the evening when heartburn starts getting very uncomfortable. And it works. Not sure why sugar free. A doctor told me last pregnancy and it worked.

AidensMom yep I'm showing I'm to the point where hair bands are almost not wide enough anymore. I have belly bands, they help but tend to be uncomfortable by the end of the day.

Today was my Last specialist appointment, babies were healthy, each just under 3 inches. And heartbeats perfect. Both were moving and baby A had hiccups.

KandS12, I hope your NIPT results come back with good results, I'll be thinking of you.

AKO I know exactly how you feel trying to snack on a schedule because of morning sickness. I go through the same thing. It never fails for me I get sick in the morning, I'm so tired of it. I now plan for MS and don't even put on my makeup until after I brush my teeth. can't wait till this is gone!

Hi Ladies,

Good news!  The genetics counsellor called me yesterday afternoon and my NIPT results came back low risk!  Such a HUGE relief.  Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts.  I feel like I can finally be excited about this pregnancy now.  I elected to not find out the sex of the baby so we have a lot to look forward to for the next 6 months!

AKO, glad to hear that things are looking good and your blood pressure is right where it's supposed to be.  I imagine it would be pretty nerve wracking after the difficulties you had with your last pregnancy.  Sorry to hear that baby wasn't cooperating for the u/s - at least you get to have another one and see the babe again soon!

MarissaF - that's great news that babies are looking good and healthy.  It's such a reassuring feeling to see them up on there on that screen!

Canadamommy2 - the ultrasound tech I had did print me out a picture, but she didn't make any attempt to get a good one.  It's super blurry and hard to make out what you're looking at.  So disappointing!

To all those ladies still experiencing morning sickness - hang in there, hopefully it will start to fade sooner rather than later.  It's such an awful feeling.

Hi all... so I had my NIPT and it came back inconcusive, so I had the ultrasound done and it came back fine. I also found out Im having a BOY!!! But due to giving birth to my daughter less than a year ago, I am still slightly over-weight, so they had me do the gluecose test early. I failed!!!! It was supposed to be under 130 and came back at 133. So today I sit and do 3 hour test. Fasting came back at 92 out of 95. Still havent heard second test after drinking icky liquid. In about 15 minutes, I take the 3rd blood test and hoping that it comes back fine. Im going to say a little prayer that things come back fine.

Long1984, Wow you are having an eventful early pregnancy. Yay boy! Interesting they did the test early. Good idea. You are very close to the cutoff range. Hope your 3 hr test goes well. If not, although it is a pain to adjust to the gestational diabetes diet, it works very quickly for most people. I was borderline with my first being such a 'geriatric' mom, I went to the information session and adjusted my diet. By the first check up that they did my numbers were all great. And stayed great. Really all I had to do was switch when I ate certain foods. I had a previously heavy carb breakfast ... changed that and all good. It is worthwhile as you can end up with a overly large baby from gestational diabetes and that could mean a c-section and other complications. Having had an emergency c-section for other reasons... painful! and the recovery is 6 weeks. I am pushing for a vaginal birth this time. I can't imagine being home with a baby and a toddler post c-section. Anyway, best of luck with the test today. So glad your ultrasound came back normal. Yay for you! It is weird the NIPTs are coming back inconclusive. I had thought they were more accurate than the ultrasounds.

Hi Ladies, So result of my NT AND NIPT are out. No down dyndrome whatsoever. Chance is like 1 in 10,000. Thats good news. Bad news was, there was no sex result on thr NIPT. I called Dynacare and they said my Dr forgot to check mark the sex reveal part. I was so upset. I told her so many time that this is why we are doing it. Gosh ;-( plus she doesnt even let me see my OB until like im 30 weeks along and my anatomy scan is like 21 week ;-( ;-( im kinda fed up with my family dr ;-( I wish I could change our Dr but out small town doesnt have much dr and most of then dont take new patients anymore ;-( sigh... anyway venting is done. Hows everyone doing? Hope all the NT scan and everg little beans are doing well ;-)

I still have pretty bad morning sickness. I still throw up everyday. Little one is doing well (i guess) heard a strong heart beat yesterday. ;-)

Canadamommy2: Great news re screening. Wow. They should rerun or redo the test for you for free for not having gender data. I wonder if you could push for it? Sloppy on their part. I am mad for you! Yes, Parry Sound is a beautiful place but small to have lots of docs.

I had my second first trimester screening ultrasound yesterday. Again baby turned his/her back and refused to turn around for neck measurements. And again they tried for almost an hr! So.... had blood work this morning for first trimester screening. Not sure if that will give me any guarantees. I think if not I will quickly do an NIPT too. Was trying to avoid the cost. Was fun to see baby though.

Anyone else have heartburn and heavy exhaustion?

No so bad news for me. My NT SCAN came back not so good. Baby has Cystic hygroma on her neck. Oh we found out its a girl!!!! ;-) my GP is finally releasing me to OB to find out more. Some cases itll go away on its own but some not. My NIPT came back all low risk though (1/10,000%) so waiting to hear back from OB. Probably amino test next and maybe fetal acho or nooona test. Idk.

Canadamommy2 I am so sorry you are under so much stress. I hope she is ok. How lovely... a girl. Excellent that your NIPT is low risk! I am so sorry you are so sad and that this is all so hard. Remember that this baby survived being a FET ... a good strong healthy embryo. She is a fighter. Please reach out and keep us posted. I am thinking of you.

CanadaMommy2
Congratulations on a baby girl! Im so sorry to hear about your NT results. Your NIPT results are great though - so thats really good news and hopefully means that the cystic hygroma will resolve on its own. The waiting is so so hard. I hope you get some answers soon. Please keep us posted. Sending lots of strong, healthy thoughts your way.
